These books are fantastic. I've been reading them for years, trying to complete the adventure. I've completed most of the maps. It's alway better to follow a map for future readings. I enjoy making the maps. My favourite books are Creature of Havoc and House of Hell, among others. Some are so hard to complete. A map is essential.
I agree the mapping is a lot of fun and they are hard to complete. I just picked up Armies of Death for my collection. The book is in amazing shape for the price I paid. I have not played House of Hell yet maybe I will run that soon.
Deathtrap Dungeon is probably one of the best gamebooks ever. It absolutely accepts the format and its limitations, even using them to its own advantage. Brilliant concept, no complex or silly plot, straightforward idea of 'beat the dungeon'. Livingstone's best.
If I remember rightly, Trial of Champions was rge follow up to Deathtrap Dungeon. Both were good fun to read, but mapping was always a nightmare though. 😁
@@solitaryrpg looking forward to seeing that. Also I have no idea how I managed to mangle spelling "the" so badly. I'll keep it as is though as it made me chuckle at myself.

I agree it is the best and really showcases how great adventure books can be.
It kind of reminds me of a Four Against Darkness adventure.
It has that feel but with only one character. Simple rules and stats fun to play.

Yes mapping is a the hardest part of the Fighting Fantasy books. I might run Throm through Trail of Champions next for fun.

Call of Cthulu also have published adventures that model the game book format.
