I heard this once and then read Hugh Kennedy’s Great Arab Conquests. Then came back to listen to this again. The role of Amr (r) in the conquest of Egypt is extremely vital . And his qualities Sheikh Omar described in part 1 as a negotiator , commander and above all his cunningness played such an integral role in one of his history’s greatest achievements. 1,000 years of Greek (Romans still used Greek in Egypt) rule - all gone in 2 years by a small group of 4,000 Yemeni soldiers and never to return. Alexandria at the time rivalled Rome and Carthage as the peak of urban civilisation. It was beyond anything the Arabs ever saw, even in Damascus and Gaza. And it had the option of reinforcements via sea from Constantinople and yet it fell to Amr and once and forever sealed the fate of a 1,000 year old legacy. And Umar(r) was afraid of the Muslims being influenced by the Hellenic influence of the city. That and the frontier strategic reason the Sheikh mentioned lead to the rise of Cairo. If ever it was the Dunya that attracted the Muslims, they would have chosen Alexandria - the second most luxurious land on the planet after Rome. There’s so much wisdom in each of these decisions. May Allah gather us all in his Jannathul Firdaus with these companions of Rasul(s) and the Mercy of the worlds himself. Aameen.
Really wonder how long Dr Suleiman spent on crafting each session for years. The structure and the links that he draws across different perspectives look impossible to me, he must have a gigantic memory. May Allah Bless Dr. Omar Suleiman and give him a place along with the companions of our prophet (sav) in Jannah.

Incredible. Absolutely incredible. May Allah grant this great Sahaba highest of jannah ameen The doubts he had on his death bed talking to his son was so emotional after he achieved so much for the ummah! May Allah bring unity to the Muslim ummah and be a force in this world as they use to be ameen. The way Omar suleiman really tells these stories captures your mind and soul and creates this beautiful imagery as you are listening. 125 episodes later..I still wait for each episode with anticipation. Love these stories but wish Omar Suleiman would stop calling Allah God. He Subhana wa T'ala is our Ilah (our God and the only God worthy of worship) but His name is Allah not God. May He be Exalted and praised.
