I completely agree. He's very underrated. I think Brian summed it up perfectly. He said "John didn't write many songs but most of the ones he did were hits".
Sorry but I completely disagree about the "never a virtuoso" part. If you have or had listened to Queen's entire discography you would not be making such a statement. Have you seen John Deacon play live? Go check out some live performances. Give a listen to the Millionaire Waltz, Dragon Attack, Ogre Battle, Liar, Bring Back that Leeroy Brown amongst so many others where you can hear the unparalleled talent, musicality and virtuosity of this man. He is a tranquil force that doesn't like to show off but I bet you anything he can play better and faster solos than Geddy Lee on the bass. He just doesn't like to show off. You have to understand that Rush is more bass driven than guitar. Their sound relies more on bass and they are fantastic musicians but they are still quite pale compared to the musicianship and genius of Queen. Queen play even better live than they do in the studio, it's a fact that they are the best live band of all time and all of them are gifted virtuoso musicians. Neil Peart might be faster than Taylor but Taylor's precision and fluidity as well as his versatility and flair make him a better drummer in my opinion. He is the perfect band drummer who can play super fast and super slow and always be metronome precise and locked with John while singing high notes.Just because John doesn't like to do bass solos or licks like Geddy Lee doesn't mean John is not capable of doing so. Just search rock and roll medley Queen and watch the man's fingers make fire on those strings. John Deacon is a genius, a musical genius and a virtuoso bassist. The man has a 1st class degree in electronics, is a hall of fame songwriter and has a brain way too advanced for Geddy Lee to even comprehend. He's a genius just like the rest of Queen, the smartest and greatest band of all time.
I'm here after watching Bohemian Rhapsody. This song is absolute perfection. Great lyrics and melodies. I remember as a kid back in the 80s, telling my mother how awesome I thought Freddie's voice was, but she just couldn't hear it. This is an absolute masterpiece, and I have no doubt that we'll still be listening to it 30 years down the line. Absolutely incredible. The part where Freddie sings “it’s strange, but it’s true” and those synths kick in, it’s goosebump city for me. Not to take anything away from the other amazing musicians in the band (who are all amazing in their own right and made a hugely strong band together), but hell, Freddie was the bomb before we even knew what that meant. Freddie needed the band, and the band needed Freddie. If aliens ever visit our planet, I hope they hear Queen first, before writing us off as an inferior species.

Yeah we all know that Freddie is a legend but what about everyone else? Everyone is so awesome that they need some love too! Brian’s guitar is insane, Roger drumming is the best I’ve ever heard, and Johns bass is incredible

Any sociology or psychology class will tell you that this desire is not uncommon among men. We women can easily wear jeans and a t-shirt, pantsuit at work, etc. Not socially acceptable for many men to do the reverse. Not surprising the other guys were excited to do this! I watched an interview with the director and Roger on arte (French-German tv channel) and they said they laughed for three days straight while filming it. The director said his ribs hurt after the shoot.
They said essentially it was a satire of a British soap opera family, but in the U.S. we didn't know the show at all. Roger did make a cute girl at that time.

Damn, these comments are from the past 1-2 weeks. I'm just sitting here watching some new fans show up. Been a Queen fan all my life, welcome to the family, people. Freddie lived his life beautifully. No regrets. He still lived to this day. After the movie, I believed in magic once again!

"Bohemian Rhapsody" was the beginning of how Queen rock me.
I was born after Freddie s death on same year, I heard first song 'i want to break free' once somewhere. And left. Though I'm listening music since 2008 Indian, Bangla, Marathi, English. Since My soul was searching for real music from past 3-4 months and when I heard him my search came to end. No other person had ever made music like these 4 people have made. They born, gathered at place and created super hit music. I'm so proud that Freddie is from India.
My mother (may she RIP) used to clean the house singing and dancing to this awesome tune. I always loved when I was a young kid how she used to mimic Freddie in this video lol, it was so funny and it's a memory of life that will always remain for me and the rest of my family. This is why I love Queens music and all good music, because it captures awesome memories of the past that are gone but are NEVER forgotten. Good music is the soundtrack of all our lives. Beautiful.

Dude, Roger Taylor is actually beyond amazing. Just nobody's been paying attention all these years to how bloody brilliant the ENTIRETY of Queen really is. Even Deacy was actually really godamn gifted outside of just his amazing bass licks. Not only was he a really gifted songwriter (all four of them were individually inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame) but he created the "Deacy Amp" that May used for years and years to produce some of the most unique sounds in the world, and the Deacy amp was *so unique and intricate* that Deacon & May gave permission to a group to try to recreate them *and it took them TWELVE YEARS and TAKING APART THE ORIGINAL DEACY AMP* to be able to do it! Oh, and in case you're not aware, Brian May's Red Special, the guitar he's played for over 50 years now? Yeah, he built that out of bits lying around his house with his dad. There's even a damn book about it, because that's how unique the guitar is and what a marvel it is. Oh, and he's DOCTOR Brian May, Astrophysicist and worked on the project for us to get pictures out from Pluto. So there's that, too. Like, even if you don't go super in-depth with all of them, just reading each of the guys' Wikipedia pages is a great time and really shows just how truly remarkable these guys were. Queen wasn't a success because of Freddie. It was a success because of Freddie, Brian, John, & Roger. Period. They wouldn't have become "Queen" without any of those four, and I truly believe that, even as I worship Freddie Mercury as a damned God because I'm a lyricist & vocalist and he's the greatest vocalist to ever live.

It enrages me when the movie version is played and the instrumental from 2:11 through 3:12 minutes in the song is shortened or cut out.... particularly from 2:40 on thru the end of the instrumental. For those of you who don't know, Freddie actually had very little input in the idea for this video. The song was written by the bass player, John Deacon. The idea for the video was pitched by the drummer, Roger Taylor. Of course Freddie agreed and thought it was hilarious, but so many people tend to make the assumption that this was all Freddie's doing just because he likes men.

I was born after Freddie s death on same year, I heard first song 'i want to break free' once somewhere. And left. Though I'm listening music since 2008 Indian, Bangla, Marathi, English. Since My soul was searching for real music from past 3-4 months and when I heard him my search came to end. No other person had ever made music like these 4 people have made. They born, gathered at place and created super hit music. I'm so proud that Freddie is from India.
My mother (may she RIP) used to clean the house singing and dancing to this awesome tune. I always loved when I was a young kid how she used to mimic Freddie in this video lol, it was so funny and it's a memory of life that will always remain for me and the rest of my family. This is why I love Queens music and all good music, because it captures awesome memories of the past that are gone but are NEVER forgotten. Good music is the soundtrack of all our lives. Beautiful.

After watching bohemian rhapsody now I know how to appreciate Rogers.
Dude, Roger Taylor is actually beyond amazing. Just nobody's been paying attention all these years to how bloody brilliant the ENTIRETY of Queen really is.
Even Deacy was actually really godamn gifted outside of just his amazing bass licks. Not only was he a really gifted songwriter (all four of them were individually inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame) but he created the "Deacy Amp" that May used for years and years to produce some of the most unique sounds in the world, and the Deacy amp was *so unique and intricate* that Deacon & May gave permission to a group to try to recreate them *and it took them TWELVE YEARS and TAKING APART THE ORIGINAL DEACY AMP* to be able to do it!
Oh, and in case you're not aware, Brian May's Red Special, the guitar he's played for over 50 years now? Yeah, he built that out of bits lying around his house with his dad. There's even a damn book about it, because that's how unique the guitar is and what a marvel it is. Oh, and he's DOCTOR Brian May, Astrophysicist and worked on the project for us to get pictures out from Pluto. So there's that, too.
Like, even if you don't go super in-depth with all of them, just reading each of the guys' Wikipedia pages is a great time and really shows just how truly remarkable these guys were. Queen wasn't a success because of Freddie. It was a success because of Freddie, Brian, John, & Roger. Period. They wouldn't have become "Queen" without any of those four, and I truly believe that, even as I worship Freddie Mercury as a damned God because I'm a lyricist & vocalist and he's the greatest vocalist to ever live.

This is one of my absolute favorite songs in life. It enrages me when the movie version is played and the instrumental from 2:11 through 3:12 minutes in the song is shortened or cut out.... particularly from 2:40 on thru the end of the instrumental. For those of you who don't know, Freddie actually had very little input in the idea for this video. The song was written by the bass player, John Deacon. The idea for the video was pitched by the drummer, Roger Taylor. Of course Freddie agreed and thought it was hilarious, but so many people tend to make the assumption that this was all Freddie's doing just because he likes men.
