As a German, I am so freaking PROUD of her! I remember seeing her on German TV when she was still a kid and she became the youngest trans person in the world at that time, because her case was so crystal clear and urgent. The SOPHIE tribute really got me in my feels 😭 her death was so tragic and premature. She was an immense talent and music visionary, i got to see her live the year before and her set was simply transcendent. She was so special and beautiful and full of life. What an immense loss.

Yeah if this is the Grammy’s token nod to trans women that would be really sad. Hopefully she continues forward. I personally think she will, her Halloween albums were incredible and flew way under the radar so hopefully with the spotlight on her she can put out some quality music that gets the attention it deserves.

I'm a trans man who only had the courage to come out in his 30s, after growing up without any real representation or understanding of who I was and why I felt so wrong in my skin. I didn't know before she won that Kim is trans, like me, but I'm so glad that she's out there and being open about who she is, and sharing her joy with us. Representation matters. Trans joy matters.
That extends to Sam, as well, of course. Nonbinary folks are valid and Sam is such a great inspiration.

The term "trans" is a term that's been around since the 1930s at least, and there have been many contemporary terms before that point for trans people throughout history. Learning new things can be overwhelming, especially if it's not something that you relate to personally. But just because it's new to you doesn't mean it's new to everyone else.
I'm not sure if you wrote this comment with any ill intent, so I don't want to come at you hard in response. But I do encourage you to take some time to actually sit down and do some reading and learn about the transgender people in your community. We are people just like you, and probably a lot more boring than you'd probably imagine. We're more than our labels; labels are just a way of us relating with ourselves and the world around us. Folks are mad about one particular performance at the Grammys last night. They say it was “evil” or “satanic” or whatever else.
Sam Smith’s song is called “Unholy” and they created a piece of performance art around that theme. They weren’t saying we should all be satanists.
Know what is evil? Kids being murdered in schools, families living in poverty, increases in racist attacks, the destruction of God’s creation, invasions and wars, and a million other things that have nothing to do with a song.
If Sam Smith upsets you more than all those other things sicken you, it may be time to sit with those feelings and ask “Why?”
When I baptize someone the liturgy has me ask them if they “reject satan and all his works”. I hope Christians understand that means confronting true evil in this world, and not artistic expression.
