I saw this show live as a freshman at USF in 2003. It was my first time even hearing of Shinedown and they went on to become my favorite band of all time. I've seen them dozens of times since then and they rocked them all. Brent is a legend!
I remember seeing this live. Man, i wish they would go back to this. Alot has changed over the last 20 yrs.
My God this is absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately we'll never see a set like this ever again
That first song “crying out” is the best I’ve ever heard Brent. Ever.
You mean getting sober ?
@@LukeVanderwyst You should.
@@GiBsOnX92 I live original Shinedown I wish they didn’t change so much met all the original members at the exchange in Brunswick Ohio got all their autographs on a us and them poster pretty sick
@@LukeVanderwyst Pretty cool
Top ten GOAT band of all times hands down!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’d give anything to go back to these days and the 90s When life was normal and had good music
Always the jam. Brent was and still very thankful for being in front of the crowd 🎤 🎶 singing his heart to the people. The drummer and singer are the original in what we know Shinedown today. Thank you for having your dream and giving us some great music!
Part true and don’t forget we miss the old Brent if he can bring that one back one more time
I still miss 2003 This is one of the resions
Me and my brother were at this show in Tampa. He grabbed one of the drumsticks that got thrown out at the end. He gave it to me and Lana from 98 Rock took me backstage to meet the band. They ended up autographing the stick for me. They were so humble with their talent and so happy to meet a fan. It's a great memory I will always have. 🤙👍
I was lucky enough to see them on this tour. How amazing
This is the best Shinedown album handsdown
For me it’s Us and them but also Leave a whisper and The sound of madness are awesome.
Fly From the Inside takes me back to high school….. #Nostalgia
5:07 Jesus Christ!!! That's some pipes🔥🔥🔥
I loved this lineup 💯❣️
this is honestly THE shinedown. they havent been the same since this era.
@@incubrian Agreed 💯🤘
Ehh I prefer the new lineup
I love this Shinedown
I saw this tour in a small club. So fn good! They have lost their way with the new line up
I remember seeing this tour in ATL that year. Still have my hoodie from their first tour
When I first heard "Fly from the Inside" on the radio in early spring of 2003, I thought, wow, this band is amazing! I can't wait to hear their first album. It was a long wait, but in July 2003, I did, and it was a fantastic album, start to finish. Little did I realize it would easily remain their best, but it would be extremely difficult to top. I just wish they still made songs like the ones they did on "Leave on Whisper," rather than kind of the generic concert rock they make now.
I like this version of Shinedown much better than the newer stuff
I agree
I prefer new shinedown
His voice was definitely in better shape here
This is real shinedown
@thezombros2607 new shinedown is wussy music
Thanks for sharing! As much as I dig their newer stuff, I wish they'd play more stuff off the debut nowadays instead of just the cover of Simple Man.
When I saw them in April they also played 45 and Fly From The Inside
@@chrisfromswts they now don't play Fly. It's really disappointing...
@@sparkhunterblurred6924 Yeah I saw them a few weeks ago with Papa Roach (who puts on one hell of a show), and they also didn't play it
@@chrisfromswts they stopped playing it after last Earthday Birthday. Only played it twice after that (in Orlando and in some Europe city, can't remember sorry). Zach once told me they just got tired of it
@@chrisfromswts and btw Papa Roach fucking rocks 🤘
i miss this band so much raw talent and grit shinedown is not the same without jason todd
How am I only just seeing this now 😳
That is the first time I have ever heard them play Lacerated live. Thank you for posting this, your the man.
I wish they would play it more
Lacerated was played live like up to 10 times. They stopped playing it after Us & Them was released. It's still rare for us to see this performance and it's extended outro. I miss this Shinedown...a f***in lot.
It's cuz brent doesn't like singing that song. He really don't like the song
@@markcourtney1088 One of my fav. songs from Leave a Whisper.
Played in Camden nj at bb&t great song and killed it as we no they developed a lot since this .
Yeah i saw them on this tour with Soil at the house of blues in nola. Did a line of coke with brent too
old shiendown aaaa!!!
My how far they have come!!!!
Knew they were going to be huge in 2003. My parents called me crazy lol
I miss the old days when thy where like this but what else are you going to do at list brent is trying to go back to his old self just like this we and me miss the 70 thourgh 2003
Shine down gave no fucks when they first came around. Now they’ve been watered down by record label.
And people grow and have different tastes as a musician taste changes and wanted to play different things as that's a part of life opinions and taste changes
Nah they just changed they’re sound which imo sounds better than law and us and them
Also everyone including Brent were addicted to drugs back then. He is so high in this video. The band is sober now.
@@maryhelenbuchele7342 yeah he was def high on coke the way he was climbing on shit and bouncing around
Good to see Brent has always been the hype man.
Thank you so much for uploading this. It brought back so many great memories. This was back when I fell in love with Shinedown! So real! So raw! So much energy! 🤘🏼🤬🤘🏼
Great Show! i was looking for some Shinedown's shows when they were starting. please upload more of their old stuff if you have.
alltough it seams like every day is still 2003 but you know
This is awesome, back before Brent used backing tracks
I mean he damaged his vocal chords unfortunately
He uses them so he doesn't destroy his vocal cords. They tour over 300 days a year. No one's vocal cords can keep up with that. His voice is still very powerful & has range but he learned to sing differently when he got off drugs.
fuck me brent smith is the best rock vocalist in the last 20 years. Such a BEAST!
19 years
Wow!!! So raw!!!
Better than new band. These guys still had the fire at this time. Fookin sellouts. Jasin deserves to be in that band, hell brad too
Old shinedown is too boring for me
Jasin Todd wouldn't get clean so he had to leave the band. When Brent got clean he didn't get along with Jasin anymore. Brad left because he didn't want to go the direction Brent wanted to take the band musically.
Looks like they are opening for Static X according to the backline behind them. Didnt watch the whole video so dont know if they annouced that they are
Hard to believe how much better Brent sounds here than he did to years later. I'm so proud of him for taking care of himself and restoring his voice before he ruined it forever!
You try singing like a 25 year old when you're 42.
@@elizabethsullivan7176 alot of people can if they dont blow out their voice but unfortunately Brent did so had to look after it for a while but its sounding amazing again now
@@yeahme8367 I don't think he ruined his voice he had to learn to sing differently after he was sober. People said his voice was horse & raw back when he sang like this. He did have nodules on his cords but he didn't have surgery they healed naturally. He also did have vocal lessons after he got sober.
Do you have one from 2005 or 2006? I've yet to see a show from then.
Almost lost his pants a few times. That in itself would be worth the price of admission. 💖💖
Nothing against Brad and Jasin, but I much prefer the band with Eric and Zach.
Brent acknowledges that Kurt Cobain was a big influence on him, but here he makes me think of Eddie Vedder
Me too I prefer the current lineup
If anyone could tell the guitar effects used on crying out
Sounds like some sort of phaser or chorus
This is back when brent moved around alot on stage
wow..
27:09 Their fathers would be proud
How did I manage to miss that… and how did this not get taken down because of that?!?
@@haydenkunes9046 😂 My best guess is you must have looked away when it happened or got distracted and didn't see it. Hard to miss otherwise. As far as it not getting taken down. Probably not reported? If it did get reported it may just get age restricted. I've seen some pretty explicit stuff on TH-cam. It's just restricted content.
Doubt it
No Burning Bright on the setlist...Wow
All i ever wanted and Lost in the Crowd are off the list too
Funny enough, I saw Shinedown open for Powerman 5K in June 2003. I met the band before the show and asked Brent if they were gonna play "Burning Bright", and he laughed and told Jasin I wanted to hear Burning Bright. Brent said they had to tailor the setlist towards the crowd for the headlining band (Aka heavier stuff). Beautiful song, though!
@@liamsweeney972 do you remember what songs they played that day? and in what city was the performance?
@@unrealslimshady4430 June 24 at Webster Theater in Hartford, CT. I have a signed ticket stub, but I don't think I have a setlist from that show. They did an acoustic set in the lounge area (Fly, 45, and Lost in the Crowd - before Simple Man came out) - Electric show started with No More Love, Fly, In Memory, Better Version and Ended with Crying out. A few months later I saw them open for 3DD in a much larger venue and that's when they had the 03-05 setlist that we are more familiar with from the Fly From the Inside DVD. Amazing band at that time.
@@liamsweeney972 yeah, Leave a Whisper is an amazing and inspirational album. love the Attention Attention though, but wish they played more of old songs
Also one question to shinedown where in the heck did nick wild ever go is he ok or doing something different now and day
This is the very Shinedown.
Indeed.
When shine down was good 👍🤘🍺
They made more $ by going pop/rock... but man... that guitarist and drummer was so much better imo!
Energético bom demais
Was, and will never be again , sad
To this day he acts this way on stage
I miss the real shinedown
Ehh I think here they’re good for what they’re were old shinedown is not my style
@@thezombros2607 you mean a rock band and not a pop band?
@carramrod8232 I said I miss the old shinedown. Clearly they were 100% rock here. Pretty much anything after the SOM and firing jasin they became pop rock
@@BamaRockstar85 that response wasn’t to you…
What part of Ybor City was this?
I know he has aged, but his more recent performances lack that drive to his voice. Maybe he had damaged his voice? I’m in far from a big fan, hopefully someone may know.
Yeah I think he damaged his voice somewhere between 2010 and 2011 he’s still great now though just different
No I don't think he damaged his voice just learned to sing different. He won't sing like he did they tour too much he would have destroyed his voice if he sang like that night after night. He can sing like that when he wants to. He also is sober wasn't back then I'm sure that also makes a difference.
I did forget he did have nodes on his vocal cords but healed them without surgery. He sounds amazing now & has power.
🤘🤘🤘

Oh dear me!
Came for Shinedown, stayed for the flashers. Lol jk.
Damn Brent had some angst back then lmao
Original band was much better songwriters. New stuff very contrived
That is the point of their music now. To tell Brent’s story about his addictions and how he overcame them. All the songs have great stories and sound amazing!
###08/31/2023-From the looks and sounds of things, I feel Brent has a lot to say about 911 ( the one in 2001), the twin towers, and the Eiffel tower being the ultimate speed trap---Brent is as anti government, anti establishment, and most important of all, anti religion as it gets and his message is an urgent matter, the reason Brent retired from Shinedown, to be replaced by an imposter in early 2004-2007, as Brent was silenced by the powers that be and was also the reason behind his suicide attempt in 2003, in which the media reported Brent's official death too early, as he recovered in April 2004. The media has since removed the news file shortly after the reported coverup of Layne Staley's death being considered an occult CIA operation, as in an identity change ,due to constant and persistent religious persecution by the powers that be, religious affiliations, and the general population for his views on Satan's crucifixion---##
Never heard that one
Give this guy his vocal cords!(((
Igor Sullivan never knew he could really sing this well. I figured they just over processed him since his voice is shot nowadays. I’ve never actually found proof of him being able to sing Second Chance well. He uses a lot of prerecorded stuff.
Ethan Kmetz he actually went through a process to heal vocal nodes during sound of madness that carried over into the Amaryllis tour. During that time he used some backing track but I saw them last May on the Attention Attention tour and they didn’t. he sang everything including second chance well with no backing track at all but did have to modify the end of 45 which is understandable taking his age into account.
@@DaRealNobody420 have you seen the Smith and Myers stuff? His voice sounds so good. When they do Shinedown songs i know ita acoustuc but he still sings the hell out of them and sounds just like the recording sometimes. So whatever he did it worked very well.
@@heidibaltom8138 Smith and Myers is great. With the exception of songs on Leave a Whisper and Us and Them (which are exceptionally hard to sing) he can still sing pretty much anything he’s ever put out, he’s absolutely my favorite vocalist hands down. He’s one of the most passionate singers I’ve ever heard just listen to the acoustic version of 45 from back then nobody could touch him imo bad form or not. Even now after losing a lot of power and range from past damage he sounds fantastic. He reminds me of Eddie Vedder or Bon Jovi cause like them he may not be able to do the god tier vocals he once did but he still sounds amazing. What’s even crazier to me is how hard this guy works instead of getting a surgery and doing only afew shows a year to heal his voice like Adele this guy did it completely naturally while performing year round which for as much as hes recovered is absolutely astonishing.
@@DaRealNobody420 i completely agree. Im pretty new to these guys only the past year or so but ive watched alot of videos and he has to be one of my favorite vocalists of any genre. Like you said he works hard and has grafterd for where he is now. I could have him sing me to sleep every night lol
Saw them at rupp arena in 2003 they opened for three doors down . I didn't know who they were but they stole the show
This video is the shit!!!!!!
Ah the good old days before the Attention Attention crap

I didn't know them back then but I love all there music. If they just did the same music I think people would have got bored. They change it up every time & I think it is awesome. It shows how talented they are. They are getting very popular & that is great!!
