The relay dance was superb- they always add little details and tweak the choreo for the relay dances, but it's ALWAYS so smooth and cohesive. XG are very dangerous ladies 💯

Are you talking about the harmonies during Jurin and Harvey's part on the second verse that goes, "ah ah ah ah"? That's actually Rachel West, the songwriter of this song and GRL GVNG. She also sang the parts in the chorus, the last words on those lines. If you look at the credits on this song, Rachels name is mentioned.
But if you're talking about the 2nd chorus after Jurin and Harvey's ad-libs. Then yes, that was Maya. I wanna hear more of them sing to be honest. I love the cover they did of Stand Up.
@@MarkCalica No. I know who sings which adlibs, and the part where he kept asking "who is doing the adlibs" and rewinding to try and figure it out, and even mentioned it again in the dance practice was where Maya was doing the adlibs behind Juria.

There is indeed a lot of symbolism going on in this music video. All kudos to @exScythed who put this together first to my knowledge.
- First, take note that our girls start all separated and alone. They were lowered into Buddhist Hell by the thread of a spider (the starting scene with Chisa represents this). The figures you see in the very beginning are wearing traditional Buddhist headdresses. They are surrounded by spirits who are caught in a cycle of reincarnation that never ends. (In Buddhism the “spider’s thread” is a reference to how Buddha took the thread of a spider in Heaven and lowered it down to Hell so that a criminal can climb up from Hell to Paradise. Therefore the thread of a spider is a symbol of slight hope aka a silver lining and of fragility. In the story it’s stated that the thread descended through “many layers of sky and clouds.”)
- The XG girls look on sadly as many spirits attempt to reach Paradise and fail, exploding into nothingness (Chisa looking down from her perch represents this.)
- Even though the XG girls are hailed as goddesses by the other spirits (represented by the way the other spirits bow to them) they realize they still can’t reach Paradise alone aka achieve enlightenment.
- This changes when the XG girls find each other in death, realizing that their meeting was fate in order for them to reach Paradise together (they are tied together by the “red string of fate” and “hesonoo” is Japanese for umbilical chord.) This is represented four times in the video and twice in the chorus of the song; When Juria is running to help a spirit and meets Hinata there’s a close up of her eye where we see her having a vision of an explosion, when Harvey (who has black teeth which in Japan is a common practice amongst women because it represents a “woman with virtues”) meets Jurin, when the XG girls rap/dance together as a group with the drums, and when a wayward spirit’s failure to achieve enlightenment causes an explosion which knocks everyone down leaving only XG standing strong. There’s also a ton of fourth wall breaks showing that they’ve broken away from the circle the spirits are stuck walking in. They know the Truth aka achieved enlightenment and know you’re watching basically. Also, it is only in the later two choruses the girls adlib together. The first chorus, when they haven’t met in the video yet, has none.
- Before XG goes, they bless one of the spirits who is heavily implied to be pregnant with a girl (the moon is associated with womanhood ... please don't ask how a spirit in hell gets pregnant) and has earned the right to be reincarnated.
- The XG girls take a literal leap of faith together and successfully reach Paradise, symbolized by their new, white outfits.
The music video is tied to XG’s themes of female empowerment-women have two “x” chromosomes, the girls are “extraordinary,” they have the “x-factor,”they represent a better future for women which is connected to the idea that the next generation of children (children birthed by women who have “new DNA”) are the future hence the futurism stuff. I hope this helps anyone!
On point analysis and commentary as usual, and I agree with the other comments about XG emerging as amongst the most talented 4th Gen gg. Please check out their Studio Choon version of Puppet Show and their recent headlining Billboard SXSW New Dance performance where Harvey threw in a Michael Jackson homage dance move at the end which was flawless. The talent is mind-blowing with no weak link and glad to see Hinata, Maya, Cocona getting some center time also and Cocona’s vocals on display here and in New Dance and GG.

XG and New Jeans will spend the better part of this decade slugging it out for global girl group supremacy. Putting my own preferences aside, both groups just have IT.

✅ A company and creative team that’s firing on all cylinders

I agree! I think that their are other contenders for sure bc girl groups are definitely dominating the game right now In the 4th gen but XG / NEWJEANS / LESSERAFIM have proven to be heavy hitters globally for sure

Harvey is the unsung hero of XG; her dancing rapping and singing are just so solid it's unbelievable. And the choreo is by Kyle Tutin; once you know, you can't help but notice the Tutin-isms in there!!

That background harmonies is done by Rachel West. The songwriter for this song and GRL GVNG. She got credited as one of the backing vocalists. She was only doing the ad-libs on the chorus parts where they sing the last words.
22:11 As for the background ad-libs with Juria, that's Maya. The chorus part earlier with Jurin was with Harvey. Their voices really matches with each other members. You can't go wrong

The adlibs during the final chorus were Chisa’s during the first half and Juria last. They ate more than usual as a group in this song. I agree this is the perfect example of their identity as a group

What puzzles me the most about XG is how they don’t want to be called a k-pop group and fans will also ignore the pop sound they have in some of there songs. New Dance and Shooting are clearly pop songs and very K-poppy at that to. This song is more rap focused making it a little weaker then they usually release but very solid concept overall. I swear k-pop fans can be so weird sometimes.
It’s cause a lot of ppl don’t consider them K-pop cause they’re Japanese and sing in English and Koreans are pissed they won’t consider themselves K-pop becaus they promote in Korea (they’re also annoyed they don’t have Korean songs). So everyone is labelling them what they want. I think that’s the main reason they went with x-pop. Personally I think they’re all the pops K-pop, jpop just pop with rnb and hiphop elements, so xpop works.
