  • Limited space can make composting seem daunting or impossible yet there’s a way one can compost in a small space and that’s with a bokashi soil factory. Once your food scraps have fermented in your bokashi system you can make a soil factory with it. That soil can then be used in houseplant mix and in the garden 😊🪴. Thank you so much for watching and don’t forget to like comment subscribe and share :)!!

This is a great video! I also live in an urban setting, and don’t have any garden. This morning I was thinking and saying “this is enough it’s about time I sort my shot out and start composting !” 😂 so the video just gave me all the tools I needed✨ thank you !

I made the mistake of not putting enough coverage soil on top of my factory. As long as you don’t let it get too wet, and cover it well your scraps will get absorbed quickly. I keep mine indoors covered with a towel and smell has not been an issue

Where do you recommend buying bokashi? Also its funny how avocado pits crumble after being fermented but the peels stay strong even after a long time! Haha

I’ll link their insta but I love using garden of oz! They use spent beer grains which I think is amazing and a great way to repurpose waste! :) and yes for real tho!!!!! I’m like damn these peels strong as fuck 😂😂😂😂

Damit. I just toss a bucket of bokashi in the box and cover it with soil without mixing them up. And im wondering why they didnt break down and smells like sewage

Thanks so much for this video! Where did you find the bins you use for your soil factories? I’ve previously used plastic bins with lids, but they always succumb to the weather and crack. Thinking I need something more heavy duty.

When you add the soil does it have to be dry I assume and not moist soil?

Hi!!! Sorry that I liked it and am just now responding, I got distracted! 😭 no slightly moist or moist soil is fine!!!! Prob not soggy soil. But if it’s moist or slightly wet then you’re good :)

I've known about Bokashi for some years now, have made my own bran a few times. The other day, I was talking to a friend of mine that used to raise chickens, and he told me about how he used to ferment the wheat that was part of their feed ration. I realized that his process in making that fermented wheat was so, so similar to the process of making bokashi bran, and that its probably the exact same microbes at work.

Probably so! It’s so interesting how these everyday things blend so seamlessly in certain areas of life. It just shows how the everyday things around us can be used to make potent potions and recipes to feed plants animals and humans alike!

For years, I have been trying to revamp my apartment composting methods, and I love this video. However, I need to learn more about how to create a soil factory. Thank you.
