Elden Ring's list of characters has over a dozen entries that are simply named "Someone Yet Unseen". Presumably they had several NPCs planned that didn't make the final cut, and some of these faces may have belonged to them, but this could also point towards the many character's we're likely to meet in the DLC, and some of them may end up using these faces or some iteration of them too.
Or just a bunch of placeholder faces made so there was a stock available to be slotted in as needed. That's what I would do in this situation. Well that and spend hours horsing around with the builder tools just to see what I can get it to spit out.
It’s wild to think there is story written that isn’t used but hinted at, it makes me think there could be another DLC to just use up the last of the written story
Makes me wish that NPCs with helmets took them off even if only once and for a short time, like Lucatiel did. I wanna see the face that I'm talking to dammit.
Zullie, this is a big ask, but could you do a comprehensive video covering the interesting changes made by the day and night cycle? I think most people know about the unique bosses at night but there even are different enemy placements which still surprises me. I wonder if they were going to use the twins as another instance of a male/female being, but abandoned that idea later, maybe leaving the big reveal for Marika/Radagon be more impactful and unique
I mean... the twins are still regarded two people with one soul. It's in their armor description. In fact, the suggestion that they "never speak, nor stand together" implies they aren't even blood relatives, but were connected by this shared soul, and feel the other's existence without ever having crossed paths. This would explain why Radagon is a human champion descended from the Fire Giants, while Marika is an Empyrean from Numen, outside the Lands Between. They could cooperate at a distance, but weren't truly united until fracturing into one, sometime after Radagon was crowned King Consort. D and his brother were rejected by all orders as abominations except the Golden Order-after all, its godhead is a similar "abomination."

It completely screwed her over in the long run, so getting literally screwed for a bit must have been really worth it.
2:46 Radagon's eyes aren't ever shown... exactly. But in the Radagon icon and in his portrait at the Roundtable Hold, his eyes (or at least his right eye, as he's only shown in profile) are pitch black. Even in the final battle, his gold left eye is really just shards of the Elden Ring arranged to resemble an iris. (Funnily enough, even the manga depicts him with black eyes.) By contrast, Godfrey's portrait shows him with gold eyes, from before he was exiled with the Tarnished. I feel they must have been very careful in how they chose to depict Radagon.
Just something I was thinking abt, could Mesmer be the one who stabbed Marika? The Elden beast was damaged where she was stabbed, so it couldn’t be the greater will. Also, the spear was red and it seems too perfect that Mesmer was hiding in plain sight the whole time.
I'm really glad to see you bring these videos out showcasing the hard work the devs put into the game that we wouldn't know about otherwise. It also makes for some great speculation!
The npc’s with the golden facial scars made me also immediately think of ichor (the Japanese gold repairing technique you mentioned also popped in there too), the blood of the gods in the old Greek pantheon (Hera and Zeus and all that), as it’s supposed to be golden in color. I know that thematically that would be out of left field but the thing of godliness and golden blood is why I thought of it.
As you mention at the end, it's wonderful that we're able to see all these faces that someone sculpted but never made it in game. While this kind of work isn't it necessarily wasted without being seen by the audience, it's nice to acknowledge behind the curtain work.
Lovely video. I especially liked one of Tanith's supposed drafts - at 2:28. I kindly wanted to ask how to access these files myself, so I can figure out the sliders of it. Thanks in advance!
Love the kintsugi style one! I’m still baffled that with all the themes of shattering, mending, and gold, that Kintsugi has no thematic mentions in the game!
I wouldn't be suprised if many of these are placeholders for cut and/or future content. It's well known that developers will often work on large portions of the game and then cut it off due to time constraints or some other set backs only to finalize and release it later as a DLC. Just look at what happened with Destiny. Almost all of the DLC in the original game was accessable from release but was blocked off in one way or another. That didn't stop basically everyone from checkin it out though lol
It's always been interesting to me how much of this kind of stuff sticks around in the files when there's no legitimate way to access it. One of my favorite examples was how in Hollow Knight there was one sad little detail that was deliberately put in, in dream nail dialog for an enemy that's immune to the dream nail.
Am I the only one who'd like to spend a whole night with each of those character presented ? Their faces carry so much history and charisma in itself. I want to get to know them all...
Please do a video on Dark Souls 2’s map design. It’s the most confusing map in any souls game and has always been an enigma to me. Would be really interested to see a breakdown
I'd guess that many of these unused designs were used for testing purposes whether it's to see how creative some of the devs could get or how the faces would look within the game under different lighting conditions and cutscenes and so on. Though I can't help but think some people on the dev team made some truly hilarious faces and showing them off to the others and possibly even using them for testing purposes as well.

Even in the final battle, his gold left eye is really just shards of the Elden Ring arranged to resemble an iris. (Funnily enough, even the manga depicts him with black eyes.)
By contrast, Godfrey's portrait shows him with gold eyes, from before he was exiled with the Tarnished. I feel they must have been very careful in how they chose to depict Radagon.
Is it possible for you too post the slider values, so people can make them in game? Or is it already somewhere?
I want you to know that along with your beautifully simple and short videos, that I love your choice of OSTs! (Especially any Twilight Princess ones)
For a land with so much light the npcs sure do avoid the sun. Pasty hall of fame.
Just something I was thinking abt, could Mesmer be the one who stabbed Marika? The Elden beast was damaged where she was stabbed, so it couldn’t be the greater will. Also, the spear was red and it seems too perfect that Mesmer was hiding in plain sight the whole time.
The dragonborn with the gold scars is so cool I'm just going to make a new faith build around that
I'm really glad to see you bring these videos out showcasing the hard work the devs put into the game that we wouldn't know about otherwise. It also makes for some great speculation!
1:00- EURON GREYJOY SPOTTED 🦑🦑🦑🦑
7:16 Please tell me im not the only one to see this face and think: _"Bah Gawd, It's the Undertaker!"_
Thank you.
I've never seen a sponsor ad that is entirely text based dialog.
You make very good videos.
3:11 wow it's my Bloodborne character
1980s Tetsuo Sakurai?!
damn, Imma need that Mads Mickleson sliders
2:28 NAAAH the one on the right is Brandon Rogers xd
4:57 Maybe this was possibly what Ranni's original face was going to be revealed as.
It lowkey makes me happy to see you getting sponsors on your videos. Get that bag!
Gerudo town night track is my vibe ❤
5:45 That really updated my journal
It is nice to see their hard work. Thank you, Zullie.
I love these videos. They make me think, they have Zelda music which I absolutely adore. And they are about Elden Ring and other Souls games.
DS Map Studio
I really missed your videos Zullie, sending all my love to you 🫶🏼
You do amazing work Zullie. Thanks for this. Hope youre doing well!
Love the kintsugi style one! I’m still baffled that with all the themes of shattering, mending, and gold, that Kintsugi has no thematic mentions in the game!
Thanks zullie! What another fascinating video!
It's kind of crazy that they go through all the effort of making unique faces for characters whose faces you're never going to see.
3:05 - Brian David Gilbert is that you??
Another reason im looking forward to the DLC is finding out how tall the shadow Erdtree is in comparison to the regular one
It's always been interesting to me how much of this kind of stuff sticks around in the files when there's no legitimate way to access it.
One of my favorite examples was how in Hollow Knight there was one sad little detail that was deliberately put in, in dream nail dialog for an enemy that's immune to the dream nail.
subtitles-only ads are the only ads I will ever watch
Some of these are really nice. I wish there was a way for players to easily access them and use them for their characters
Zullie was sponsored by the game that has consumed my life for the last 8 years.. This is truly amazing!
The ad feels out of place but I'm not complaining, glad you can make some extra with your content!
Am I the only one who'd like to spend a whole night with each of those character presented ?
Their faces carry so much history and charisma in itself.
I want to get to know them all...
7:45 Looking back, this could easily be an early version of Leda
That last face in the 10000 range looks like he’s gonna tell you ITS A SLIGHT FUCKING ACCENT
Don't suppose we'll ever get a list of sliders for these faces or anything?
happy you got sponsored! congrats. love your videos
Would really like the sliders for some of these😢
Great vid as usual, its interesting to see what NPCs we couldve seen in game.
I recently realized that the black wolf mask seems to have some yellow in it's only open eye. Might wanna look at it Zullie!
This face makes me think of the old albinurac albus who gives you half a medallion 2:16
6:35 Hi Jschlatt
2:16 looks like a rough draft of gideon with a beard
"Wow, datamining sure is fun, but we must know everything by now."
Zullie - "Hey guys here's a speculation video on data that's only barely even left over, compiled from several other instances of incredible work and educated theorizing I and others have done. Also I'm going to acknowledge appreciation for the people who did this stuff we'd never get to see normally."
When I say Zullie is a pillar of the community and one of the best parts about these games? This is one of the things I mean.
07:18 THEEEEE UNDEEEEEEERTAKEEEEEEEEEER
You come for the content, I come for the music
It's almost certainly just a pipe dream, but imagine if in like 10 years we get Elden Ring: Reforged, a remastered version of the game that restores all of the cut content and NPCs?
i'm not surprised to hear that miyazaki had instructed designers to make characters look like real people, several of the faces in this and other videos do look like famous actors (sellen is a dead ringer for kristen wiig)
3:07 Can't believe they added Brian David Gilbert into Elden Ring.
Crazy to see how you’ve grown and progressed over time. Would be interesting to see you make your own game with everything you’ve learned.
