@@iamasmile1 Yes and no - first was the AVUS in Berlin, which served as a race track. And the road from Cologne to Bonn was kind of a pilot project, lacked things modern freeways have.
A massive structure built during the Nazi era was turned into luxury apartments through careful renovation. These buildings are often too big or expensive to tear down, so developers see an opportunity to reuse them. By redesigning the interiors with modern features and luxury touches, they turn the space into high-end homes while keeping some of the historical character.
Seems like people have too much time on their hands. Nothing of any real significance happened there. But if we "want to remember" Why are we picking just WWII? Other things happened before that, that we aren't as "wanting to protect." Depending on how far back in history you want to go.

Ye olde Line is due for an upgrade. Although my personal and political values say demolished it, my head says that it's probably good to preserve and renovate it for future generations so they can see what authoritarianism looks like in reality like a European version of a DPRK "culture" tour... Although renovating it exclusively for the wealthy will somewhat remove this possibility from the equation which isn't a good thing. Perhaps part should be kept for access for the 99% of us who would or could never afford to live or visit there now...
That's not really the case. The overnight stays there are not cheap, but you don't have to be truly rich. The prices in the cafes and restaurants are completely normal.

"Luxury flats" - the most European term possible
So many listed buildings disappear coz the restrictions are too tight, only a reliable stream of income can save a building forever. We need to be realistic instead of dreaming stupid dreams. In my town i see roman and prussian walls crumble for a lack of money and this historian is crying coz it doesnt work her way.
Don't see the issue. Germans use the Autobahns daily, don't they? And whose idea were those?
Not Hitler's idea. ;) The first Autobahn in Germany was planned from 1904 and completed in 1921.
@@iamasmile1 Yes and no - first was the AVUS in Berlin, which served as a race track. And the road from Cologne to Bonn was kind of a pilot project, lacked things modern freeways have.
For everyone who believes, fascists can build aesthetic architecture:
Yeah.
You said it best. The area benefits from the tax revenue as well.
@@wayneak54 I think you just responded to an AI comment. They're getting pretty convincing xD
@@GeoMeridiumit reeks of gpt lol
@@GeoMeridium You might be AI. How do we know ?
We at the Solitaire a few years ago, fascinating place.
How do they manage to create this?
An early version of "The Line".
Reusing is a good thing…..there does need to be a sign and / or room remembering its history
Hello, thank you for great video. 😊
Nice documentary.
I think it’s fine to make luxury flats. There are so many things already dedicated to the honoring the fallen
I only know about the Prora due to my many hours playing Civilization V
I take it the people who aren't happy with this, don't use the autobahns?
Rebar must be rusted through by now with it being an early example of reinforced concrete. 😂
Will the inhabitants only be allowed to wear Hugo Boss and drive BMWs?
It'd be one thing to give a new use to it..... but luxury flats? For fuck sake man
We have serious apartment shortage all over Germany... More luxury flats is just stupid.
@blackfoxstudioX Yes, the workers from the island's non-existent factories need affordable housing. It's a holiday destination not a suburb.
Most of the apartments there are not really luxury. It's certainly of a higher standard, but nothing extraordinary.
Seems like people have too much time on their hands. Nothing of any real significance happened there. But if we "want to remember" Why are we picking just WWII? Other things happened before that, that we aren't as "wanting to protect." Depending on how far back in history you want to go.
The Olympics stadium in Berlin is an incredible peice of architecture
Greatly presented
"Strength through joy" heard this one before.. very recently.. *cough cough*
Oh really? Where’s that?
@@srpacific a bunch of losers yelled it up until a while ago when the Orange boi won Murica
Last time roughly ten years ago. There is relatively sizeable dune/hill made out of ash. Only time that I have seen and hear so vivid manifest of death souls or what were they. Pine threes are dwardfed over the hill. Small wall and some barbwire. One of the sandy paths was partly hollow and secrect steel door at the top, I think there might of been unknown submarine bay. Luxury will not work, as beach is public to locals, that fast majority are alkoholics, from kids to grandmas
I've lived there all my life. Didn't know until now that I am surrounded by alcoholics...
if we cant look past this building perhaps most of germany should just stop being used i guess
Not a word about job creation. And the narrator's dramatic bias was a little much. But informative, yes.
Yeah, in real life it's pretty chilled in Prora.
I don't see any issue, redevelop it into something useful.
Some people are only happy when they're offended and miserable.
From "for the people" to "for the rich"
That's not really the case. The overnight stays there are not cheap, but you don't have to be truly rich. The prices in the cafes and restaurants are completely normal.
who would want to swim in the disgusting baltic sea anyway?
Geez, talk about a complicated situation.
I am pretty sure concrete walls have no political opinion.
No, but humans attach value to everything, and by proxy concrete walls acquire symbolic meaning based on who built them and why.
Not everyone is happy, I guess we can assume who the people complaining are!
How fitting really
Scraping the bottom of the barrel here won't go into to much detail but Stalin built about 40,000 of these types of building inside the soviet union but you pick the German holiday camp old news next you'll amaze us with nazi ships for cruising
The buildings had no effect on ww2, they were just built during a ruge time to say the least. They are in no way to blame if u ask me, and I am jewish!!!
so, it IS because of its past...
