In this case the customer is on the right track about one point (the little tape recorder did need a new belt). Another simple, economic repair and cleanup with a pleasing result. A win-win situation for you and your customer. :o)
Cleaned the heads..?? These models were "somewhat" easier to service than the dictophones.... Either way, another great job, we look at the edited version and it looks so easy, but we know it's much more than what we see....👌👍
Just an update to my first comment, I think the smaller belt drives the counter, but from the service manual I found on Sony's website, it looks like a complicated, fiddly replacement involving more disassembly.
I've always tried to take really good care of my microcassettes and my sony m-455... But I've noticed the motor starting to stall when fast-forwarding. I guess that means its time for a new belt soon?
Hello, loved your video. I just got one of these the other day. Cleaned it and everything is working, but it doesn’t record my voice. How can I correct this please? Thanks
Unpopular opinion here: if you know the Sony M-417/M-427, well... I would swap their REC buttons with the one on the M-527v/M-529v since I like red REC buttons more than black ones that came by default with the M-529v like the one you repaired.
Hi Steve, Another great video. I had a question on the deoxit you used. A freind who repairs antique car radios mentioned that some of the electroic cleaners damaged the potentiometers on older radios, and when you mentioned using the Fader deoxit for carbon based potentiometers I figured you might have come to the same conclusion.. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. I hope all is well on your end.

I have this same recorder but the roller at the top doesn't turn and none of the tape winders spin. I put new batteries in and you can hear it running but nothing turns. Is that something you could fix for me? What would you charge?

Hey! Thanks for this video. I was able to disassemble my M-529V and identify the same problem (belt was disintegrating) so I cleaned it out and replaced the belt which seems to turn smoothly when I turn it by hand. However when I put everything back together and press play or any of the transport functions nothing moves still. Even if I give the pinch roller a nudge it doesn't seem to be moving at all. Any thoughts on other things I could try?
I purchased a DeckTech brand belt kit for my Sony M-529V. It came with 2 belts, a large one and a much smaller one. I'm totally confused now. Where on earth does the smaller one go ? I watched your video and another on youtube and there is no mention of the 2nd, smaller belt. Any ideas ?
This was great! I like that slide chart. I'd need to find one of those. New sub here.
Loved the ending! Very creative!
Nice little repair to wake up to in the morning :) Hope your days go well everyone!
took one of these apart the other day to try and put new belt on. when I realized had to de-solder I gave up
Excellent video

Hi, may i ask where you bought that replacement belt ? I tried using a random one I had but the sound is distorted..

Great fix =D
Where do you get belts? Seems like it should be a cheap part but all I can find is like $5/belt.

How do you fix the issue if it was the pinch roller or the piece that moves the tape around and around?

He mentioned that in a previous video, that's exactly why he uses two different de-oxits, I never knew that until Steve mentioned it..!!
@@frankpitochelli6786 Thanks. Good thing to know.

That's totally enough room to replace the belt lol. I do it all the time
I lied, I just tried and couldn't do it. Gonna have to desolder

PRICE?
Of the whole unit, or the cost of repair. I charged this customer a discounted rate (because of the units value) of $30 total.

hi, did you ever find out what was the smaller belt for?
In the Sony M-529V model, the smallest belt would most likely be for the tape counter.
