Im not trying to be hyperbolic, but this song is literally timeless and one of the greatest musical pieces ever orchestrated. The theme, the plot, the beat. Everything is literally perfect. It’s a song that will stand the test of time. It transcends the genre of rap and almost takes the form of a Shakespearean tragedy.
Dax , Joyner Lucas and Tom Macdonald are giving it a go but you can't improve on perfection. If you haven't heard it tho, listen to Burden's True Story. Only song of his I like but I cried. Let me know what you think if you try it?
Em said about 'Stan' that anyone who lives & breathes for someone else is taking it too far... It was Dido's song 'Thank you' from 1999 that Em sampled... Dido was the girlfriend in the video😁 She performed w/ Eminem... and 'Thank you' became a hit in America in 2001 after 'Stan'... so Dido got a big payday 🤑 In the 2001 Grammy Awards, Eminem performed 'Stan' live w/ Elton John singing Dido's vocals.
Lesson #1 from this song: Never be a Stan! Lesson #2 from this song: If you are going to be a Stan, make sure you get that stuff I did with Rukus! And don’t forget Skam neither!
Eminem created the word/phrase “Stan” And Eminem fanbase is called “Stans” obviously we aren’t like this but it’s folks out there like this which is wild also this songs a masterpiece! Eminem Is The Goat you’ll see why as you progress through this Eminem journey...🙇🏽♂️🐐✨💯(Please React to Eminem “Bad Guy” the sequel to Stan it’s about Matthew Mitchell Stan’s little brother seeking revenge on Marshall aka Eminem)
The issue that I have with some Eminem fans is that they don’t even listen to rap. They just listen to Em. A lot of them don’t respect, appreciate or know anything about hip hop. So it’s really irritating to hear some of them call him the best ever. Eminem is definitely top three ever for me and was one of the first rappers I liked as a kid, but I’ve met so many Eminem fans who fit that description I just gave.
The Oxford English Dictionary now includes a definition of stan, 'an overzealous or obsessive fan, esp. of a particular celebrity. ' The dictionary's entry page notes that this sense of stan has its origins in the 2000 song 'Stan', by US rapper Eminem
Stan is a dude with borderline personality disorder; which is what “emotionally crazy” is usually linked to. Extreme attachment issues, Love to hate in a short period, Suicidal tendencies, extremely Sensitive to rejection, paranoia, identity confusion, empathy issues, and severe emotions I have BPD too so I know people like this are very real. It’s usually not this extreme only in the worst cases. I doubt Stan was even gay or bi, he was so attached to him mentally and emotionally that he thought of them as one which is crazy but happens. This is one of Eminem’s most famous songs and “Stan” was even made a dictionary word after the video meaning obsessive fan

Not only in the movies most men in my hood wore these under clothes but in the summer as a regular top and a lot of men did beat on there wife's, girlfriend, baby mothers etc....so sad this name stuck for a tank top.
What I think is so brilliant about it is Em's ability to tell this whole story from Stan's perspective. Truly one of his masterpieces. I love that you, the younger generation, now know where the term Stan came from.
The guy playing Stan in this vid is actor Devon Sawa, he played the main character in the first 'Final Destination' film and also the hilarious and underrated 'Idle Hands' 🤗
Genius how he can paint the picture from 2 perspectives, just doing it himself. He's very good at tweaking his voice to make you get in deep with the story to believe you are listening to Stan, or Kim etc
My favorite song by Eminem and honestly my favorite song in general. Imagine experiencing this song when it was heard for the first time on it’s release (I was fortunate enough to) and it still gives me chills. Know it by heart. And your views won’t be accurate bc it was released in 2000 before TH-cam existed. MMLP is one of the highest selling albums of this generation. Before TH-cam there was TRL and he dominated the charts. Nobody really came close. Great reaction guys!!
The song that got ‘stan’ in the dictionary! It cracks me up so many kids use the word and have no idea it originated from this song. The wife in the trunk, etc, is representing a fan taking his music literally and acting out his lyrics. Considering he just had a dude break into his home to kill him, there are definitely people out there with this level of crazy. I can’t even imagine the weird fanmail he received at the height of his 8 mile popularity.
Em wrote this song after hearing the original song the hook is from (by the very woman [Dido] playing Stan's wife) Her song was about missing someone and hope with depression, but when Em heard it and the line "your picture on my wall, it reminds me that it's not so bad." Em first thought of a stalker fan so he wrote this and got her permission to put her in the song and when she heard the song she loved it and wanted to be in the video
This right here is most definitely real. Fans can to become so obsessed with their favorite artist that they will stalk them and even imagine themselves fully being with that person. It's very sad but it's also very dangerous too.
Devon Sawa is one of my favorite actors from some of my favorite movies like Idle Hands,Final Destination,SLC Punk,Now and Then,Casper,Wild America,The Fanatic

Thats what makes Tom MacDonald's "dear slim" , which he purchesed EM's "stans revenge" beat for an omague so perfict in the way Tom Delivered his Video.
I remember when Em performed this song on an awards show years ago. At that time , the media was giving him a hard time, saying that he was homophobic and that he didn't like gay people. So when he performed the song, he had the great Elton John performing with him singing the hook. After the song, they embraced each other. The audience went nuts. After that performance, I never heard anything again about Em not liking gay people.

To answer your question at 6:48 , yes, people like that exist. To name a few, there is the guy who killed John Lennon, the guy who killed Christina Grimmie, and then there's Ricardo Lopez, who was so obsessed with Bjork that he sent a suicide bomb to her before taking his own life. He had hoped they would unite in heaven. There are people like this everywhere you go.
I remember the first time I heard this song, it was with the video on MTV. My reaction was pretty much like yours. Definitely had me listening to every word he said.
I can remember back in 2000 when I was in High School level, I had to buy poster of Eminem with a lyrics of Stan on it. I used to follow the lyrics of this song while holding that huge poster. Hehe! Those were the days-the days which I think I was "stanned" by Em.
This song is like one of those psychological movies with a fked up twist at the end 😂. But that's how brilliant this song was and such a genius writer Em was. This and Immortal Technique's Dance with the Devil, which u reacted to, have the craziest twists at the end.
THANK YOU for finding the unedited version!!!👏👏👏 Eminem's videos are next level - BUT 'Stan' is one of his best, if not thee best song/video ever made, by any Artist from any genre! 'Darkness' is also AMAZING - literally a MASTERPIECE - Em is THE GOAT!🐐 His rapping, rhyming schemes. double/triple entendres, storytelling abilities, his vocabulary is insane - he's like a walking dictionary/thesaurus - Genius is an understatement.🐐#Eminem
I was a Stan to the Stan music video back in 2001, kept on waiting for it to play on MTV. And the track too, kept playing it on repeat. The first ever (of the 3 total) Eminem song I learned. Was 17. Beautiful song, beautiful clip. A master piece imo.
This song is one of my all time favourite. It still giving me chills. The last line when Em realises he's writing the letter to the guy he saw on the TV, is so moving that I always say "damn" at the same time. Masterpiece.
Em really captured the essence of a deranged fan obsessed w/ a celebrity figure... stalkers who get caught trying to harm the subjects of their obsession. One of the many cases was Mark David Chapman... he was Beatles fan and obsessed w/ John Lennon. Now, the Beatles broke up in 1970... John Lennon (their key member) eventually settled in NYC and lived there w/ his wife & son after giving up music by 1975. In 1980, he decided to return to music and released a new album... Mark David Chapman bought that album 'Double fantasy' and a gun, before he went to NYC. John Lennon didn't have bodyguards- he felt at home there and lived quietly... Chapman went to his apartment building and saw Lennon leaving for a studio during the day, and got his copy of 'Double fantasy' signed. When John Lennon returned to the apartment building that evening, Chapman was waiting for him and shot him in the back, killing the former Beatle. Mark David Chapman is still in prison for that murder. We still don't understand why he did it... he was mentally unstable. It was one of the biggest tragedies in music history.
Another example is the man who murdered Dimebag Darrell. 😭 He was so obsessed with Pantera that he started to believe they had stolen his lyrics. It also seems that he really lost it when the band broke up. So sad what obsession can do to people. 😔
Did you guys know that a guy named Matthew tried to break into Em's home last year, and is now jailed, he's 27yo, and at the time Stan song dropped in 2000, he was six years old. - If you didn't wanna talk to me outside your concert You didn't have to, but you coulda signed an autograph for Matthew That's my little brother man, he's only six years old We waited in the blistering cold for you For four hours and you just said, "No." Also listen to Bad Guy song and prepare to have your mind blown. It's the sequel. Stans little brother comes back for revenge, and he breaks into Em's house in the song in the same way this guy did. And some people at the time claimed Stan was written based on true events.
Google the guy named Mathew who broke into Em's house about 6months ago and his security was sleeping and Em had to grab him and hand him over to security, great reaction 👍
Go back and rewatch the video, at the end of thevide0 when the last lightning bolt strikes you see stan looking in at eminem in the window, sends chills downs my spine to this very day 21 years later...

I didn't appreciate this song as much as I do, since I listened and watched this uncensored video. It really does leave you with the chills. And Stan's sillhouette appears a few times on Em's window.
Fans definitely get obsessed to crazy levels just look at what happened to Dimebag Daryl the guitarist for Pantera and Damage plan! Fan murdered him onstage!
This song is actually a true story, he had fan that was a young child. That admired his music. That child's parents were having all kinds of issues. He wrote to eminem like the song says, trying to figure things out for himself. He didn't receive the letters because of his manager. So that kid's father got drunk and kidnapped his girlfriend and got drunk and in an accident. Killing them both.
Here is that "This is where the word 'Stan' originated from, was included in the dictionary and adopted world wide after this as an obsessive fan" shit comment. But for real tho, I've heard others being surprised by the fact. Bad Guy is next now. The last verse is one of his greatest.

Now go back and watch Tom’s “Dear Slim” again with a different understanding. Look at all the similarities in the videos. The car, the basement, many more … Tom killed it on the details. 😎🙌🏻. Can’t believe you’d never seen Stan!! A classic for sure. 💜

Wow what an explanation now I've become u're Stan
I remember the first time I heard this song, it was with the video on MTV. My reaction was pretty much like yours. Definitely had me listening to every word he said.
When Em performed this live with Elton John it was fire!
I been waiting for someone to notice stan in the window at the end. . . And she noticed it. . .Salute ! ! !
“Dido” is a great artist too!❤️🔥
I can remember back in 2000 when I was in High School level, I had to buy poster of Eminem with a lyrics of Stan on it.
They got to react the this!!!!!
3:13 you said "like Stan type" ... That definition of "Stan" CAME FROM THIS SONG 🤣
I was a Stan to the Stan music video back in 2001, kept on waiting for it to play on MTV. And the track too, kept playing it on repeat. The first ever (of the 3 total) Eminem song I learned. Was 17. Beautiful song, beautiful clip. A master piece imo.
STalker + fAN = STAN
He was so obsessed with Pantera that he started to believe they had stolen his lyrics. It also seems that he really lost it when the band broke up. So sad what obsession can do to people. 😔
He did it because he felt immensely betrayed when the Beetles claimed they were "bigger than Jesus"
@@Utonian21 Nope. Not even close.
Because of the context and point of view of an obsessed fan etc, I think this is one of the best songs ever written. 🔥👌
Did you guys know that a guy named Matthew tried to break into Em's home last year, and is now jailed, he's 27yo, and at the time Stan song dropped in 2000, he was six years old.
- If you didn't wanna talk to me outside your concert
You didn't have to, but you coulda signed an autograph for Matthew
That's my little brother man, he's only six years old
We waited in the blistering cold for you
For four hours and you just said, "No."
Also listen to Bad Guy song and prepare to have your mind blown. It's the sequel. Stans little brother comes back for revenge, and he breaks into Em's house in the song in the same way this guy did. And some people at the time claimed Stan was written based on true events.
Spoilers?????????
This Dido hook was from one of her most famous tracks idk how Eminem heard it from but he asked her to hop on the video.
Bad guy straight after guys let’s doo it 🔥🔥
In the video when he says " it was you" the lightning hits and Stan's face is in the window was a cool touch
Google the guy named Mathew who broke into Em's house about 6months ago and his security was sleeping and Em had to grab him and hand him over to security, great reaction 👍
I felt the same way wen I heard this for the first time when I was younger I've always been an eminem fan and I love yall reactions keep it up
100% real people like this that’s why he wrote it. Look into all the stalker fan cases over the years for different artists and celebs
Go back and rewatch the video, at the end of thevide0 when the last lightning bolt strikes you see stan looking in at eminem in the window, sends chills downs my spine to this very day 21 years later...
Eminem is a genius the way he changes his vocals for every verse.... Getting more angry for every verse except for the last one...
There are definitely people like this. Ive worked in the entertainment industry very closely with major stars. There are a lot of fans this obsessed.
You have to do Bad Guy Next. Huge Surprises in that song.
She keeps looking at the clock!!!!😅😂🤣😂
And he's obsessed with Eminem 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Best reaction ever 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
greatest Eminem record to date dont @ me
How come is his first time listening to Stan? I ain't belive it, is crazy that you 2 dont know this piece of art til now
The song was so good they turned Stan into a word
Dido is beautiful, her voice is so soothing and there's hardly a difference between her studio version here and the live version.
If you want to hear another great storytelling song with a twist ending try Dance With the Devil by Immortal Technique. Just as good as Stan.
Already reacted to it fam!
Also check out eminem and xzibit don't approach me kinda on the same lines of stalker stan behaviour
Great Reaction Guys!!!! This Was The Song That Turned Me Into An Em Fan... I'm Not A Big Fan Of Rap Music.... I Used To Listen To The "Old School" Rap From The Early To Mid 80`s!!! But I Am Open To All Types Of Music 🎶!!!! My Teanage Daughter Was Into Rap Music... So That Was How I Was Exposed To Em's Music... At First I Wasn't To Thrilled About His Lyrical Content... But I Was Trying To Keep An Open Mind!!!! Then I Heard This Song!!!! My Mind Was Blown Away!!!! So Much That I Really Started To Listen To His Music!!!! I Even Took My Daughter And One Of Her Friends To See Him In Concert!!!! Keep Up The Great Work, And Thanks For Reacting To This Song!!!! Peace ✌ ☮ 🕊
Bruh homegirl looks baked af lol
You're going to find out the bigger your channel gets. You have so many subs that people will literally get mad if you don't respond to their request or comments. Like if all your subscribers asked you a question there is no way you could respond to everybody. So imagine Eminem with millions of fans and some will be obsessed with him but he wouldn't know it unless they did something real crazy. Man. Great reaction!!
Eminem - Bad Guy
I didn't appreciate this song as much as I do, since I listened and watched this uncensored video. It really does leave you with the chills. And Stan's sillhouette appears a few times on Em's window.
One of the greatest storytellers in hip hop...ever.
3:09 This Song Is Why They’re Called Stan’s… Also Why STAN Is In The Dictionary
3:10 "like a Stan type" this song is where the term "Stan" came from.
This my top song I like of Eminem
Ol girl never talks 😂😂 finally got a few words this video
Fans definitely get obsessed to crazy levels just look at what happened to Dimebag Daryl the guitarist for Pantera and Damage plan! Fan murdered him onstage!
I remember the day this came out. Even me as a young kid felt the same way you guys are now. Em is literally a rap god.
Bad guy has to follow Stan 🔥🔥
🔥🔥🔥🔥 that song is an experience fr
And this is where Tom MacDonalds - Dear Slim originated >.>
This is phenomenal reaction 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
This song is actually a true story, he had fan that was a young child. That admired his music. That child's parents were having all kinds of issues. He wrote to eminem like the song says, trying to figure things out for himself. He didn't receive the letters because of his manager. So that kid's father got drunk and kidnapped his girlfriend and got drunk and in an accident. Killing them both.
Need too react too eminem talking to myself
"You know I thought it was called white beater this whole time" 😂 💀
bad guy next its told through the prospective of stans little brother. helps to know before listening then the song hits harder. like so they know
This song is creative Eminem raps from a fan point of view. Eminem put Stan in the dictionary. Good reaction guys.
Here is that "This is where the word 'Stan' originated from, was included in the dictionary and adopted world wide after this as an obsessive fan" shit comment. But for real tho, I've heard others being surprised by the fact.
Bad Guy is next now. The last verse is one of his greatest.
I remember the first time I listened to this and then immediately went out let my cousin borrow my discman to listen to it. Whole album is great, this song is poetic.
The reason he’s doing what he’s doing is because of Eminem’s “Bonnie and Clyde” the reason he’s going to call his daughter Bonnie
They call obsessed Fans "Stan" because of this Song :D
Yeah I thinking it’s a play on “stalker” and “fan”
