    I have to say that it was nice to actually hear real RST reports. A constant 59 59 59 doesn't help when you need to know exactly how your radio is performing. 73!! de KE5ES

      I agree. I like doing QRP CW, and I've neve, ever been 599 in anyone's Rx, not in my 40+ years as a ham! So I go the next step just to have some fun: when I get a 599 from a pota or sota op, I'll return an honest one. "here ya go, enter this one in yer log....". Might be a little passive-aggressive, but hey, I was stuck in Seattle for over ten years. Ya can't sit in a toilet for ten years without starting to stink I guess

      @@n8nkqrp595 hahaha. I certainly appreciate the passive aggressiveness. My fav with work emails is "per my last email". I'm also big on standard phonetics. Especially when someone says Sugar in their call. I try to always reply with a Sierra. For no real reason at all, that "sugar" thing just gets me :). I understand using different phonetics if you are having trouble copying, Mexico, Denmark, etc. but for some reason sugar just makes me cringe.

    Have my G90 for the last couple of weeks, amazing rig. With 15 watts I am able to make contacts to Norway, Belarus etc from Chennai India easily. The rx is very sensitive and performs superb on general BC listening and other utilities stations. Extremely valuable for the money spend on the rig and its cooling stand. After so many years I could hear some Number/Phonetics stations recently on 8992 khz.

    There's a few stations either out of convenience or afraid of hurting feelings and will yield a 59 to whoever's calling, even when I have to give him my call three times... yeah I'm coming in 59 alright. lol
    Its like... what's the best way to say it, a hard C- is a better class than an easy A+.
    Being told I have a 45 signal without the other station knowing I'm only operating at 5W and he's four states over is a very proud feeling. Looks like you had fun out there. Thanks for sharing.
    The G90 sips power, operates up to 20W with no fan (SSB voice, you'll need it for digital), and actually maintains that output even in conventional "brownout conditions" where input falls past 11V. My only gripe is the thinness of the power cable, the SO-239 vs BNC for antenna input , and the fact that they use an extra bulky Serial cable over a slimmer Cat8
    Hope to hear you on the bands,
    73 de KN4GEI

    • @hamradiotube
      @hamradiotube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always want a real signal report when I'm out portable, and give them too. Contests I don't really care though. I like to see where and how will I'm getting out and an accurate signal report is the way to do that. I don't mind the power cable. It's not pulling much power so its not a big deal for me but that stupid serial cable is the dumbest thing in the world. They're like, hey, lets make a really cool, leading edge entry level radio, but lets put really old technology in with it. Almost completely renders the idea of remotely placing the head unit useless.

On my way home from work at Henry Ford Hospital in the New Center area.. the Wings had just swept the Flyers in 4 games to win the Cup. For the first time since 1955. I-75? utter and complete chaos - at a stand-still - engines shutting off and people getting out and dancing.. and partying.. on the four lanes of I-75. It was unreal. Jimmy sakated up behind Bing, turned him around, hand on shoulder, and jacked him. In the mouth. The ref's knew why.. Ottawa knew why.. and they let it go with pride. @hamradiotube  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well thank you for watching and good luck on the test! I don’t think it’s the best idea to get a low power radio for your first rig. For about $150 more, you can get a Yaesu FT-891 and get a whole lot more radio. Or you can ask around on some of the repeaters or clubs if anyone has anything used they would be willing to part with for a new General. That’s the way I went and ended up with a Yaesu ft-450, a nice antenna tuner, and a Yaesu 30amp power supply, all for $440!! Low power is fun, but I would never want it as my main mode of HF. Get a 100 watt radio. If the bug gets you like it did me, then explore into other methods of operating. Plus, if you want to try qrp, you can always turn the power down. I almost got an ft-817 for my first portable rig and boy am I glad I went with the 891 instead!

      I was using a Wolf River Coils silver bullet mini with a 5' telescopic whip on a trunk mount. I'll do 40-6 meters. The tuner wouldn't be necessary as the WRC antenna is a tunable antenna. However, if you had a wire antenna say an EFHW or a 9:1 unun fed random wire antenna, there's not much I haven't been able to tune. I've even tuned my OCFD (resonant on 40, 20, 10, & 6) on 160-6 with the internal tuner and it handled it like a champ.

    Nice. That antenna seems to have a pretty good take off angle too. Still using 3 radials? Did you max out the wattage on your radio the whole time?

    • @hamradiotube
      @hamradiotube  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have any radials when its on the car, but if its not, yes. I was running 20 watts the whole time for this activation. QRP wasn't the goal for this, I just wanted to see how it performed. It passed haha!

    Another ham radio comment: That's what happens after that cheating pathetic Mario Lemieux hits Chris Draper. Everyone knew that someone had to bleed for that... and Patric Roy did. Great netminder. Not as great as many of Detroit's best, but still great. You paid the price for Lemieux there Mr. Roy. And you bled heavily from the face - as Warrior Mr. Jimmy Howard took his victory laps, pre-penalty, past the concrete bowl of screaming maniacal fans.... and of course to the approval and admiration of the ref's and Ottawa. History lesson by Wirehead. 73 OMs and any women if present

What a grin.. in '08 to finally meet the idiots in post season play for the first time ever... and to deny them the cup (ideally forever).. in that, our 23rd finals and their 3rd (haha).
