My mother was born in Danzig in October of 1921. She and her family came to the United States in July, 1928. I have a few photos of Danzig that were passed down. Is there somewhere to post these and is there an interest. I have one of their apartment in Langfuhr of my grandmother in the window. It is interesting and seems to want to tell a story. Thank you.

It was originally polish territory during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. However, the polish population was indeed fled Gdansk or Danzig after the Parrition of Poland. Under which the Prussian Germans heavily migrated to it, therefore it became a German city until 1945, with the mass deportation of Ethnic Germans to both Germanys in 1945.

@@luzak067 Dude, we don't care how many years Danzig was under Polish control. Today, most of the city is made up of Prussian/German architecture. The St. Mary's church, Neptune's fountain, etc. Just look them all up.

@@krzysztofsiedlaczek2977 Yes, REBUILT ! But their foundations were built by Germans. I'm pretty sure for most of its history, Danzig was a Germany majority city and built by them. Look who built its landmarks, look at the list of the names of the mayors of the city until 1945.

@@julien.s2002 First 300 years of it's existance Gdansk belong to Kingdom of Poland. Those people build a first fundations. In 1308r the Teutonic Knights trickled the Poles and took over the city. Gdansk had been STOLEN by Germans. During the 13-year war, GDANSK FOUGHT AGAINST German Teutonic Knights alongside the Polish king Kazmierz Jagiellończyk. The inhabitants themselves were in favor of belonging to the Polish kingdom.
The city received land and goods acquired after the war with the Teutonic Order and became the main Polish trade center and entered the golden age of its development
. As a curiosity I will only add that it is neither Poles nor Germans that are responsible for the economic success of this city, but the Dutch where MAJOR inhabitants who at that time settled and traded in these areas, and what you think was German foundations were really Dutch. Tenements were built in the Flemish style from Dutch bricks that came as a ballast on ships. Dutch name of Gdansk is Danswijck . Read this to yourself before You start writing nonsense about German foundations.
Most of the German foundations that remained in this city are bunkers, shelters, tunnels and nazi concentration camp in nearby Stutthof.
