    Appreciating this now that I’m setting up with NINA. In my previous system my limits were configured in my software on Mac with a Watchdog utility on the Linux server that performed an auto-park if the client software lost connection for more than 10 seconds. That would prevent the mount from continuing to track into a crash. Now that I have full access to EQMOD in Windows it will be nice to set the limits there instead of having to deal with it from the hand controller.
    Thanks so much,
    Cheers!

      Hey no worries mate. Glad this information was useful. Like you say it's very nice to just set the limits using EQMOD.
      Cheers

    Thank you Ollie. I'll have to remember to investigate and do this when my rig is finally up and running (esprit 80 based; ZWO 1600mm pro mono and HEQ5pro mount).

      Hey No worries Dave, To be honest on my 80mm refractor I didn't need to worry about it too much but probably still worth checking and setting just to be on the safe side. 👍

    Been there, done that.. glad everything was okay. I had an extension on my Orion Atlas EQG but I could never get it secure so I took it off. It had a tendency to rotate if you weren't careful.

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jason cheers mate, I'll keep an eye on that, I've got it all locked down pretty well so I'm hoping will be ok. I was a little surprised they didn't include someway for the extender not to rotate 🤔 if it does I'll put some sort of rubber seal at the bottom so it's not metal on metal.

    Great info Ollie! I have mine set on my EQ6 and my CEM120 has the limits built in as well so that's nice. Thanks for sharing this as I think it's a huge help to beginners and I think it's really important to set those.

      Hey Cheers Joe 🙂 - Ye I agree it's one of things you really just need to take the time to make sure you set, like you say hopefully will help beginners a bit where to find these .

    Very useful video. Kind a scary seeing the guiding suddenly go off the charts only to find the whole imaging rig being jammed up against the tripod leg - been there.

    Very informative video Ollie I've never set the limits on mine but I know I should do especially when I'm out in the field at star parties so I'll make a note of this thanks. The pier extension you have is identical to the one I had to fit to the pier in the observatory which has bought up a few problems like where will the dewshield go lol.
    Great work keep em coming mate clear skies.

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah yes that's a good point pal, I can imagine in an observatory setting this certainly could present a few issues, I guess you have to leave it off or Park the mount in a different position 🤔. I haven't really had to worry about these limits in the past it's just with this super long thing on the scope!! Cheers Pal clear skies :)

    Good video Ollie! I was thinking to set limits to my mount also, but with the smaller telescopes like Skymax 127 having a short tube i have not need them so much. I think will set some limits also for situations when i have the mount to track more after meridian flip, can be very useful.

      Hi there Ioan - I must admit when I used only my 80mm refractor I really didn't bother setting these as I have plenty of clearance so it wasn't an issue, but you're right there can be situations when it's useful. BTW you prefer Ioan or John? Cheers 👍

      @@AstroSoundscape Hello Ollie! In romanian is Ioan, translated in english is John. I said in some videos John because is easyer for people to remember and pronunce in english. So there are both ok. I should have a third name. Leonardo

      Hey Ray - I feel like there's so much to remember in this hobby it's so easy to miss things. I forgot to put my counterweight on the other day before the scope, working in the dark!!😲. Cheers Ray.

    Great stuff. I am using ASIAIR and it has the minutes before/after meridian setting too. I only use it to make sure my mount is not getting in its own meridian flip routine before the ASIAIR does.
    My CEM40 has its dec plate a considerable amount further away from center so I don’t run into my tripod as easily. Nevertheless I have a pier extension on my CEM40 that runs the refractor. The EdgeHD is running perfectly fine on a CEM40 without an extension.

      Gday Martin - I currently only use the ASI Air on my tiny rig but it's good to know it has this feature too. Sounds like the design of the CEM mitigates this somewhat with that Centre Balanced design. Looking forward to your upcoming video although that smoke looks a bit scary !!😲

    Another thing that helps is to make sure you put the guide scope and another equipment that can be moved toward the camera. This will shift the weight toward the back which means when you balance the camera has to be raised higher.

    Hey Ollie! That must have been a scary moment when the collision happened! The 120 is a long beast mate 😀 Hope it didn’t cause any damage! I use the ASIAIR which has a defined time of 10mins, before and after meridian. But be warned, if you use the ASIAIR, make sure you switch on that feature, as I didn’t the first time I used it, but luckily I was watching the meridian flip and it didn’t happen! I prevented a collision that time! Scary though 😀 Clear skies!

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Simon, No it was all good pal I was pretty much there just as the tracking was moving it into it. I'm only using the Air on my tiny mount for now but good to know it has this feature. Clear skies pal.

    • @IamNotHerbert
      @IamNotHerbert ปีที่แล้ว

      If you set the flip to happen 10 minutes before the meridian, won't it just potentially slam into the legs of the tripod on the opposite side as it flips? I think I need to ditch my ASIAIR on this rig in favor of PC + eqmod/NINA. My ED127 is just too long, even with the pier extender.

  • @paulwilson8367
    @paulwilson8367 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, I am new to NINA, I was simply trying to get through a three point polar alignment, and when I started it going, the mount went right over to 90 degrees! And then it went a few degrees further! This set off the "Meridian & Limits" on EQMOD, and my tracking shut off, and no inputs would work at all.
    Why would the software rotate 90 degrees to begin with? My ASIAIR Pro software stops at 60 degrees. How d o I change that? Just check the little box in EQMOD settings?

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Paul. Honestly not heard of that one. I actually generally only use Sharpcaps polar alignment routine I've never used the NINA one. Yes there is a check box in eqmod which you can untick so limits are not applied. In your case though it's difficult to say what's causing this.

    • @IamNotHerbert
      @IamNotHerbert ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried the three point alignment with NINA exactly once. My dec did a 180 degree turn and the RA started moving.. I panicked and shut it off. Then I renewed my SharpCap license. I don't trust myself enough to set the three point alignment parameters up correctly.
