Honestly being told to slow down and observe things more, and also having the importance of wavelanding explained fully, are things I've only heard from you. I bought the game just 3 days ago and all the guides I've been watching have basically been saying "learn how to move well so you can have more control, always be quick so you can keep your opponent guessing" without really spelling it out properly; which as a complete casual is what I need. I'd been trying to focus so hard on just going fast that I was essentially just button mashing, and still being super punishable. TL;DR thank you for actually giving noob friendly explanations, and also for spelling out that I need to actually know what's going on in the match as opposed to just spamming shorthop aerials and hoping to land a strong attack after a certain point
Parried a Loxodont who was ledge grabbing, then dropping ledge to up special, on repeat ad infinum. The Loxodont was able to grab the ledge and wasn't stunned. Great times.
I'll be honest, I'm completely new to taking platform fighters seriously. The most I did was play with friends before this. Being given all these concepts and terms is seriously amazing! Thank you!
@@crimsonguitarist this is true, I only realized this _after uploading_ 😅, I’ll do my best to match the clips up with exactly what I’m talking about moving forward

Would love some breakdown replay vids of your gameplay! Or maybe of tournament games! Im bad at fighting games but you seem to have a nice way of explaining things so would love to see more of what you are looking at in matches! Have a like and sub!
That’s a good idea! Thing is, because I’d be able to upload them SO frequently, I wouldn’t want to clutter my upload feed with it. I’d hate to strictly put it behind a paywall of the channel membership, but I’m figuring I might do tourney and vod reviews as apart of the channels membership (not even sure how many people would pay 4.99 to see it). I’ll figure that out and probably announce it in a rivals video.
Great first tip! I was playing a best of 3 against a very fast player. As Clairen, I noticed if I just rightB I would hit him everytime. Cuz he just went for me, no matter what. All the time. I think he was better than me mechanically, but I won.
Thanks for all the tips!! I've been struggling with movements on every platform game I play, no matter what character I play my movements don't feel smooth and quick :')
This is a very useful video for newbies like myself. Would appreciate a tutorial on how to ledge guard (Especially Forsburn) because everytime I do this, I end up falling and loose a stock 😅
Gotcha with the follow up guide. In the meantime, my other gameplay videos of rivals 2 should give practical examples of what I describe in this video in real time, give em a watch!
My biggest issue in this game is tech chases. Every time I set one up I think “ok im gonna wait this time im gonna wait” and I STILL try to jab reset or go for a greedy forward smash even when im actively thinking to change my habits
@NotxalkBN for me personally, the bit about conditioning your opponent to do what you want them to do so you can win. I get stuck in my own head when it gets intense during a match and I start rinse repeating strategies and it gets sloppy, they start expecting it. In other words I need to use mixups and force the enemy to expect one thing so I can push them towards another thing to win.
8:56 the sparkles are fast falling from my understanding which hitfalling is too, so its only useful on rising aerials/when you are not at the apex right?
the parrying part is tricky because I haven't yet figured out my optimal button configuration. I tried using R for shield and L fo parry but it feels weird at times and not very intuitive. maybe I should try X or Y because I'm a stick jump user so I don't really need those buttons. this is for gcc I should add^^
so i know in smash 'hitfalling' can't be performed until after you reach the apex of your jump, is that not true in this game? can you hitfall the moment you connect a rising aerial? I'd love to know the answer to this one!
One question I have is it preferable to have tilts or strong attacks on right stick? I'm so used to having my smash attacks on it from playing Melee and Ult but I've seen some people say remapping it to tilts is handy.
I’d say use whatever is comfortable. Ultimately, I’d say using tilt’s for right stick is better due to more consistency on your tilt attacks, but if you’re like me who’s used to smash attacks on right stick, then go for it. You can still perform just as well
Do i have to be holding a direction already when i get hit to di? I feel like im not moving the needle at all sometimes, maybe bc im inputing too late? Seems hard to be ready for it though..
Yea, needs to be _while_ your in hitstun (at least that’s how it functioned in rivals 1), so the input needs to be pretty fast and you’d need to hold in that direction
for normal di you can press the direction you want after getting hit. I would suggest hitting training mode and using the settings there to see the di lines, they show you the max you can steer yourself in either direction. that said, the sooner you hit the direction you want, the more you'll move in that direction. (there is something called ssdi that needs to be done as you get hit, but learning regular di first is more important)
great vid but at 3:16 idk why youd call that a "tomohawk", like thats just an empty jump into throw, no offense but i think its weird how plat fighter players always come up with weird names for things that already have names in traditional fighters
Timing, similar to smash ultimate. you can map a button to it and press it before the enemy attacks. Conversely, you can hold shield and press special to parry
If someone's camping you practice your movement pretty much every character can get around the stage in like 1 second. Also you could try baiting them and punish
a lot of characters have combos into kills, heck most good characters can do grabs into strongs or other kill moves. so while yes learning to use your kill moves is good, dont just say don't worry about combos.
My whole point was to not worry about them _too_ much for right now and learn what can kill, since this is aimed at an audience of people just picking the game up, I stressed learning kill moves since I struggled with that at first.
@@brandonwright1489you make a very solid point, that’s why I’m gonna be uploading more sparking rather than rivals (even tho I personally love platform fighters). I just don’t wanna pigeon hole myself into one game y’know?

Precisely. Conversely, you can use it after a jump to land quicker, which serves as a way to mix up the opponent 💪
the parrying part is tricky because I haven't yet figured out my optimal button configuration. I tried using R for shield and L fo parry but it feels weird at times and not very intuitive. maybe I should try X or Y because I'm a stick jump user so I don't really need those buttons.

Yes! Also hitfalling isn’t in smash, that’s fast falling, a bit different from this games hit falling
@jesseshadowen8218 Hitfalling is done during hitpause
If you're doing a normal throw, is there ever a reason not to pummel? Is it always simply extra damage?
Sometimes it’s better to do a throw quickly so that you mix up your opponents DI, otherwise the pummel is extra damage only. Good question!
One question I have is it preferable to have tilts or strong attacks on right stick? I'm so used to having my smash attacks on it from playing Melee and Ult but I've seen some people say remapping it to tilts is handy.
