Where in the Bible does it says demons don't possess people today?

In the Old Testament book of Zechariah, the prophet said in verses 1-2: ""In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness. "It shall be in that day," says the Lord of hosts, "that I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they shall no longer be remembered. I will also cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to depart from the land." This is a Messianic prophesy about Jesus for he was the fountain opened for the house of David, coming to pay the price for sin through his death on the cross. At the time Jesus came, idolatry didn't exist in Israel among the Jews, they worshiped the true God. The prophets would depart out of the land not soon after Jesus' death (within roughly 60 years). The unclean spirits (demons) would also pass out of the land as Jesus and the apostles cast them out. This was necessary for God promised that he would not allow us to be tempted above that which we are able to bear, but provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). If we are possessed by a demon such a promise would be meaningless. Moreover, when accused of casting out demons by the power of Satan, listen to what Jesus said in Matthew 12:26-29: "If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house." In casting out demons, and later dying on the cross, Jesus was binding Satan (the strong man) and plundering his house (saving those who obey Jesus through faith). The apostles finished the job of casting demons from the land through the power they received from the Holy Spirit. The power that Satan and demons had to possess mankind was taken away from them, allowing all men, everywhere to repent and turn to God if they so choose (Acts 17:30). I hope this answers your question, and thanks for writing in.

I don't believe we ever said that demons do not exist, for they most certainly do, the question is: does God allow them to possess people today, like he did in the New Testament times? We believe the answer from scripture is no:
Zechariah 13:1-2: ""In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness. "It shall be in that day," says the Lord of hosts, "that I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they shall no longer be remembered. I will also cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to depart from the land."
This is a Messianic prophecy, referring to the times of Jesus. Note it is said that when the Messiah comes, the unclean spirits would pass out of the land. In the New Testament, demons are referred to as unclean spirits (Luke 8:29). Now if this prophecy referred to Jesus, we should be able to see its fulfillment in the times of Jesus as part of his mission. We do, for in Matthew 12:24-30 we find:
"Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, "This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons." But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. And then he will plunder his house. He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad."
Part of Jesus' mission was to 'bind the strong man' (Satan) and take away his power. Some of his power was for him and his demons to overtake men and women and possess them. Jesus said if he came casting out demons by the power of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you, implying a fulfillment to Zechariah 13. Was this mission completed by the close of the New Testament? Yes it was for in 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 Paul said:
"Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."
When a person was possessed by a demon, they could not expel the demon on their own, nor could they control their actions, for the demon controlled them. If God's promise in 1 Corinthians is that God will not allow temptation to overtake (which means he won't allow the Devil to force us to sin), the power of the Devil and his demons to possess us must be taken away. God can take power away from the Devil and restrain him as we see in the Book of Job.
If demons do not possess people today, what do they do? Like the Devil, we believe they are involved in tempting men and women to sin, though they can't overpower us. In the end though, they will be punished in hellfire, along with those who do not obey God (Matthew 25:41-46). Thanks for the comment.
