The zero error of vernier calliper and screw gauge are different!! In vernier scale if the vernier scale is in front of the main scale we will say the zero error is positive. But in screw guage if the the zero in the screw is infront of the main scale we will say it is zero error is negetive.!! When the number of observation increase by n times the random error decrease by n times. This happens because when we repeat the observation .,there is more chance to get our measured value close to the true value . And taking average of a particular set of measurements tends to fall in area where there is more measurements is present. That's y it is said tht when observation increase by n times.
