If OP can, she should definitely ask Roman to go into therapy. He definitely seems like a kid that will take well, especially based on his relationship with his mother. Puberty's a hard time, and learning your father figure is grooming you is an unimaginable road block in emotional development for a boy.

Naturally... because they assume the single mother will want her son to have a male role model to look up to. At first I wanted to cut this guy some slack thinking that maybe he just never thought about having kids and then suddenly realized what he was missing and got too involved. But no, the missing laundry tells a tale.

The sister isn't going anywhere. Based off the post, it seems to me the sister is either delusional, or actually already knew something twisted about David this whole time and in delusional fashion, got it in her head that she could change him somehow (probably thru Roman if she knew David was a predator). This could explain why she was blaming her sister for his demeanor shifting again AFTER she left the house with her son.

That your kid lost clothes only AFTER the bf does your nephew’s laundry? The constant texting? Who gets mad at a 13 year old for not responding to texts WHILE THEY’RE AT SCHOOL????

A predator. He's a predator n she's in denial. David stalked them to their hotel while thinking Mum was out n tried to gain entry. He then showed up at sports games despite being told not to do so. Sister is still in denial n is sticking by him, claiming OPs history of Bipolar is to blame (so shes in heavy denial and is victim shaming). They're getting an arrest warrant for him bc she went to the police. He could face up to 5yrs in prison on charges of stalking harassment and lascivious behavior towards a minor. there were a couple of updates to this story. OP went to the cops and they took the situation very seriously and started working pretty fast on it. David ended up SHOWING UP to OPs motel room late at night and knocked on their door like a minute after OP left to buy something at a store around the corner, but luckily she heard the knocking and ran back and confronted David. he said that he wanted to talk to her, but it was obvious that he waited for her to leave before knocking so his excuse was BS. anyway, the legal investigation continued but OP eventually deleted her account and people aren't sure why.

I'm pretty sure my entire household could hear me screaming "THIS IS GROOMING" for the entire first section.... and the MOMENT OP mentioned missing clothing, I screeched "IT'S UNDER HIS PILLOW, I WOULD BET MY *LIFE* ON IT," not realizing she was going to actually freaking find it later.... I've never been so horrified to be right in my life. 😢 I think the one thing that wasn't said that I was left with in the end, is that..... this is Sarah's NEPHEW we're talking about. Not just a friend's kid or anything like that, where she could have an (albeit terrible) excuse for some emotional distancing from the victim here. *He is her nephew.* I would throw myself in front of a moving train to save my nephew from harm, what is WRONG with her?! There's IRREFUTABLE evidence. The video, his DNA, PERIOD. It's really quite simple in the end. She has NO EXCUSE for choosing her P E D O HUSBAND over her innocent, WONDERFUL nephew here. I mean I know moms will always make their kid sound stellar and all, but what we know about Roman makes it clear just how lovely a person he is, because he was raised by the same type of person. I was so relieved to hear how amazingly OP handled the conversations with everyone, but especially him -- he obviously has complete trust in his mom, she even let him say no to deleting snapchat as long as he followed their compromise rules, these two have a dream relationship tbh, usually 13 year olds are the literal worst. 😂 I hope she can get him the help he needs to support his mental health. This will definitely affect how he trusts (or doesn't) any people in his future, and I'm sure he feels a lot of shame, embarrassment, and sadness. I hope one day he will truly believe that none of this was his fault, because it wasn't. And OP did her best too. What a trip this one was, wow. 😭

Her new boyfriend was molesting them and when they went to her she said they were lieing. So they went to teachers and he got arrested. When he got out the oldest was 15 and the court gave the woman an ultimatum, move the boyfriend back in and move the kids out, or keep her kids because he wasn't allowed within 500 feet of children. She chose the boyfriend and kicked the kids out with nowhere to go. So when he turned 16 he got emancipated and adopted his little brother so they could have a place to live. If the sister has kids that is absolutely going to be her.

It's like these women have the mindset of how they make themselves believe that their man would never ever do anything wrong and that if there are bad things that are being said about him, it's the fault of the person accusing him and how she must defend him from these things because of how as rSlash says many times, people should always support their spouse. This is straight up the real life equivalent of the "blame the paramour" trope.

If David even ends up in jail, it is very likely that he will survive and even garner sympathy from people who believe he can be "rehabilitated". At the risk of exposing myself , as I feel people need to hear the truth, I was a corrections officer and worked directly with the sex offenders unit . They are protected from the other inmates, and rarely, if ever, do they experience any type of mistreatment from other inmates or guards. They are afforded all the rights and protection their victims never received. It is sickening to see, and these types are the biggest whiners I ever had to deal with, but I had to remain professional and treat them respectfully or lose my job. I eventually left this line of work due to this affecting my own mental health having been a victim myself as a child. Yes, sex offenders that prey on children, are one of the most hated inmates, but they are housed seperately from the main population, and are escorted at all times to protect their safety. I don't know if this is the case for all jails and prisons, but this is what it is like in the correctional facilities that I worked in. Infuriating as hell!

What worries me is how quickly it escalated the moment Roman came into the picture. Like, there was almost no hesitation from David to start grooming behavior with overnight changes in behaviors and habits. With a lot of predators who are just starting to act on their fantasies, they always seem to have a lot of reservations and don’t start immediately. I might need to double check this but there’s almost always some sort of escalation needed before they start acting the way David did. On top of that, he was doing it with so much confidence that he was doing this in front of the child’s own mother, which makes me think he was grooming Op so she’d feel more comfortable allowing Roman near him.
So, I don’t know if the reason he started grooming Roman as quickly as he did means he was just emboldened by the easy access he had to the child to play out his fantasies or because… he’s done it before. Just because someone isn’t on the sex offender’s registry doesn’t mean they’ve never done anything deserving of being on the registry before.

Just a warning to parents: sometimes, even if you ask your child if someone is doing inappropriate things to them, they may lie. It may be for many reasons: they could feel shame over the situation, the person bothering them may have threatened them or made them feel guilty, or they haven't been fully taught about the topic and may not know that what's happening is wrong. It happened to me when I was younger, my mom asked me if it was happening and I denied it because I felt that the adult might do something worse if I had told someone. Eventually my mom did find out, but it was long after it had ended. My point is this: trust your gut, even if your child refuses. It could save them and others that are in the same position they are in. I'm happy for Roman that his mother stopped this before it escalated to something worse

Wow... In the beginning, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I've been in a situation where I grew to see a young woman I knew as a daughter, and especially if you don't have any children yourself, that can be a very confusing situation since you're suddenly feeling a lot of emotions that you've never had before. In my case, however, we were both adults so the dynamics were completely different.

My previous benefit of the doubt flew out of the window as soon as that in-the-bedroom incident came up, and then cyber stalking the kid, secretly messaging him, and the stuff that was behind the trigger warning? Jeeee-SUS.

I swear there must be a how- to- book or something these pedos read because this is exactly what my mom's boyfriend (later on he became my step-dad) did to me when I was 11 years old. Back in the 80's, there were no such things as cell phones, so his excuse was that his brother was supposedly coming over ( at 2:00 am) and he was watching for his car out of my bedroom window because it was easier to see. I was woken up because I thought I felt someone touching me. After he left my room I got up and put on my housecoat, wrapped it tightly around myself and cried in my bed. I'd like to say there was a happy ending, but sadly it would take three more years before my mom finally found out what he was doing and then she blamed me. She allowed the abuse to continue and threatened to kill me if I told anyone. It went on for years.

I am now in my 50's, so a lot of time has passed, and although there was no help for me, I am so thankful that Roman has the kind of mother who not only pays attention, but does what needs to be done to ensure his safety. Thank goodness his mom did not fall for David's pathetic excuses and manipulation. David will never believe he did anything wrong and OP's sister will probably continue to make excuses for him. Roman may not be David's only victim either. I only found out my older sister was a victim of my step-father after she ran away from home. My mom didn't believe her, and even when she caught my step-father in the act of assaulting me, she asked me what I had to say for myself. Like, wtf? She turned a blind eye as he continued to assault me every single day for years. I wish I could say that telling someone finally helped, but it didn't. No one helped even when numerous people knew about it. The responsibility is often placed on the child to protect the abuser from facing any consequences. Being told you will" destroy the family" and" it will be your fault if the abuser goes to jail, and everybody ends up homeless", and " no one will believe you because you have no proof" is very effective in keeping victims quiet. Hearing that Roman cried and felt guilty just breaks my heart. I want to thank his mom for protecting him and keeping him safe no matter the cost.

The sister is claiming OP is constantly sabotaging her own happiness but it is sister who is in a relationship where the 'romantic' partner is always out drinking, and who is locked in his room rather than interacting with her the rare times when he is home. A husband (BF? - I lost track) who only stays home and interacts with anyone there when a teenaged boy moves in. HOW on Earth is any of that a relationship that makes the sister 'happy'?!?
I think the sister is desperately unhappy but rather than dealing with the dumpster fire in her own life, she is instead projecting 'you need to be unhappy' onto OP. Where OP got it together enough to escape and abusive relationship, the sister is still in one.

When my oldest son was around 10 he wanted to spend the night with grandpa. I knew he hadn’t drank in years so I let him go. Around 930 that night I got a frantic call from my son demanding I come get him. Seems my father began drinking that night and was acting weird according to my son. This is the update, summarized by one of the commentors as the post and account has been deleted,
    ‐---------------------
"When David went missing, it turns out he went to his parents'. He has them and OPs sister convinced that OP is lying about his interest in her son as being malicious/perverted.
OP and her son were interviewed by a detective, authorities were shown the video evidence she had and she also gave them the article of clothing.
The authorities brought David in for questioning.
Before he was brought in for questioning, he was still messaging OPs son via new accounts. OP screenshotted them, but after a while started deleting or ignoring further messages from him because there were so much. He was essentially telling the son that he was old enough to make his own choices and he shouldn't listen to others.
OP and her son have basically been kicked out of her sisters', but the sister is at least being decent enough to hold onto their things until they move into public housing, which they were approved for.
    Currently, they're in a motel.
David has shown up to OPs sons sports event at a separate school in an effort to tell him his side of the story. This information was shared with authorities.
OP went across the street from the motel to a store to grab a few things while her son was in the shower. David was found knocking on their door when OP turned back and said that he had a right to tell his side and that he wanted to talk to her.
There is speculation that David had been spying on them and waited for the one moment he knew OPs son would be alone because the timing was too exact and it isn't the first time he's tried talking to OPs son alone (ie the sports event at a separate school).
OP called police, but he left as she dialed 911. She is hoping that she gets a restraining order against him.
He's left them alone since he was interrogated by the police, but the charges need to be approved by a clerk.
She has had heightened anxiety and paranoia and finds it hard to get through the work day. Her sons appetite has diminished and he's not entirely happy that the school is bringing in a counselor to check in with him once a week. He prefers to keep his school/social life separate from these current events.
I may have missed a few details, but based on what I recall, that was the post."
    ‐‐-‐------
There may be elsewhere you can read the update in OPs words, but I don't know where to look for it.

When I was 15 my mom accused her ex bf of being a pedophile because he would let me stay at his apartment for school but not her. This was untrue, the reason I could stay but she couldn't is because my mother is an extremely disruptive person who has to take over the entire house whereas I keep quietly to myself on my computer. And if I couldn't stay I'd have to make the hour commute to and from school for an unknown period of time until my mom got the money up to afford our own apartment in town. But the moment I told him my mom was asking people if they thought he might be a pedo he kicked us both out. Even a rumor of pedophilia can ruin a life.
So yeah I totally agree with rslash that no one innocent of that kind of crime would be willing to risk the kid staying in the same house. It's too dangerous for everyone.

Predators groom kids, especially boys, with attention, time, and gifts two win the boy's trust, or to lower their guards. The next step is the laundry clue, her son's underwear and socks disappeared. Next, OP should have asked if on any occasion has David seen him undressed, either partially or completely. Or if her son had seen David partially or completely undressed. Because that's what predators do to groom their victim, and that is to show them that it's okay for another boy or man to see them undressed, but not women or girls. Then watching her son sleep while he's standing over the kid. Well, that's because David will do a little light touching, and watch the boy's body reaction. If the kid wakes up, David has an excuse, "oh, I shook you to wake you up." Since most kids waking up from a deep sleep are slightly confused when they just wake up. They may sense somethings wrong, but dismiss it in the confusion of waking and the embarrassment of a certain part of their body presenting itself covered or not. I've had numerous victim's (boys) of abuse tell me these same things. They didn't know these things were planned and deliberate to lower their guard so their abuser could molest them. Most abusers follow these steps, win their trust, lower their guard, see how they react to touching and displays of affection. It's a process for them with their ultimate goal of sexually molesting them. Most boys react accordingly being innocent and naive, but some don't. For those few, new tactics are used, guilt, threats, and physical abuse are then employed. Anything to cow the kid into silence, yet the predator getting what they want.

OMG! What on earth? I was cautiously giving him the benefit of the doubt until the bedroom thing. That's when I was like NOPE! Roman likes to sleep with the door open so he clearly would have had it open that night and if David was just looking for his cell phone, he would have just walked in and started searching. He wouldn't have closed the door. And even if Roman didn't sleep with the door open, David would have just walked in and searched without closing the door because it is statistically much easier to find things at night when some light is involved so a light from the hallway would have been beneficial to him finding his phone in Roman's room. I'm not even going to get into the fact that it would be weird for the phone to even be in Roman's room in the first place. Honestly, this mom needs to report David and his horrendous behaviour to the police. I appreciate that she didn't immediately go to the police because there was a chance that it was just innocent and no matter whether he was found innocent or not that type of accusation just doesn't go away and would follow him for the rest of his life. But, things keep escalating even after confronting him and telling him that he needs to cut contact with her son. Now it is time to get the police involved because this very clearly isn't just an innocent misunderstanding because if it was, he would have for sure cut contact with her son because that's just what a normal person would do. I have always believed that parents develop strong gut feelings when it comes to their children. They usually know when something just isn't right when it comes to their children. This story just confirmed that. OP had a gut feeling that something wasn't right about David spending all this time with her son and she was right. Don't ignore your gut feelings ever because they are clearly trying to tell you something is just not right about a situation. I hope OP and Roman are doing okay and I hope David ends up in jail because he deserves it.

I normally don't want to jump to conclusions when it comes to accusations like this but the evidence is all there. He's a sick disgusting monster who needs to put on a watch list and kept as far from anyone as physically possible or something I can't put in a TH-cam Comment.

"Just because I am leaving does not mean that I'm letting David get away with what he's done."
And truthfully, just because you're leaving doesn't mean you're out of the woods. You need to be constantly vigilant until he's behind bars!
