Thank You, Father Josiah for this explanation regarding the first initial fear of swift judgement felt by Hell/Death. No one had defeated Death until JESUS. We know who wins in the end. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Death, I fear NOT, for I know the Lord art with me. Let us draw Strength and Confidence of Triumph, against all Evil in high places, from this teaching.
Thank you for your work. I'm a serbian orthadox person raised in Australia, my priest only speaks Serbian and I don't. I'm very greatful for this channel.
Beautiful words Fr. Josiah. Please keep posting, your videos are very profound and helpful. Oh and get on Twitter, there is a thriving Orthodox community over there
I enjoyed this video. The Bible clearly teaches us that Jesus descended into hades and emptied Abraham’s bosom and announced His victory to Hell. “But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)” Ephesians 4:7-10
I've been sedevacantist for two years, and was baptized into the CMRI. however, due to all the confusion and fighting in the Catholic church right now, both between the liberal novus ordites and the trad Catholics, I decided to renounce my faith in Catholicism yesterday. I'm STILL A VERY DEVOTED CHRISTIAN HOWEVER, and I'm very much sold on Orthodoxy instead of protestantism and Catholicism. Orthodoxy is the only Church I've noticed that's even remotely consistent liturgically, and traditionally. So therefore I REALLY want to convert to The Orthodox Faith I don't know where to start though. Can someone PLEASE give me guidance on how to do this? May this Priest, or someone else can respond to my comment and give me steps? I pray to Jesus and Mary that this will be divinely arranged. God bless you, in Jesus and Mary!
How did Christ conquer Hell if at the end in the Judgement Hell will still have it's prisoners? Will not at the end the unjust remain in eternity with the devil's? Won't at the end the devil's have ultimately what it wanted by having God's creation in there with them forever? How is this an ultimate victory? Death has won. Only the few whom chose Christ will live in bliss while the rest will suffer forever and ever and ever no hope....
@@alexandrasymeon5893 it just makes no sense death and torments still exist in this world view. Gods creation still not going to be fully restored. I feel like universal salvation through Christ is the only thing that makes the Harrowing Of Hell anything worth celebrating. Because I don't know how I could be happy if even one person is in torments for all eternity...
What does this mean now? Are ALL people “saved”? I came to faith in Jesus through the British charismatic church in England in 1988. This victory was never taught. What does this mean for those who die, not knowing how to come to faith in Jesus? Especially The Near Death experiences of Hades,Hell. Such as Howard Storm, Ian McCormack. I’m getting confused, too many conflicting teachings.
I thought Jesus descended down into Hades... not Hell, which I believed to be different. Hades being the same as sheol (the realm of the dead) a type of holding stage for souls if you will. If Hell is destroyed then what is the outcome of satan and the evil ones who follow him? What becomes of the resurrection of the wicked at the last Judgement, all those who reject God's grace? What is the meaning of Revelation 20? *REVELATION 20:13-15* ¹³The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each according to his works. ¹⁴Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. ¹⁵And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. *REVELATION 20:13-15* It is my understanding that Hell is the lake of fire... although fire could of been used for hell as a human description, in a way to describe physical pain. Because fire causes pain that we can all experience and therefore we can all relate to that feeling. Could it be possible that Hell on a more spiritual side is the love of God (prehaps through His holy fire), which is poured onto the souls of those who reject Him, hence why they are in torment and feel pain? Likewise those who experience God in His kingdom, experience Him through His holy fire being poured out onto those who worship Him and love Him. Hence why they feel love and eternal joy and peace? I would appreciate any reply to help me understand if I'm close to the mark or if I'm way off. Thanks.
Hell is not a seperate place, the word hell was originally not in the Bible, there was only Hades, Sheol and Gehenna. Later, in the recent centuries they started translating all three of those terms "Hades, sheol and Gehenna" as "hell", which isna term adopted from norse mythology. Now the word hell just refers to Hades, Sheol, Gehenna or death.
