  • Scowl are one of the most intensely angry bands in modern hardcore. Frontwoman Kat Moss' fierce screams and her bandmates' nasty instrumentation make for a uniquely furious punk-rock blitz, so we had Moss and guitarist Malachi Greene pick who they think are the 11 most pissed-off bands of all time. Their choices ran the gamut from irate OGs like the Melvins and Negative Approach to fuming hardcore units like Ceremony and Gulch.
Watch above and tell us some of your favorite pissed bands in the comments below!

I find that the most pissed off bands are the most compassionate ones. You can't be pissed off when you're filled with apathy.
I also think that the "pissed off" nature of the music get diluted when the same techniques are used by multiple bands. It loses it's effect and what was effective 20/30 years ago can seem generic now.

I'd NEVER seen anyone do what are the standard for metalcore stage moves. They thrashed SOOOO HARD! They played soooooo technical! It blew my mind!
And for the hits on 43% burnt... Dimitri blew the huge fireballs!
      It was "show stealer!!!"

i love them but that kind of anger isn't as obvious. the sound is loud, but their presence is often obscure and in the shadows. it's a slow seething rage that eventually implodes, but at times the music is very introspective and restrained too. have you listened to their final album ? it doesn't solely rely on feedback or sheer volume but takes you through a whirlwind of emotions - not just anger. orchestrated guitar tones of depression, regret, guilt, yearning. the vocals are even whispered. i haven't heard anything else like it and believe it's their masterpiece.

Was hoping to see 2 bands not on here. One of them a bit tongue-in-cheek being The Pist. Would have been fun for this list. The second one I thought had a better chance of being on here would be His Hero is Gone. Maybe I’m biased due to age and geography, but Todd Burdette’s vocals in that band personified desperate rage like no other. I still think their first 2 albums* are pretty much the best pieces of music out of the punk/hardcore/extreme music underground in that entire decade. I’m not going to sit here and take apart the list in the video, it’s impossible to define “most pissed” let alone narrow it down to 11 bands. I enjoyed the list for what it was and am just leaving my 2 cents!
*Not being hyperbolic here. If you like crusty, sludgy, angry hardcore and somehow have yet to listen to 15 Counts of Arson, or Monuments to Thieves, do yourself a favor and put aside some time to listen to both, all the way through.
