Finally ! Perkins to STAR POSITION. That’s where he belongs playing around line of scrimmage blizing the passer, doing run blitz, cover a TE or back occasionally. Hes like a hybrid safety/LB. Believe he will shine there.
Jacoby not a take. He was meh at AtM. Why would you want Heard back? He wants a million and played mid to below mid at Tennessee this year. Go watch his game. They can find better production for that same price in the portal
Matt I have heard on other podcasts that Perkins return depends on if LSU will take care of him financially. If dats true Perkins deserves to get paid 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
@@jdawg-h2tya I just want him on the field especially on third downs but we usually are in nickel against the pass and the star is basically that extra player while you still have your 4 d line guys(3 and 1 jack sometimes) so if they are brining 5 then it works but if they need the nickel in coverage he would have to be playing jack or not on the field? Not sure exactly.
Perkins came into LSU as a RB. He was the number 1 RB out of the state of Texas and America. Unanimous 5 star athlete. That means all 4 of the major recruiting services have him 5 stars. He switched to Linebacker when he got to LSU. In 2022 that was the first time that kid played Linebacker. And he was 1st team All SEC Freshman All American and had 7.5 sacks and almost single handedly won the Arkansas game for you that year. They can put Perkins wherever he wants to play. What is the star spot? Is that nickel? He will be playing where Major Burns played this year? Burns is a safety. On 3rd down they need to put Perkins on the edge. That’s all I know. Stand up OLB on 3rd down who rushes and occasionally drops back into coverage to fool the opposing offense.
I know Perk wants to be a 3 down linebacker but, I think he's better suited for a Micah Parsons type role. Weeks and Keys are better at linebacker than Perk is in my opinion.
People expected too much out of him too soon in the middle over role, now with a ton of talent around him i believe they know exactly what to do with him. I think it’s going to be exciting to watch 🐅🐅🐅
Ive always hated the Micah Parson comp because Parson is built way different than Perkins. Parson is built like a small DE, more like Von Miller. Perkins is built like a jumbo safety. It worked at first as a situational player and no one understood what to expect from. But once he was out there full time and they realized the worst thing you can do is run away from him and that it was better to run at him, that was the end of him playing on the edge full time.
@ I said Parsons type role. I never compared them physically. Matt said he'll be playing that Sam position and I think that's perfect for Perkins because they can use him in so many different ways and he's a good tackler.
When they announced last year that they were gonna utilize the Star position, I thought it was specifically for Harold Perkins. I was confused when they left him out of it. Finally, where he belongs.
He’s a second round pick with versatility at tackle and guard. After testing he may sneak into low first round. He had a good year not great year this year but has three of very good film. He’s not missing a lot by leaving. Also not a bad decision to come back minus injury potential.
Perkins Elite athlete no doubt. He hasn’t looked good at ILB. Maybe he can play the star position which means he will have to be able to play man coverage against #2 wrs or he will limit what the DC can do. Thats why the defense played better without him.
Ya I’m not sure about him in coverage against anyone besides a TE or RB and star is usually that nickel spot so was a bit concerned there. Unless he is in on specific scheme and downs I think him at jack is the best especially on 3rd downs
Dude Patrick Payton is not 6’5’’ 210 pounds. What are you looking at his HS profile or something. He is 6’5’’ 250 lbs. if he was 6’5’’ 210 he wouldn’t be playing Defensive end or outside LB. He would be playing safety at that size.
Heard is too slow for OT, Guard yes but slow feet and only plays when he wants too. That was common knowledge in TN. Bard Davis needs to coach up his guys this year.
The biggest word in your comment is “might” which iam saying one of the most important players on the team is your 2nd string QB… Just think God forbid something happens to Nuss and you would have to go to a red shirt freshman that never played College Football and have to start him in the SEC in Hurley…😮🤔
Pretty sure Will Campbell was making $675k. If you have the money to allocate to impactful or potentially impactful players then you absolutely should. Q backup QB is highly important, it only takes 1 play to where he's forced to be your starting QB, you want experience which Michael Van Buren has, Hurley is only 17 and probably won't be ready for SEC play for atleast another year or two. He should have just stayed another year in HS rather than going the reclassified route.
@@jackchilli9154 his stats are no better than AJ Swann in '23, except Swann was a better rusher. It's not an upgrade, we are just paying a lot more. If Nuss is out, just assume we're not winning.
@@jackchilli9154 I think he has more future potential than AJ, because he has more snaps and at a younger age. I just don't think his performance warrants 400k as a backup. Get a 100k backup and put 300k to a position of immediate need.
All this Star & edge talk about Harold Perkins is ridiculous, every time he played Middle Linebacker he made a play. That's his natural position dude is 225 pounds & runs a 4.49 we have plenty people to rush the QB we need solid Middle field play to get better.
I wouldn’t say that the way they used Perkins in 2023 didn’t work. His rookie year was great 7.5 sacks Freshman All American and 1st team All SEC. His sophomore year 2023 he still Was 2nd team All SEC and had 5.5 sacks. It worked just fine but whatever they had him doing in year 1 worked better. That’s all. Perkins needs to be lined up on the edge either side on 3rd downs. He can play MLB on 1st and second downs. He is good at chasing down RBs and tackling and blitzing up the middle. He excels at all that stuff but what he doesn’t the best is rush the passer. He is a natural. He is far too quick for any offensive tackle to handle but he has power too. He is 6’1’’ 225 this year. He needs to get up to about 235-240 and he can be a Hassan Reddick type player in the NFL. Same thing happened with Reddick when he was drafted in the NFL. The Cardinals tried to make him an off ball MLB. Didn’t go well. When they put him on the edge he exploded. Perkins is a pass rusher and he can play MLB on non passing downs. In year 1 they had him rushing the passer more and you can look at his stats and tell. Year 2 was not by any means bad. He had 5.5 sacks and was 2nd team All SEC. That means he was among the handful of the best in the conference. That’s what All Conferance means. That means he was a top 6 or 7 linebacker in the SEC in 2023. In 2022 he was a top 3 LB in the SEC. A lot of people just dismiss All Conferance honors like it’s nothing or no big deal. If it was nothing or not a big deal there wouldn’t be an award for it. It’s a very big deal. Is it everything when evaluating a player? Of course not. If they are all conference does that mean they are a can’t miss prospect who will be successful In the NFL? Of course not. But it’s 1 prove of data that predicts success in the NFL. You needs lots of data and that’s one peice. Also it doesn’t mean that there aren’t future all pro players who didn’t make all American or all conference. There are so many good players in college. Perkins just stood out as one of the best. When that kid stepped on the field it just looked differant than the guys around him. Differant in a good way. The explosion off the ball that he has is next level kind of shit. Weeks is a great player and so is Penn but neither of them hold a candle next to Perkins. I’m sorry but they don’t. You remember when Lenny Fornette playerd for LSU and it just looked differant than any other RB in college football when the ball was in his hands. Like he was an NFL player playing against a bunch of college kids. Perkins is the defensive equivalent of that.
So far, LSU's coaching staff has not been able to figure out the right field position for Perkins. What makes us think they'll figure it right this time around? Right now, I see Perkins as a coin toss. He might turn things around. Or become a bust.
I wish Maason Smith had come back for another year. He could have been a 1st round pick. And if I’m an NFL team and Perkins goes in the draft this year I would use a 2nd round pick on him. For sure a 3rd round pick because he is a 1st round talent. I mean that is obvious when you see him play. He is phenomenal. He is as good as it better than Devin White was at LSU. Devin White was drafted 5th overall by the Bucs. Like Devin White Perkins needs to get his wihht onto 235-240 if he wants to be an NFL pass rusher. And do not say he is too small. Nope you do t get to say that because it’s bullshit. Hassan Reddick, Josh Uche, Nic Herbig. Just 3 I can think of the top of my head who if Perkins gained 10-15 pounds would be the same size as those guys.
If you don't know definitively rite now what position Perkins will line up at and what his assignment and roll will be then he has no business being on your defense..I get it he's athletic maybe he can play running back..but I hear to many excuses on defense as to why he just can't quite cut it at this position or r that. Two years ago nobody knew how to tackle so he stood out. But you were still horrible on defense.
