    I'm in Florida living in my Metro in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Water pump is rusted out and leaking. Valve cover is leaking oil onto my belts. Mechanic said my timing belt probably got wet too. 😏🙄 but how, if it's covered??? He just wants to rip me off. I've been doing my own work on my cars since 2000. I just never done a metro.
    I have a new water pump, timing belt, cam & crank seals, alive cover seal and new water pump belt.
    If I start early morning, do you think I'll be done before sunset 7:30 pm??? Last off all I have a stuck oxygen sensor that needs losened. I have no blow torch, but I do have the long box wrench closed end. Thinking about leaving it in and drilling a new hole and steel puttying a new one on in a different spot. Any recommendations how to get it off without a torch?😭 And why can't I find a IAC valve for this 97 metro lsi 1.3 ??? Anyone please help!😭😢

      My head came pre-assembled so I'm not sure how long cam and crank seals will take, but, yea man i think it's possible. There could be oil on the timing belt. It's covered from the engine bay but essentially enclosed up against the block. Still, that's not the end of the world, just keep everything lined up timing wise and you can swap it out. Good luck fellow travellers! We're building a skoolie conversion for our family of 8. Maybe we'll see you on the road one day!

      Hey, remember to add some silicone to the sharp turns when you put that gasket in or it will leak again

      +Geo Jeff Thanks for stopping by Geo Jeff! Wish I'd found your channel prior to ordering my head, that hillclimber setup sounds fun! I actually just tore this back down after blowing my headgasket AGAIN early this year. Sadly, I learned the hard way not to sit on that repair

    Question 1.) How did you get the Crankshaft Pulley off? 2.) You took off the Water Pump Pulley to get the Timing Cover off? 3.) What do you torque the Water Pump Pulley and Crankshaft Pulley to?

      Shoots! Dude, I'm sorry, I had a brain injury since this series and I don't remember a lot of things. Check the geo metro forums, someone will know for sure. GL w your ride!

    • @Pollo0531
      @Pollo0531 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you have to take off the water pump pulley

  • @storm8663
    @storm8663 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have you experienced any timing belt walk problems? Or was it just the timing belt cover warping that caused the wear marks?

    • @MatthewRobertHenry
      @MatthewRobertHenry  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Storm Didas I haven't had any walking issues since the mod but I did it as part of a whole performance head and cam swap so it's possible it was walking prior or haha I did overheat it when I blew the headgasket 🤔 so there's that warping possibility also...

      Imperial Beach Dad i believe if the belt is walking the idler pully is over tight

    • @MatthewRobertHenry
      @MatthewRobertHenry  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jackhilley6962 that makes sense. The inside of my cover was worn pretty bad so it must have walked prior to the rebuild. It doesn't now so I must have gotten that idler pulley on right in the rebuild

    What happened to the geo. Why did it blow again. I’m bout to change my head tomorrow. Hope I’ll be ok

    • @MatthewRobertHenry
      @MatthewRobertHenry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be fine bro. Mine only blew because I a heater core hose blew while I was on a snowy mountain road that had no shoulder so I had to keep going without coolant. Predictably, it overheated too bad - those aluminum heads and block really don't like heat. Anyway it was operator error, not a bad install and the second one has held up great! Here's a video of me blowing it the second time: th-cam.com/video/-QRU4sQ3Bz0/w-d-xo.html

    Running without a proper timing cover isn't a good idea. Road debris can get throw up into the belt area and those toothed belts aren't as forgiving as the ribbed kind. Years ago I did this mod on an 84 corolla, along with a new belt and tensioner, and after a couple weeks the belt had a pretty good sized chunk taken out of it. Had to replace the belt again and re-install the cover.

    • @MatthewRobertHenry
      @MatthewRobertHenry  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's definitely a risk worth consideration (as with all mods lol). I haven't had ANY issues but then again I drive in California where debris is minimal and the ground clearance on this car with the front lip help protect it. I've never had any problems with the belt and this videos pretty old now. Still - modify at your own risk people :D

  • @JeffDeanTheDeanZone
    @JeffDeanTheDeanZone 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That does not provide enough protection, sorry. Anything can get thrown up in there and make your timing belt snap (I know, I actually tried this and didn't get 50 miles before my timing belt snapped).
