    And this is why huge companies lack of any type of consideration when they hire their lead toy designers, I don’t know if it’s some sort of nepotism, they are just lazy or the toy designers are uninterested in the franchise. People like Marco should be leading these toy design departments

    Another common issue I see them do with feet is not spreading the toes out more, like on the para. Mattel tends to do this sort of "shoe" for the feet, this is weird given the more spread out toes would make the figure balance better

  • @MrTroodon_Official
    @MrTroodon_Official ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I find hilarious how they couldn't make the Parasaurolophus be closer to the TLW concept and maquette given how much good resources there are, like they couldnt even get it right from a sideview wich is the easiest to reference.

    One thing that I would like to add to everything you said Marco (which would ultimately apply to basically any Hammond Collection dinosaur from now on) would honestly just be a dark wash over the figures, so that the colours look less cartoony and more natural and also to bring out more of the sculpt detail. NECA for example have been doing this with their action figures for quite a while now and it's very effective (I personally noticed this on my Pennywise figure from them and it looks great).

  • @jacobcox4565
    @jacobcox4565 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Everyone's saying they had to make the feet big in order for the figures to not fall over. To that I say "Why not put weights in the hips and make the tail longer, because the hips are where the center of mass was for real theropods and counterbalance is the exact function of the tail. If that's too hard, just give the figures a stand, like with the Amber Collection raptors."

  • @34r343
    @34r343 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I feel that the detail isn't that good on theses figures. They just have really soft folds and wrinkles and overall it's not that defined especially on the tyrannosaurus stomach which has the croc skin but the detail is very soft especially when compared to other jp rex models.

    • @bretbuckley704
      @bretbuckley704 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Hasbro JP3 t rex had better plastic quality and detailing than the HC t rex does. People can say what they want about hasbro JP3, but that rex has detail for days and the plastic is VERY nice, thick and durable

    • @tinng9727
      @tinng9727 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think people were to quick to jump on the bandwagon and saying that Hammond collection is the best rex ever. I think it was just a honeymoon phase and I experienced it too. Now when I compare my thrasher to the HC rex, thrasher looks more detailed from head to tail. It also has the right scales in the right places as well as proportionate sized feet.

  • @dontforgetthedodo4248
    @dontforgetthedodo4248 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    While I do agree with most of this, you need to remember that:
    A:feet and tail dimensions are inevitable for balance
    B:Some complaints like the parasaur are in my opinion workse, as they look much weirder with the hanging doo laps.
    C:thin teeth=shipping disasters, pick your poison situation (either have very thick teeth or have very easy to snap teeth, both during shipping and play)
    D:These guys are only 10/30 dollars, while that isn't a cheap price, it is in terms of figures that can move well

    • @MarcoMakesOfficial
      @MarcoMakesOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A: no not really, if you have a long enough tail it can have smaller feet. Also I proved with the rex and raptors that they can stand regardless even on 1 foot with smaller feet.
      B: how can you tell they look weird when no one has made one physically? I can guarantee that it will not look weird. I will prove it with a physical example.
      C: mattel have made teeth with softer plastic and rubber which doesn't shatter. The material they're currently using is totally suitable and shatterproof. They can make thinner teeth just like they already have done for the mainline baryonyx.
      D: the sculpt detail accuracy does not affect the price of a figure. However smaller feet can actually be cheaper as there's less material. Also removing superfluous articulation (like the swivelling hips) can make production cheaper but still retain excellent articulation and poseability.

    • @dontforgetthedodo4248
      @dontforgetthedodo4248 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Marco Makes A: while tail size isn't truly a large factor, feet size is due to surface area. Unless you want a base and a stand for your figures that are meant to be both collectors' items AND toys, that's how it will stay. Not to mention your not going to want to keep an articulated figure in a single pose so it can stand up. Stopmotion animators, figure photographers, kid who play with these, and normal people who fiddle with them want it to be able to stand in a plethora of poses without the hassle of moving the legs and limbs bit by bit to find a balance that will end up with the figure falling at the slightest of bumps or shakes
      B: Your parasaur example looked weird, and there are better methods for keeping the cheeks like the method they use for the mouth membranes
      C: While the cannot break, they definitely can twist, turn, bend, etc
      D: SCULPT EFFECTS PRICE!!!
      You need to pay for higher quality molds, make sure the higher quality molds actually print out every detail, and get somebody to make a higher quality AND functional figure that still has its use for kids, teens, and man children
      Edit for D: Not to mention that articulation makes it more expensive because you need people or machines to attach the joints and the smaller feet will be such a small change that it literally means nothing

    • @MarcoMakesOfficial
      @MarcoMakesOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just can't take anyone seriously if they don't know the difference between mould and sculpt. Also it's so funny you're trying to teach me how toys and models are made when it's literally my job and I have a degree in it too.

    • @dontforgetthedodo4248
      @dontforgetthedodo4248 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Marco Makes I mix up sculpt and mold but my point still stands, the smaller feet are not possible unless you want a realy floppy and hard to pose figure or a figure with an ugly stand. I can understand the tail but smaller feel will make like 300 dollars more in total, considering the fact that reviews saying the figures can't stand well don't deter people

    Despite referencing and/or having access to the source material, it is clear the sculptors working on this line have not been paying enough attention to it. I don't know if that's just lack of time constraints causing things to get a quick glance over, or just a lack of care overall. Some of the proportion issues which plague the mainline (short tails, huge feet, goofy oversized teeth) should not have been carried over into this collectors line. I've been a lifelong fan of the franchise (born in '91), so these types of mistakes are inexcusable for me. Edit: It's also rather unfortunate that this is the only option for highly articulated figures of the JP & JW animals out there. I wish Neca or another company got the license for this particular line of collector figures. I have their American Werewolf figure and the sculptor over there did a fantastic job capturing the likeness of the source material, for example.
    There's a few other issues with the Parasaurolophus. The hands also have the incorrect number of digits, like the feet, which is both inaccurate to the original SWS source material, and the real animal. The coloration is also derived from the JW film version, and not the original TLW version, despite being marketed as such (the Gallimimus is similar in this regard, but based off of the JW viral website design, completely different from the JW film, or the JP version it is marketed as).
    I know these haven't technically released yet, and will probably be addressed in a future video, but I'm bummed the new JPIII Ankylosaurus doesn't have the leg markings, or painted claws (probably a budget cut for the tail articulation), and sculpt is based on the JW version. The Geosternbergia is missing the pycnofibers/fluff, a major detail that was ignored, which the original SWS source had. The Pachycephalosaurus has markings that are just blobs of paint thrown on, are the wrong color, and also don't resemble the SWS source material at all. The JPIII female raptor could probably use some work based on the promo pics, but I also want to wait for in hand samples to get a better idea. I think the Concavenator and JPIII male raptor is the best of the new batch, although the latter still suffers from the huge feet. Edit: Just saw a review on the HC JPIII male raptor, and it is terrible to put it bluntly. They had a decent head sculpt with the Legacy one, and they somehow made an even worse, inaccurate sculpt. Paint apps are terrible too. Canceled my pre-order for it.

    No offense to Marco, he’s very talented, but every time a new Hammond Collection figure is announced, at least a good 80% of his Facebook stories are just whining about it. Like my brother in Christ, they are $10-$20 Mattel toys and you are an adult man, it’s really not that big a deal. And the exaggeration of the figures’ negative features in the thumbnail is beyond cringe and comes off as extremely childish.
    I recall at one point he said Hasbro should have the license back as well, so I assume it’s just dinosaurs he collects? Because if not, then why in the name of God would he want that, has he SEEN what Marvel Legends fans have been going through lately? I implore him to actually look into the Marvel Legends line, then he’d see how good we actually have it compared to them.
