In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about another important figure in Indian History Jamshedji Tata. Born in 3 March 1839 Jamsetji (Jamshedji) Nusserwanji Tata was an Indian pioneer industrialist who founded the Tata Group, India's biggest conglomerate company. Named the greatest philanthropist of the last century by several polls and ranking lists, he also established the city of Jamshedpur. That was the foresight of the founder of a great Indian industrial group. Tata always worked for the people not for self. However there were many more businessman and business houses who simply became rich and rich by suppressing the rights of their workers. At that time this great person started a lot of welfare schemes for the workers. Indian business houses were limited with their temple, dharmshala and pyau (water huts) even today their service to the community by n large limited to these. How much feilds, houses and other properties of poor people they grabbed is unimaginable. But Tata group is really an adorable example to follow.

This is a long held myth. He was never thrown out. He was a big figure back then, people respected him. Read book #tatstories wherein it's been mentioned that the only reason why he went ahead with Taj hotel was because back then Mumbai had no 5star hotel. This has also been confirmed by the secretary. Though jamsethji never spoke in open about the same.
