I think everyone's more so just surprised that he didn't renegotiate his contract for that McGregor fight. It's a very common thing amongst the top dog fighters to renegotiate their contracts before every fight...and especially for PPV main events of that magnitude.

There are fighters on record (with proof of their purses online) saying the Conor fight(s) was by far the highest paying of their career. Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier for example. I'm pretty sure they still had fights left on their contract.
