      It was a nice hike and the view was outstanding. My boy complained a little about the steepness but the short distance helped save the day. Thanks so much for checking it out!

    Sure is an awesome overlook! I'd never heard of this place until now. Thanks for showing us!

      Thanks for watching, my friend! Yes it is a nice view from up on those rocks. I'm not surprised that you had not heard of this one. This place is well off the beaten path and few people visit that area. The Alleghany Highlands is probably the last unspoiled part of Virginia.

      This hike did have two real steep sections, one started right from the road just as we began the hike. Fortunately it was a very short distance, only about a mile one way up to the top. After seeing the view we forgot all about the grueling climb. Thanks for watching, my friend!

      This was a cool spot. I really liked the view. Man it was a steep climb but pretty short, only about a mile up one way. This spot had been on my radar for years but I’m not out that way usually except for our annual Moomaw trip, so finally got it worked in. Thanks for watching, my friend!

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is a pretty sweet view. I'm surprised there is any trail at all on this mountain. This is in a very remote and lightly trafficked part of Virginia. At the "trailhead" we had to park in the ditch, no where to really "park" and the trail obviously had not been maintained in a good while. It appeared somebody had left some cairns piled up at the recommend spot for leaving the trail and its not hard to find the rocks even without any trail. As long as you start in the right direction there is sort of no where else to go LOL! Thanks for watching, my friend!

    I agree with Kriz on the fact there was no trail out to that overlook point... Certainly with the look.. Awesome view!

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching, my friend! It is an awesome overlook and its really the only thing of any interest up there on this hill. It is surprising that the trail does not pass near it and there is no spur leading to it. On the other hand, it is also surprising that there is any trail at all in this area. It's a remote and very lightly used area and there are not that many good trails. Tons of great stuff to see and do off trail though if you know where to look 😉

    Thanks for showing this hike. You can find some good ones. I need to find a good place for an overnight hike on Labor Day weekend, that’s close to home and probably not crowded. Any ideas for me?

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for watching, my friend! This was a great hike with a nice view and very well off the beaten path. Mind kind of place! Hmm do I have any ideas for you? Hard to say where a good spot would be that wouldn't have a lot of people. I'm not sure exactly where you are but rough idea, you have probably already done most of the AT in your area. I've often been curious about that trail that runs along the ridge behind the Walker Mountain store/tower. I think its called the Walker Mountain Trail. It used to be the Appalachian Trail before getting rerouted. I have hiked a short distance from the country store and there were some cool rock formations within a quarter or half mile or so and some nice views towards the north. Not sure what is beyond that. Probably no water sources either since its ridge line. Could be a good hike though, I think its about 14 miles or so (don't quote me) and I think it connects with the AT (also don't quote me, I don't have map in hand). If you had somebody to drop you off or pick you up, you could hike from the country store towards the AT, then take the AT north up to Hwy 42. There is another trail I have always been real curious about but as yet I have not checked it out for myself. I think its called Roaring Fork or something like that. If memory serves its about a 3 mile linear trail that leads towards a creek in the Beartown Wilderness Area. I have no idea what that trail is like or if there is anything to see. I think it can connect with the Chestnut Ridge Trail but not certain. Check out the map and see if looks interesting or if you can loop with some other trails.

      @@SmellNRoses I'm very familiar with walker MTN trail, I used to live within 2 miles of it. I'm not familiar with the one at Beartown wilderness. I will look at the map. I guess I'm leaning towards going the direction of TN since I have fine all the stuff within an hour of home.

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aww man it was a steep climb but fortunately it was very short, just over a mile one way to top. I'm sure you could make it. Not sure if you know it or not, but you are an inspiration to many of us. Hope to still be getting out there and adventuring later on. Thanks for watching, my friend!
