    Hey Ross, I've been watching your videos for awhile now. I'm not even sure how I came across them as I'm not that knowledgeable in the field but I found them funny and interesting. Purely for entertainment I guess? Now that I actually have a problem I figured I could ask if you could possibly show a video on the tear down of a magsafe 2 power adapter and how it works? I've started having problems now that mine is worn out and I really dont feel like forking out a bunch of money that I don't have if I can just go the DIY route. I just wanted to understand how it works before hand so I don't catch my MacBook air and/or apartment on fire. Or if you've already done something like this could you point me in the right direction? thanks man
    keep the videos coming and keep being you.

    Hi i do not understand why you take an additional resistor from an old board. Could you explain that to me? You have certainly taught it but I do not realize why you solder it there. Greetings Dirk from Germany

    I'd say to build an an even richer library of videos, you could mention model numbers for your major distinct repair videos. I'd also say most videos could benefit from model numbers of distinct or unique tools.
    Good stuff, man.

    One question. So I replaced my cable on a Mag safe 2 60w charger. And turns out the cable i replaced is for an 85w charger. So now my Mac displays in the system report as an 85w charger. When the charger is actually a 60w.
    Does this mean my charger now supplies 85w? Or will it supply 60w regardless of that my mac detects it now as an 85W Charger? Does the onewire circuit also regulates the wattage?
    I'm scared the charger will fry my Macbook.
    My Macbook is Early 2015 13inch.

    Hi, I am trying to learn from your videos but I presume this method is not the same for a MacBook air 820-3208-A as the schematic is different. I have one with no orange or green light. I also have no PP3V42_G3H_P3v42g3h Yet I do have PPVin-G3H_reg. PP3V42_G3H_Reg appears to be direct short to ground. Removed L6995 to isolate U6990 but still a short.Any help much appreciated

    Hi, my girlfrien spilled water on her iBook G4 (2005) power adapter. Of course the pc is not turning on any more ( green light). When i connect the cable on the power adapter "cube" and the the cable on the notebook, the green light blinks once and then nothing. If I use a multimeter to verify the voltage from the power adapter, it reads 24V as specification and the green light turns on, but again as soon as I plug it on the notebook it blinks once and then turn off. What could I try? ( I live in Italy, not easy to find guys like you here). Thank you.

    I think your OCD is just wanting to do a good job, actual OCD means turning on light switches in the "correct order", making sure carpet is going the right direction, and other compulsions that have no logical benefit.
    The benefit of you doing a good job when you don't need to is sometimes people notice and some of those people will remember you, you've also featured hack-fuck terrible repairs others have done and I suspect you probably don't want to be That-guy if someone else looks at your repair.
    I'm Zen and the art of motherboard repair over here, kek.

    Isn’t a zero ohm resistor just a wire, why is he going to such effort to replace basically a wire

  • @joshuafowler3089
    @joshuafowler3089 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've got an 820-2915 (Yeah, I know, it's for practice) that has no green light. PP3v42_G3H is present, as is the main 16v rail. I'm missing SMC_BC_ACOK. I've replaced U7000 with no luck (got a green light once right after the replace, then not since) and I can't find any obvious shorts. I've tried injecting 3.2v directly at u6901 which gives me 3.42v on the sys_onewire circuit but still doesn't give me a green light. What's strange is that while I'm injecting the 3.2v, I can hear a very, very faint clicking from somewhere on the board, about 3 clicks a second, that goes away when I stop injecting. Also, on my multimeter, I'm seeing the voltage from the one-wire circuit fluctuate from 3.425 to 3.235 and back in a common cycle. I don't have access to an oscilloscope as of now to check the inductor, L7030. Any tips on where to look next, or to focus in on?

      +Kevin Gill Make sure PP3V42_G3H is going to the DC in board via the flex cable. If it is and no light, try new DC in board. There is no onewire circuit on the actual motherboard.

    Anyone know WITF my magsafes keep dying? Used six in 1 year. Don't own an Apple product, and never use it (magsafe). Stays plugged in and about 12 times a year I use it to see if water damaged boards are good after ultrasonic. Get some dead boards and think they might be killing my magsafes? That possible? Probably the F outlets?

    Hello, i am working on a 820-2936 board that works fine except no green light and not charging the battery.SMC_BC_ACOK is 0.58V after measuring pins of U6901 i got :
    pin 1 and 2 : 0.58 V
    pin 3 : 0 V
    pin 4 : 0 V
    pin 5 :3,46 V
    ISL6259 is getting 4 V on pin 3 (CHGR_ACIN)but not sending the 3.4 V in pin 14 ( CHRG_ACOK ) so i taught is ISL 6259 is bad .but the weird thing is this : if i connect one multimeter probe to ground and the other one to pin 2 of U6901 ( diode mode only) i get green light and the battery is charging fine . My question is this: If i solder a tiny wire from pin 2 of pin U6901 to ground would it fix the problem ????

    • @rossmanngroup
      @rossmanngroup  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no. also if you are making any diode mode or resistance measurements with power going through the board you have to learn how to use a multimeter.

      Thank you for your replay .i know it is not logical but it works i want to know why ?? i was measuring continuity between pin 3 and ground but by accident touched pin 2 of U6901 and the green light turned on .
