I suggest for everyone who's trying to learn to draw faces to start out with trying to draw a realistic face. All cartoonish styles are somehow based on realism, so learning how it works for real humans would help. Personally I'm not good at it, but I did try it. I now mostly draw manga, but I do still keep the things I learnt from drawing realistic in mind :)
PurpleSimz So trueeee I draw aswell and the first time I tried to draw it was terrible!!But I guess I never realized that since I was noob at drawing before, and then I gkt into realism for a while and now Ive improved mich better😊
- Ikarus - , you could try angleing the face or make the chin wider or slime. Or even made a wide jaw or try different facial ratios. I got my style by drawing bigger noses like you see in those newer Disney movies like Coco
I’ve been drawing for about 7 years, and I recommend drawing a mixture of cartoony and realistic pictures it really helps you. Also try spend an hour a day on a drawing that’s what I usually do. ☺️
Although we share the same name we are totally difft when it comes to drawing..I just started drawing and I love it . .... not to good but also not that bad .. Now I don't know why even said these things😑😑😇

@@Daisy-hj6jy thanks, I used to draw 3 hours a day for 2 or so months and my drawing sucked ass the whole way. Yesterday I decided to give it another try and decided to draw an hour a day for at least an year. If I see worthwhile improvement, I'll keep drawing.
Great finding your channel! Have drawn for years, mostly photo-realism and never humans. Got super bored with that and decided to teach myself how to draw whimsical girls. I've had a lot of fun with that theme for a couple of years now, but just felt I wanted to give my girls a bit more realism but maintain that air of whimsy. That's where your work comes in. Your style is the perfect learning epicenter for me and the style of artwork that I'm shooting for. I've watched many of your vids now, and appreciate the growth and progression I've observed. I like your humbleness toward your progression. I suppose you realize, as have I, that if you stop learning and growing...you stagnate and stay stuck! Thanks for all your great insight and for sharing your techniques! Most appreciated!
I really need to listen to 3, because I wanna draw more so I need to take my new mini sketchbook with me when I go places. On another note, I completely agree about the negativity. Nobody needs that, nobody needs to be told they can't do something. I had an art teacher who did this. She would tell me I couldn't do an advanced drawing because it was too hard, but she didn't know that I had already drawn such things before. I like to try new things, and so I did that. I proved her wrong. I've been drawing since I was little, and it's something I love to do. I dropped out of drawing class though because I realized I hate being told what to draw. It wasn't that they taught us techniques, but moreso she told us exactly what to draw, and I hated that. I've been learning on my own since. That was 4 years ago. I also hated that she was making me fill my sketchbook with drawings I hated. I had no motivation to draw them (since I was told what to draw and not given free range), and they sucked. I also hated that she would set a due date, then postpone the due date every single time. Yet I always had mine finished by the due date, and it wasn't fair that I got the same grade while everyone else go more time for slacking off. Anyway, enough of my rambling. Great tips, thank you! I do wanna work on faces..
My art teacher also told us what to draw and it would be the most sucky things. I would have zero enthusiasm- be the subject hard or easy. I just felt no incentive to draw the things he MADE us draw as a class :-( I took what I could learn from the class but did a lot of drawing on my own free time instead of relying on my boring art class to meet my needs. I HEAR YOU ! You need to at least feel some affinity to the subject you are trying to create- be it as a newbie or pro.
if you want realistic, get rid of out line. I have done 3 portraits and I think you can get really realistic without out line. draw the face with pencil and erase it a little then start colouring.
Adore listening to your voice I need a big push I’ve had art block for years loved art in high school now a grandma I keep watching TH-cam videos of artists in TH-cam it relaxes me thank you.. it’s a dream of mine to draw again to get that confidence that I see in you and other artists here on TH-cam it’s never to early or late to draw create I have to convince myself I NEED TO DO IT...

You're almost at 20k subs! I remember subbing when you were around 8k and then all of a sudden you were gaining like 2k from people watching your livestreams 😂 That was kinda crazy. But anyways, I think you improved a lot with drawing faces and proportions since I first watched your videos! Even though you say you're still looking for you art style, I can definitely see some personality in your art that's different from a lot of artists and it's great 😊
What sort of style would this be called? Illustration? I try so hard to practice but end up spending too much time watching my fave you tubers! ❣️🇦🇺 thanks for taking the time out of your life to share your talent ❣️🇦🇺
I wholeheartedly agree that you have to hone your skills with observational practice before you can create from your imagination effectively. Think of Picasso and you probably think of his abstract/cubist pieces like "the weeping woman", but look at his other works and you'll see highly skilled, analytical, observational pieces that allow and inform his more iconic stylized work.
i used a mechanical pencil for 3 years but it just felt wrong so i went back to a normal pencil and i dont really mind having to sharpen the pencil, i just feel more comfy using a normal pencil so i can have the pressure of the pencil as a thing, idk if anyone understands me but you can kind of put more pressure to the normal pencil where as if you press too hard on the mechanical pencil it breaks.
So I'm going to buy those three; graphite, mechanical, and fineliner. Graphite is for rough or darker sketches, mechanical for soft sketches and fineliner for inking or just ink sketches am I right? Lol I'm new to these things I usually use whatever pencil I have just to draw
I don't see a problem with reference photo... that's how you build your imagination... if you don't look around/look at photos (which is the same), you can't build your imagination/your vision
My 2017 challenge is to get better at realism and animals, there is improvement because I always elongate and change the view of whatever I draw thus I thought to do this challenge as I want to get a degree in art and go to art school
She's using Copic markers. But, if you're a beginner I wouldn't really recommend them because they cost around $6 EACH. I'd recommend starting out with cheaper alcohol-based markers and then, as your art gets better, upgrading to these. But, if you have money to spare, I'd definitely recommend Copic markers. I've never used them myself but I've seen a lot of arttubers use them and they are very easy to blend and are... just REALLY GOOD overall. Hope this helps!
I don't get it when people say using references is cheating. Dude if you wanna draw something but you can't actually draw it then what ? You take a reference from life or a photo and practice... without necessarily trying to copy it exactly but yeah this is not cheating. Unless you're a genius 😀 Then imagination come after practice. Good video though :)

I suggest drawing less of the typical attractive faces. For example a weathered fisherman. Or elderly woman.
