    This is our first review of the Volkswagen Golf facelift as 2024 VW Golf GTI. It also features now Chat GPT AI voice control. The bigger 13" infotainment screen that is required for the Chat GPT use is standard for Golf style, R-Line, GTI and R.

      They dropped the manual because of Euro 7 but now that has been delayed but we still won't get a manual transmission. The most painful part is America was never even at risk of getting Euro 7 and around half of Golfs sold here had buyers opt for the manual...so not even offering it for us is a big mistake. I predict sales to decline significantly in the U.S.A. because of this. I would never buy an automatic one.

    As a Mk8 GTI owner, I was honestly hoping for a more radical facelift this time around. The exterior updates are fine, but considering how negatively the Mk8 interior has been received, this car needed more of a clean sheet update for the dash. I would have liked to have seen rotary controls re-appear on the dash for the climate control. The new Skodas have these. Why VW didn't see fit to use something similarly desirable on something as important to them as the Golf, is beyond me. For a car like the Mk7 Golf, which was universally liked, a subtle facelift was fine. But for the Mk8, the revisions needed to lead to a home run car.

I will be expecting this new generation infotainment, but I doubt it will get the smart dials from the Superb and Kodiaq despite how similar the interiors are. I think aside from the newer larger infotainment the Octavia will get some new material options and the matte chrome accents.

    It's great to see the physical wheel buttons returning, and honestly I quite like VWs new infotainment system. VW has really been listening to feedback. As a 2023 golf 8 R owner there is really one big problem and that was the capacitive button to open the sunroof. Its bugged 30 percent of the time, does the wrong thing 20 percent of the time, its hard to hit 20 percent of the time and actually only works good 30 percent of the time. of course they did not change that

    • @amirdiabe
      @amirdiabe ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I own a MK8 Golf 2022 with a sunroof, I prefer the capacitive buttons, their more intuitive to use. I don’t find them any harder to use than actual buttons. In terms of the roof, to fully open slide from front to back. If you want to partially open slide from front to back, then just tap in the middle of the slider once to stop the roof opening where desired. To have the sunroof just tilt open touch the slider on the bottom/back end. At first, I found it fiddly, but it’s actually really easy to use and works as intended. The only time it may miss-read your input, is if when you tap to stop the roof sliding, your finger inadvertently slides, then it may re-open/re-close the sunroof, but that’s not really the cars fault, it’s just you didn’t have a steady hand, and what you inputted in the car was not what you intended to do.

    • @deniznarli2535
      @deniznarli2535 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amirdiabe i know how the sunroof works. But tring to slide your finger while driving instead of pushing a button you can feel isx5 as hard. Also alot of the time it doesnt register your input or is bugged and you ahve to wait like 30 sec before it funtions again. Buttons on the steering wheel on the other hand i have no issues with at all.

Need them to be reliable and functional, safe, durable, comfy. Need better seats than majority makes nowdays in non premium cars, need good modern headlights cause of functionality at night, usable boot space, durable and flexible engine that is useful in majority of cases and suitable for all occasions. Buttons on steering wheel and for a/c. Decent sound system, good handling, NVH characteristics etc etc. Could go on for days and would never ever think of AI. I remember golf since mk2 pre redesign. I even remember mk1 gti from back then. Then mk3 vr6 came along with corrado. mk4 was meh but in time peoven better than mk3 etc. We all know why golf became popular and no AI aproach if that what we need. The only thing the mk8 needed was a slightly better working infotainment system & less piano black. It did NOT need a giant screen. It did not need weird scrunched up exterior lighting.
    And, despite this reviewer’s constant silly harping on capacitive buttons, they’re perfectly fine.
    Funny that’s been his entire focus, but he loves giant, ugly, screens that look like a cheep tv.
    It’s beyond weird.

    The physical buttons on the steering wheel are definitely the most welcome change and I assume this will apply to Seat/Cupra Leon and Skoda Octavia as well. Also, the power window controls seem to be back to the earlier system from the craziness of a switch to select between front and rear windows first. A good example of "don't fix it if it is not broken".

  • @kratos9223
    @kratos9223 ปีที่แล้ว

    FYI, that's a GTI Clubsport, so expect a different front bumper, rear diffuser, and wing, as well as different wheels, of course, for the normal GTI.

    Does the AI for the vehicle works without ChatGPT connection? I assume ChatGPT requires a network connection, which I am not a fan off, let along allow AI to control the car, that can be kind of scary. So, if you don't get a network connection, do you lose the AI portion that controls the vehicle and gives you navigation?
