    I mainly paint and collect, so I LOVE a hybrid list. It lets me play with a little bit of everything I paint. I do notice that I am super screwed once all I have left are my infantry. I've definitely had better luck with tank lists this edition.

      I've been using Infantry with DKoK Marshall and a platoon command squad w/ HWT that matches the Infantry squad's. swap out the Medic for a standard bearer. they're great for objectives. your opponents won't be expecting 3 oc (4 with orders) per guy. plus, you can toss out an order to supporting sentinels/HWTs

      I’ve found that putting the little infantry I have (20-40) in chimeras is the way to go, you essentially skew into an armored list while still having the oc up your sleeve at a moment’s notice
      Also totally with you that it’s by far the most aesthetically appealing army style since you get to field all the iconic units and use them in a coordinated effort like they would in setting

    I ran 98% infantry (couple of sentinels) in college as a skew because everyone else at the store had so much anti vehicle damage I just gave up trying to use tanks haha.

      That is a legitimate second/third best list to hybrid but unfortunately it gets giga hard countered by the very common lists that have a surplus of units with blast weapons
      Also armor is the strongest part of guard because it’s not only hard to kill per point but has the ability to actually kill just about anything reliably at long range, something that the infantryman struggles with at the moment

    Love that you brought up tau in this video. Been trying to beat a really good tau player with hybrid guard. Last edition I was kicking his teeth in, but this one I can’t volley like I did before because of how cheap tau vehicles are ( specifically the hammerhead 😒)

      Have you tried Scout Sentinels with Lascannons and hunter killer missiles? For a 180 points you can have three such models that are also _regiment_ and can be brought back with reinforcements and their hunter killer missiles.

      I mean...last edition Guard was in a significantly better place than we are at present (at the very end especially) so the skill/math needed to run a list well wasn't quite as sharp a cliff, as it currently sits our situation is kind of one which makes the further you get from the meta the tougher things are going to get, which sucks when you have a style of play that you specifically enjoy (like a Mechanized Infantry list in my case) which maybe doesn't happen to be optimized at present...just gotta grin and bear it really, sooner or later our turn will come along again and the grass will get greener again

    Whilst hybrid guard has its benefits, I've become sold on pure infantry guard as when I fought chaos knights pre-nerf it was not the leman Russ which killed a knight, nor the armored sentinel, but it was the infantryman and his lasgun which had killed a knight in MELEE! I have started running hybrid guard more often though as recently it has come to my attention that taking 3 hours to get to the end of turn 2 isn't always ideal

    I just came back from my first game in my life for Astra Militarum(3xBattleline with Kriegs + tanks +Solar) against my friend for necrons 2000pts. The feeling of the game was weird. Everything I shot (when I hit) was blocked invulnerable save 4+ and feel no pain 5+ and my combat lines were doing their job and dying for the Emperor. So I said to myself that I'm screwed and started counting how much money I wasted for this game altogether 😆 Since it was my first game, it took a long time than with professional players. We finished in the second round. My friend started first and at the beginning of my 2nd round he says: OK, I messed something up in the first round and now it's your turn and since the time is up, the game is over after you and congratulations you won with a score of 16:6. And I'm in shock and I ask him wtf is going on, I'm getting crushed or stopped everywhere and have I won? Is it this often or the first steps into the world from which there is no return? 😅 Sry if miss topic iam just very weidrly pride on me atm. Glory to the mankind and God Emperor!!!

    Until we get our dex in 2 years…😢 hybrid guard will continue to be the most competitive version of the army that can be run
    Sadly the guard meta has pretty much been solved at this point as almost all of the 4-1/5-0 post balance lists look almost identical with a couple of minor deviations
    On the positive side you get to play with some of the most iconic guard units like basilisks, manticores, russ/dorns, a couple of chimeras fists, and some bullgryn to hold the middle… but you are pretty much required to bring Lord Solar and Guants Ghosts as well so get proxying if you don’t like hreo hammer spam

      I find the characters like Lord Solar are just too expensive and don't pay for themselves. I try to consider a damage output or boosting effect for most units to be included and characters like that are often bested by just raw numbers. A Lord Solar is basically for maximizing orders and the single CP. He's not going to contribute directly and so is that really the best use of points? You get enough blocks of troops and tanks and you're not only able to outshoot opponents but hold the objectives. Pick and choose where your orders go instead of just an expensive blanket effect that doesn't often pay off.

      @@ColonelHoganStalag13 Not to sound rude but quite literally every top 10th edition list disagrees with you on that, not a single one does not include him... the Solar blob is the ultimate force multiplier by letting you put order where you need them when you need them, guaranteeing max cp generation automatically, and last but certainly not least allowing you to play essential mindgames during deployment since you will almost always have more drops than you opponent
      Officers are honestly massively overpriced at the moment and he provides the greatest order density/flexibility naturally while also giving you these amazing additional benefits
      He gives you all of this flexibility while also being faster, tougher, and more killy than a space marine captain... He is the single easiest auto include decision in the entire army for a reason. If you want to skew into all infantry there is a legitimate reason to not include him but every other list benefits greatly from him

      ​@ColonelHoganStalag13 Lord Solar doesn't pay for himself? 5 extra cp alone would place that story out of court mathematically, used to bring back 2.5 20 man units of Infantry he's worth around 240 points just there, and that is before you add in his orders or the fact that as a model he probably has the best single damage of any non-tank/artillery unit in our inventory...by the numbers he's probably the single best datasheet available to us...

      @@johnhildenbrand2642 yeah he’s the undisputed single best unit in the army with Gaunt’s Ghosts at a close second… and between those two (and a solar blob) you have pretty much all the orders you’ll realistically need
      Tank commanders come in a close third and even synergize perfectly with Solar since they will shoot on death at 3+ and you can use them to effectively string out mechanized orders further than the 24” Solar range

      @@CatharsisChaser Lord Solar plus a 15 man blob, Gaunt's Ghosts and a tank commander is presently 555 points, I think the TC is a bit overpriced still, depending on what you are trying to do, the inclusion of a Castellan or two (or Commissar, Ursula Creed) can make up the difference, freeing up Lord Solar for tank orders and giving you a way to build lists that include less armor. I still think "tank commander" needs to be added as an enhancement instead of a whole datasheet

      Really? I wonder if perhaps you're not bringing enough fire power to bear and you're trying to engage them on their own terms with things like Bullgryns/Ogryns? The resident Custodes player in my shop dropped them after getting blown away too many times and has now gone full Eldar. You know you have demoralized your opponent when they drop playing a painted army to move to spending more money and time on a new project.

      Really ? just get some manticore and lore solar to buff them, beside get krieg and Scion to stole objective from them

      You might be right, I only have two Russ that could be an issue. :) I have tons of infantry! that seem todo absolutely nothing against them. @@ColonelHoganStalag13

    The rules want me to run 1 baneblade for a 500 point game, 2 baneblades for a 1000 point game, and 4 baneblades for a 2000 point game. It absolutely slaps and the most reliable thing to run.
    Everything else just misses half the time or gets inv saved and fnp saved out. Too much rolling, not a lot happening.

    I’m liking a slight infantry skew to my guard. I’m trying to take 2-3 sources of indirect, 3 tanks and the rest infantry. Most people don’t seem to have the volume to clear 100 infantry pushing up with reinforcements and kriegers being kriegers. I think 100 infantry is the minimum for a hybrid force unless you’ve got squads in chimeras then I count each chimeras as 10 guardsmen

    I don't really agree that hybrig guard is a resilient type of army. If your army is made of many different parts that are all dependant on eachother, then the more parts you had, the easier it is for someone to single out what's bothering them the most and to get rid of it.
    For example, it's not that difficult to get rid of 2 russes per turn. But if you want to afford the rest of your balanced army, you can't afford more than 2 or 3 of them. And if you count on them to deal most of the damage, you could loose your ability to inflict significant ammounts of damage in a single swoop. Without the threat of taking damage, your opponent may also come to win the movement game, because the options in which units could survive a certain move would be more numerous, lines of sight would be easier to get etc.
    And this goes for every single part of your army that are fairly brittle on their own because you didn't invested a bunch of points on them.
    In my experience, it's the single most difficult way to play guard because of this. It's really easy for your opponent to cripple you and you often have to make up backup strategies on the fly to salvage the situation. It's hella fun to play tho.

      I only had success when i run mechanised infantery or spam tank
      You just kill everything

    Sorry to say it, but hybrid lists imho are the weakest kind. Jack of all trades, master of none, that's it. They are really good looking on the tabletop but they are not the best. Guards list which recently positioned themselves quite good at big events are mainy composed of tanks and a pair of chimera transported catachans (to extend scout rule to the vehicle). Damage output to kill the opponent is the very way to go if you want to win a game. Only infantry list is interesting but really depends on your local meta: where i play for example, nobody brings armies who just focus on killing one type of targets. Generally players here prefer some antitank weapons and many anti heavy infantry/blast weapons to get rid of terminators as well as cultists but can be used also to kill vehicles. So it's a really difficult environment to play hybrid guard lists. But it's just where i play. I'm italian and we have a different way of listing and play the game, probably americans and english players are much more different in style of playing.

      The list archetype you mentioned is hybrid guard at the end of the day :) It runs a healthy mixture of artillery, tanks, officer support, and a bit of infantry
      it's just very light on the infantry aspect (and mechanizes it) since it is by far the weakest link of the army right now
      And I completely agree with your assessment about infantry skews, they seem like a good idea until you run into an aggressor squad that kills 2-4 squads a round easily

      In my meta infantry skew is much better because everyone is running eldar tanks and wraith stuff, chaos knights or dreadnought spam. Not many people have more firepower then an intercessor squad other then other guard lists. It’s interesting how different it is

      @@Josh-zd9pq i think is because we aren't many people that plays 40k in north Italy (or Italy in general) and we don't "trade Pieces". Generally people here use very thought units and Is always much more conservative regarding their units, even the cheapest ones

      @@alessiogiuffrida6172 it makes sense. Personally I will happily trade a squad for my opponents more valuable squad or for points. I usually trade a 20 man infantry squad for a massive damage dealer. Being more conservative seems interesting though to be fair. I might give it a go
