They managed that the color palette of a rusty army tank looks not that bad.

Thank you for the technicolor footage of Goldiggers of Broadway (as much of it, anyway). Enjoyed Nick Lucas on guitar singing his signature hit, Tiptoe through the Tulips (before Tiny Tim, of course) and Winnie Lightner's comedic take on the Statue of Liberty in the dressing room, along with the finale dance scene. Wonderful.

The very last dancer before the screen goes dark is actor George Raft, then best known as a nightclub performer famous for his 'lighting fast Charleston'. Here's a clip from another 1929 movie, 'Side Street' where he does a variation of it. th-cam.com/video/lhuCC-x5DTM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_9P3kMAvTvJht-sj

Such a shame no one saved all of the footage; The performers were dedicated.

A good portion got destroyed in storage by a fire. Luckily they were able to recover some good points!

Love this! Thanks SO much for sharing this treasure...😌 I've only seen the Gold Diggers of 1933 what a treat to see the one from '29! And it's always a treat by itself to hear Nick Lucas crooning and strumming.😚

Loved this! So much talent. Male 'hoofers' had to be acrobats as well. Amazing. Thank you 😊

When i was a teenager in the latter 1960s, CBS showed these old musicals every Sat afternoon. I enjoyed watching them. Now companies have bought them and charge us money to watch them. What a horrible country we live in!

All silent movies are in the public domain now, including the first "talkie" _The Jazz Singer_ (1927).

Just saw a woman on a train platform holding a bunch of flowers ridiculously high above her head and couldn't help but think of the Spirit of Liberty and Progress of Some darn thing or other over here....

Wow, that's a high bar to meet! My best pre-code is Joan and Etta in the incredibly moving final scene of GD of 1933. Hard to find a full clip that runs the full time, it's so amazing to see what Busbee did. Sad that most kids growing up today will never appreciate any of these people!

Winnie Lightner who muffs her lines at the end was married to the director Roy Del Ruth. This was also the most popular color motion picture until "Gone With the Wind" ten years later.

Talk about overdoing it, there are so many people on stage you're afraid the floor will collapse.

    • @ianpeddle6818

Early sound films were trying to recreate what was seen on Broadway that’s why the stage is very busy. More entertaining than most modern shite though

@@ianpeddle6818 They’re emulating Ziegfeld. He’d have his “American Beauties” walking back & forth on the stage behind the other performers, sometimes to the intense irritation of those performers, if you’ve ever read anything about WC Fields. So you see it a lot in these very early musicals.
