    I've nothing against Subarus, I think they're great cars if you need to get up to the cabin or the ski resort in the snow. But watching that white 4Runner walk right up the same place where that Subaru struggled so hard perfectly illustrates the concept of having the right tool for the job.

      There were 3 Subarus, and @shabba is correct, Leo took a bad line. Let’s not be rough on him, we all make mistakes here and there. He’s an experienced driver and you’ll see him exhibit his skill in the next video.
      There’s no doubt, the 4runner is in a different bracket when it comes to off-road capability compared to any AWD, but the same will be said about onroad handling and efficiency. I think it really comes down to what’s more important to the driver. As the future unfolds, it’s exciting to see AWDs become more capable and 4WDs become more sporty and efficient.

      @@JonDZ_Adventuring that's a good point, it's true that both vehicles have trade-offs in either direction. I guess it's all about getting out there and having fun, and finding the limits of your vehicle. My apologies to Leo, I wasn't trying to call him out specifically. That's actually more rugged terrain than I've ever had my 4Runner on. Living in the Northeast, there's not a lot of opportunities for that. I definitely live on the wrong coast, hahaha.

      I’ve been wanting to do this trail ever since I saw @daklakfoto and @foresteradventures do it. This trip was a long time in the making. Compared to where you have going, this trail is right up your alley, especially with your new lift. We were able to get a 4th and 5th Gen 2.5 Outback and a 6th Gen XT through. I’m totally down for a river run 😄. I’d definitely do the trail again. I think you would find it well within your comfort zone.

      @@JonDZ_Adventuring Your videos are so inspiring! Now I'm really considering a Passport with a 2" lift and A/T tires instead of a 4runner to match my expected 93% road driving needs. I won't build a rig as capable as yours, but def want something for the more intermediate trails her6 in North Georgia.
      You mention that you would have an update on the quick disconnect sway bar links. I didn't see anything in your other videos yet. Do you have any thoughts on this to share?
      Thanks again for the awesome vids and the invitation to get out there!

    • @JonDZ_Adventuring
      @JonDZ_Adventuring  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words Bad-Ass-Dad 🙏. So, the quick disconnect sway bars didn’t end up working out. I have reason to believe that without the front sway bar, the axles may have been angled out of its effective torque range. It seemed like something was binding up. I’d get what seemed to be “transmission speed stall” which is uncharacteristic for the Passport with the ZF9. With more throttle, the revs would increase with no progress up until 3500 RPMs, which at that point there would be a sudden explosion of torque. I could be wrong, but it seemed like binding. It might be the sway bar hitting something, I’m not totally sure.
      Since I’ve been able to get to complete trails like Fins N Things and Imogene pass with the sway bars connected, I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t need to mess with my front sway bars. Now, my rear sway bar is deleted, so I get some extra flex from that.
      Good luck on your vehicle choice. It’s a tough decision. While the 4runner is really outdated, a new one should be on the horizon. They just announced the Toyota Sequoia! The 4runner is soon to follow. If the ride quality is improved, a brand new 4runner makes a compelling choice.

      @wgfurman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonDZ_Adventuring That advice about the 6th gen 4runner is very good. I would love a better balance between on and off road. Hopefully Toyota doesn't price that out of the ballpark. I'll keep an eye out after the release for your take on it. Thanks again for the great vids and info!

      Kevin, the guy in the White 4runner would remind us of that, but I am glad all the multiple spotters were on the same page. With the Subaru stuck on the step, it was good to have two vantage points. We weren’t expecting him turn passenger all of a sudden, and in this case, it’s was a damn good thing I was there to counter spot. In my opinion of course.

    I have a 2021 Sport with a 3" factory lift running 265/60R18 all terrains installed from the dealer. I am having an overly sensitive steering experience to the point that the car is very darty and unstable, almost uncontrollable at highway speeds. Now with icy roads it's hard to even keep it on the road. Has anyone had any experiences along this line? Is the steering sensitivity adjustable do lower the sensitivity at highway speeds? TIA

    • @JonDZ_Adventuring
      @JonDZ_Adventuring  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yikes! The Hondas don’t come with a 3 inch lift from the factory, so is that a dealer Installed lift kit? Do you know who made it? I personally run a Traxda lift kit and to my knowledge it’s the only kit with front camber adjustment. Also, I’d like to know how that 3 inch kit was accomplished. Was there a subframe drop to bring the angle of the axles and driveshaft within spec? If there’s no subframe drop then that’s a super sketchy setup. Traxda 3.5” lifted midsized Hondas handle very close to OEM.

    • @stevegreene4880
      @stevegreene4880 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonDZ_Adventuring This is a vaguely described, dealer installed "Adventure Series Suspension Kit" including a 3" suspension lift system, wheels and tires. I don't know the name of the suspension system but from my inspection it is a coil over top spacer with no subframe drop. As an avid full-size 4x4 off roader as well as Polaris Rzr's trailer rider, I do recognize the issues associated with improper lifts affecting CV axle angles and steering geometry. I am unsure of how to rectify this hyper sensitive steering control that worsens at highway speeds. I know many autos and newer side by sides have electronic steering control that is designed to be sensitive at slower speed for maneuverability and greater driver feedback but then is electronically dampened to lower sensitivity at higher driving speeds to help minimize over correction and dartiness in the steering. I hoped someone had feed back on if these Passports have that adjustability feature. After 5,000 miles, In the current state, I do not feel safe allowing my wife and child to continue to use this Passport for commuting duty. Thus I reach out for community feed back thru you as I recognize you are one of the most knowledgeable Honda Passport contributors I can find on YT. Thank you again.
