As a musician, the innovative nature of this song can't be overstated. Run DMC and Aerosmith get all the credit for the first Hip Hop & Rock collaboration, but this predates them by a couple of years. Moreover, unlike "Walk This Way", this song actually says something. Don't get me wrong, I really dig what they did, but this work is far more important...and just as lyrically valid today.
I had this as a 7" at 13 year old. And your comment makes me think of the Judgement Night OST, 9 years later. That took the hip-hop/rock crossovers to the next level...
@@Farmfield Living Colour and Run DMC, Slayer and Ice T, Pearl Jam and Cypress Hill...some crazy collaborations on that album, resulting in some HOT tracks! Good call!
Been looking for this song for a looong time, wasn't until a couple years ago on New Years Day i was testing out a buddies new home theater I was watching the Sopranos and CRANKED up this song when I heard it. Marantz audio never sounded better
Man this tune is so bad ass love the mix of Bambaataa and Lydon - a dear friend gave me a cd of African Bambaataa - a basic mishmash of sound and it is to this day one of the most treasured in my collection of music
I remember seeing the lyrics to this song on the wall of Tynemouth Metro Station - in big bold letters. The best graffiti I have ever seen. This song is as hard hitting now as seeing the graffiti back in the 80s.
I thought this was great. Used to love hearing it regularly in the Crypt in Hastings in the 80s. Can't understand people who slag it off. Think also of Planet Rock (Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force) and Open Up (Lydon and Leftfield). Three collaborations and between the four artists you've probably got some of the biggest influences we've seen in music in the last 35 years...... Punk, New Wave, Alternative Rock, Indie Rock, Hip Hop, Techno, Electro, House, Breakbeat and much more between the four of them!!!!
Omniphon- yes-yes-yes ! Youre right. I heart this song on John Peels Radio Show ages ago - and never find it in a record store! Later a hype about "Walk this way" etc. began and nearly everyone forgot this jewell.
i discovery this music because of the opening of mr robot season one before shayla's death. And the lyrics are pure true, the rich get richer and the poor getting poorer, especially here in brazil.
Pure classic! Never thought to look up the video-Don't remember seeing this on MTV or the like - Always been satisfied with hearing it on the radio (when it was out) and on my record player. But what a pleasant surprise! Thanks for putting it up:)
World Destruction is truly a brilliant and so far, a timeless song. For another gem in the same vein, see 'Ball of Confusion' covered by Love and Rockets.
Love this song and been missing the video. Tyvm for posting. Would love to find the alternate version they supposedly recorded; Afrika said Johnny "cussed the Queen something awful."
I remember seeing this on MTV once, about 20 years ago. Never heard it since. Just knew it was the singer of Sex Pistols and an awesome song. It's great seeing/hearing it again and it certinly don't disappoint! :D
Italians are not a race -- they're a nationality. So perhaps, he is a nationalist. I don't agree with his statement at all, but I don't think Lydon is a racist, not even close.
Fuckin hell!!! I cant belive what I have just seen here!! John Lydon was so good as the Pistols front man but this is fuckin pathetic, is it a joke?????

What a wonderfully powerful pair.
Years and years before it's time. Fantastic. And it could have been written for 2023. Very underrated, unfortunately, but I love it.
Listening in May 2020
Just because it’s a great song
Be safe and healthy all☮️

Just like economics and social strife is returning to the 70s , nuclear fears feel like 1983 right now
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Welcome to 2020 +2 and the cold war version 2.0.
I remember seeing the lyrics to this song on the wall of Tynemouth Metro Station - in big bold letters. The best graffiti I have ever seen. This song is as hard hitting now as seeing the graffiti back in the 80s.
"This is the world destruction / Your life ain't nothing..." As we've seen in New Orleans and Iraq, Afrika and John had it right.

Listening to Reagan's demented babbling is frightening in retrospect.
I lived through that shit, forgot how off the rockers he was. It's eerie how similar Reagan and Trump are all things considered.
lmfao
Actually, you could interpret it either way..
Carole King anyone?
Italians are not a race -- they're a nationality. So perhaps, he is a nationalist. I don't agree with his statement at all, but I don't think Lydon is a racist, not even close.
Did Bill O'Reilly teach you to say that? Think for yourself -- if you can, tool.
Fuckin hell!!! I cant belive what I have just seen here!! John Lydon was so good as the Pistols front man but this is fuckin pathetic, is it a joke?????
a better team up is lydon with leftfield, open up. this has too much of a run dmc feel really for lydon.
