I remember being reaĺly impressed by this class of locomotive in 1973 (Inter-rail was great!) travelling down the Rhine valley. The Rheingold Express was really something especially when they remarshalled it at Duisberg. Another very good video Jim - thank you.
Beautiful! I have the same Roco lok, but pre-DCC, and I converted it about 10 years ago. Runs beautifully, but, no sound and No Camera! Camera is great!!!
It's a great item as you can see the layout as its never been seen before in real time, i just wish it had cameras at both ends & brighter led cab lights so it would light up the tunnels so i can find any traction tires that have been lost..lol...jim
It’s not a steering wheel it’s used to slowly increase the locomotives speed in small increments. I’ve seen it in use of lots of German cab rides on TH-cam.
Great looking loco but the prize is a shocker. That loco would be wrapped up in massive amount of bubble wrap and only taken out to be run when the layout was fitted with foam protection. lol Scott
Jim, And to think that I went to a spy shop here in Florida not even 3 years ago looking for the smallest camera they offered (about the size of an American quarter, too big for HO scale), and when the salesman asked how I'd use it, I said that I wanted to put it in the cab (shell) of a model railroad locomotive to simulate the view that the engineer (driver) has looking out of the cab window. It looks like Roco had the same idea, what a coincidence! So now all of the cab ride videos from this point forward will be shot using this locomotive?
Mark 'BhigDaddyMark' Ferguson Hi Mark....yeah...its a cool idea as the signal is live via wifi back to the ipad etc...there are four versions of the camera loco...jim
hovermotion I can see you been on holiday,,, and putting an update / running session online while your laid at the side of a pool somewhere ,,,,, (or world it be from the orient express that would perhaps be more your cup of tea)
***** lol..yes you are correct...I have too many things going on with my layout.. I have still to finish the turntable etc..and add three more exits, carry on with the p.c automation planning, and i will be setting up a 8 channel camera net work for the layout which can be viewed on a smart phone anywhere in the world by my self or public-web cam at preset times via the net..{advanced house security system with smaller type cameras etc}...
What a fantastic loco. I think I'd love to have one of those locos. I also control my layout using z21 and I've been wishing to get a camera loco for quite a while now, but at £370!? Ouch! I think a cheaper alternative would be to buy the camera parts separately and fit them into my Eurostar. Do you know where I could buy the parts?
Really nice video. I have a short question: at 8:25 you put the Loco on these four stamps. Could you please tell me how these stamps are called and how / where I can buy it. Thanks for your answer, Felix
Hi Jim, do you believe that £400 price have anything to do with it being manufactured in the EU vs China? Are Bachmann and Hornby models manufactured in the EU or China to your knowledge? Most if not all of the manufacturers here in the USA have their models manufactured in China otherwise if manufactured in the US, those trains would cost a King's ransom! Hope that you're doing well, it's been a longtime my friend.
Hi Mark, I hope you are well. Yeah the price at that time would of been about right as the models made in Austria Germany and other parts of Europe were more expensive, but now it seems some hornby, Bachmann models are just as expensive that are made in China . This loco if it was made today would probably be about 600 euro, I have the flying Scotsman on its way from Marklin Trix and that is £500 but I am not sure where Marklin make their models now. Take care pal...
For sure one of the most beautiful locomotives in Germany.
Thank you for the showing this amazing model with cool cam on board.

Wow that's light years ahead of anything I've seen before. Simple superb.

Very nice Loco Jim ....you sure get some good ones
This one is the fully tech loaded loco ..
It’s not a steering wheel it’s used to slowly increase the locomotives speed in small increments. I’ve seen it in use of lots of German cab rides on TH-cam.

Great features on that model .I just wish Roco could do the same on a better looking loco...:)
thanks for the explendid demo there !!
Thanks ..There is a taurus class loco aswell...
fleischmann made a camera in the engine (early 90's) it was borrowed from lionel, the signal was sent through the track (pre dcc)
