    Hi John..........just wanted to say thanks for uploading all of your casting videos.........I have been UK shore fishing for about 5 years now (Essex, Kent and Sussex) and in recent times I have chosen to improve my casting technique (I've always been quite knowledgeable with sea fishing but my casting was an area that has held me back I think).....after seeing a couple of your demos of the easy cast on here about a year or so ago I started trying it out........and I have gradually got better and better with it.......its definitely been a clear improvement compared to my over the head casting producing larger fish and of different species......and I'm sure it will get even better with more practice.
    My dad actually bought two of your books years back (one was called 'Shorefishing'.......published by Faber paperbacks in 1979...........the other was a Collins book 'Encyclopedia of Fishing' published in 1977 of which you wrote the 'Shore Angling' section)..............to this day they are both brilliant books (I've always gone back to them for a read since going through my dads book heap, as a kid in the 1990's)......some of the tactics have inevitably been adjusted these days what with changes in rod designs and tackle but the books still contain a wealth of knowledge..........and are something of a relic of a golden age what with all the pics of Leslie Moncrieff and the like.......anyway mate just wanted to say thanks for all your knowledge and contributions you've made to sea angling......you're a true legend in the sport.

    I tried this out yesterday, kinda difficult on my rod as the butt and reel are far apart. But it absolutely flew out the traps with little effort. Thanks a million John.

    Its great to see one of my casting\angling heroes in action. That simple cast is the essence of distance casting. A great place to start.
    This is the same Mr Holden from Sea Angling by Alan Wrangles. You looked mean with your Tourney and 602ap. Regards.
    Ian. :)

    I believe the recommendation is at least 10lb of shockleader per ounce of sinker, and your rig line needs to be as strong too. There should be a few winds of shockleader on your reel. Use a proper shockleader knot.

    @darkmossie633...
    i am from the USA. last week i went to an empty field to practice casting.
    minutes later a cop showed up and asked what i was doing.
    told him "practicing casting."
    he shook his head, smiled and left.
    evidently, the wench living across the field called the police to report "a mentally disturbed person is fishing on dry land with a long rod!"
    true story.
    i wish people would mind their own business sometimes.

      nipzilla - In today's dystopian world, she would have been informing on you to the police, who would have arrested you for not following lockdown rules.

    @fox22250 Thanks man.Im still getting used to the overhead thrump and trying to learn the african cast.Theres much more power in the african cast when I use it with an 8ft rod and 4 ounce sinker.Keep up the great work!

    Hi I know this is a very old video but it is very welcome to me! I am just getting back into fishing and although I did spinning and fly fishing and some bass fishing with lures I never did casting a beach rod. Anyway I am now retired and living in SW France and want to try some beach fishing as the Atlantic coast is only a short distance away and they say the fishing can be very good. I have a Daiwa 7ht reel and want to pair it with a rod but all the rods have three pieces and the reel seat way up the handle unlike the rods I have seen you using. So the question is can I use my multiplier with this type of rod? A second would be how much do you think is right to spend on a rod bearing in mind I am fishing not trying to reach the USA :)

      Hi John. You could use the 7HT with your rods, but it sounds to me that they're designed for fixed spool fishing. It's worth having a try, all the same. The long handle issue is easily solved by holding the rod above the lower grip so that the hand spacing is more suitable for the 7HT. As for new rods, there are literally hundreds available in all price ranges. Somewhere between £100 and £150 will buy you an excellent one. Look for around 13ft long, 4-6oz and medium/fast action. If there is one rod that's almost guaranteed to suit most people, it's the Daiwa Sandstorm. Any of the multiplier rods in that model range will be great. Sandstorms are my go-to recommendation. I hope this helps.

      @@fox22250 Thank you for the very quick reply! I have only seen rods here at 4.2m or 4.5 m which is I think nearly14ft and nearly 15ft . I may just have to try one of the 4.2m rods and see how it goes. I am fishing so I suppose a cast of 75m would be good enough? I actually looked for a sandstorm on your recommendation in another video but they seem to be unobtainable. I will definitely be trying the easy cast method though, slow but sure and hopefully get the hang of it and be able to cast a bait.

    Hey I think you're right sometimes when it happen (snap off) I recheck the end of main line and I saw it coiling. Is that mean I applied too much or less ?

  • @hangjebrata
    @hangjebrata 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    what is the best size for sinker, shock leader and how long for the shock leader. I just lost my sinker along with shock leader

  • @bassbuster748
    @bassbuster748 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Beware of too much super glue badly applied ..it can weaken the line a bit and i have had leader knots fracture on the tournament field using super glue. There is a lot of shock as the knot passes through the guides.

    @nipzilla It's a true story but you are a liar, it's not YOUR true story. You know how I know? Coz this story is an old classic fishing story now and I personally know the man who this thing happened to. Many people in LI fishing community know the man. So go tell your lies someone else...
