Hey Toonz, the scratch you got at 1:02:53 got you infected and that's why you got sick. Scratches from a zombie have a 7% chance of infection, Lacerations have a 25% chance, and bites are 100%. A few tips for your next run: - You can attach weapons to your back and belt by right clicking them in your inventory, which will put them in the hotbar slot down at the bottom. - When you are in a car you can change seats by pressing Z, and pressing N will turn the car off so you don't have to click the ignition at the bottom, it's just a little hotkey to make things easier. - If zombies get too close, you can push them back with spacebar, you can also keep doing this to push zombies to the ground to easily kill them. - If a window is shattered you can right click it to clear the broken glass with a weapon in your hand so you don't cut yourself when you climb through by holding E, open a window pressing E if the glass hasn't been broken. Some windows can have curtains you can close to prevent zombies from seeing you through the windows. It can be helpful to close them if you stay in a house for a little bit. - Always watch your back when fighting zombies, sometimes they can sneak up behind you to get the chomp.
A few tips for Toonz: 1. Reading skill books give an ex boost to that particular skill. E.g doing crafting and carpenter stuff after reading carpenter book will level you up faster. 2. You. Don't need to eat or drink the whole thing for the thirst or hunger status to go away. Try having 1/3 of the stuff to manage resources better. 3. Zombs are attracted to noise as well as light. You can switch off the lights or put on curtains. You can craft curtains from ripped clothes or sheets. 4. Avoid running or sprinting if you can. Stamina is limited, a tired character will do less damage and do everything slowly. If you do find yourself in a tough situation, you can have a coffee or vitamin do give you a temporary energy to perform at max. 5. Fishing is a great way to get food, if you are planning to set up your base away from the city. You will need a fishing rod or a spear. Both of them can be crafted. 6. BEWARE of the helicopter event. If it sees you it will circle around you attracting all the zombies to your location. Try listening to your radio, in most cases you will be informed in advance. My suggestion would be to have a second base or an outpost where you can spend time to avoid surrounding your main base with zombies.
If you guys are planning on playing more of this I got a few tips from my time playing. 1. Go to your settings and turn on the weapon outline, this will highlight zombies when they're in range to hit and saves you from whiffing. 2. Get accustomed to hotkeys. Shift+Scroll Wheel in inventory will quick swap between containers and your bags, H will pull up your health status, and V in a car will open an interactable menu. 3. Blunt weapons have higher knockdown and durability, while blades have higher damage and will put holes in clothing (bad if you want the zombies jacket). 4. For base building, keep an eye out for essentials such as trash bags (for water collectors) and nails. 5. If you're not deadset on playing vanilla, you should get some QOL mods; some recommendations are weapons durability indicator and moodles/traits explained.
Great tips, especially the green aim outline. That tip made the game so much more fun for me when I started playing. Also, aim past the zombie with your targeting sight and you’ll hit every time with a melee weapon. If you put the targeting sight on the zombie you’ll miss or do a weird spin, then get bit in the back.
Yea easy mode ina game where 99% of runs end in death. I like the highlight for ranged more than melee but it’s a good thing to know for new people for sure.

I hope toonz makes this into a series, it's got lots of "Unknowns" that even I with 800+ hrs on the game still had no idea was a thing. There's also tons of stories and events that happen in the world that keep you on your toes even if you've survived longer than winter *AHEM* bathroom party *AHEM*.

If you dont run to a random house wayyy away from your base until it goes away. Use a trowel to dig, not your hands. Just in case you're still trying to figure out why you died...while a bite is a guaranteed zombification, every injury you receive from a zombie has a chance to transmit the Nox infection. If you ever start feeling queasy following a fight an injury, it's most likely that. Also to note, when the health screen says "infection," that's not the Nox infection, that's just the wound being infected and slowing the healing process.
@@eddapultstab2078 Unfortunately it’s a just don’t get hit, every wound type has a certain percentage to get the Nox infection, I believe scratches are 7% chance, bites are 100% etc, the same can with a normal infection (it’s % is a lot higher) but it can also be caused by dirty bandages left on too long

There is a setting that allows you to highlight your target with an outline depending on the weapon you are using. This basically allows you to visually see when the zombie is close enough to swing your weapon to connect a hit. Less melee whiffs.
I like how Squirrel completely forgot that he spawned at a medical clinic for his second life lol. Walking around corpses can also get you sick so if you can't find a clinic, an ambulance would have supplies too! Also, besides saliva, blood can get you infected as well if you have it enabled in the settings.
"blood" infection would mean scratches and lacerations. It's not blood from the environment like I think your implying. Walking around corpses can't get you sick. Living with them can though. If you have them in proximity to your base over time, they will make you sick, but not nox infection sick, granted it still might be a lethal error.
Bro, nvr did I image Toonz would play this game. While unfinished, playing this with mods has been awesome. Haven't seen the whole video but hope you enjoyed it!
NEVER LEAVE ON A LOOTING RUN WITHOUT SEVERAL DUFFLE BAGS OR BACKPACKS IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR. That why when you bag gets full you cab put it in the trunk then grab another empty one. You'll be able to bring a LOT more supplies home this game is all about planning ahead and be prepared for anything. The game can change heavily against your favor in SECONDS. You constantly have to be prepared
I'm so glad you guys found this game, and hope you guys have fun and continue to play, maybe with more people👀 Here are some tips: -You can set sleep to optional in settings that way you're not vampires lol -or to make it more difficult you can make sleep mandatory -Cooking items (pans, pots) are very good items to have long term -they can hold water -guns are good long term but there is a set amount of ammo in the game so use wisely, also as you saw they make lots of sound and attract lots of zombros. -to prevent your character from getting thirsty all the time you can keep a bottle in your main inventory and they'll drink automatically until it's gone -books give you an xp boost, tv/videotapes give you xp as well as performing whatever action (doing stuff with wood raises carpentry, bandaging yourself gives medical, etc.) -crouch walking can get you by zombies pretty easily -as far as medical issues from zombies, bites you will die 100%, lacerations 25% chance of dying, scratches 7% chance of dying -the better your clothing (yes you can upgrade clothing, I'll let you guys figure it out), the less likely an attack from a zombie will be a bite, laceration, scratch -last but not least, don't get discouraged if you die, the game is set up to where you will die, opening message "This is how you died" glhf ❤
Also to interact with things you can also press E instead of right clicking them, different devices have separate menus where you can interact with them (tv channels, radio channels, etc.), and looks like you may have gotten sick from the exposure to blood and dead zombies. Try not hanging out near a bunch of bodies for too long, and medical supplies are spread throughout the world bc there was a pandemic that went on for about 2 weeks prior to you starting the world (you can change the start date as well) so they're on zombies, in bathrooms, in ambulances, and hospitals (the more obvious, the higher chance you'll find more but also more zombies).
(SPOILER) It was truly sad to see Toonz get infected by the 7% chance from a scratch after absolutely destroying all the zombies he came in contact with.
As someone who’s played a little bit of the game and still doesn’t know everything, the game has such depth and detail for example, you can’t place a generator indoors otherwise your character can die due to all the toxic fumes, but if you open a window, you’ll be okay.
I think it's funnier to see new people play it and also more fun because at a certain point it becomes too gamey and I'd rather play it myself. Seeing new people play is fun, especially when they come up with things that are actually smart organically.
It is hands down the best zombie survival game out there. I've played a few and a lot were stinkers a lot were okay but PZ has insane depth and detail over everything else.
Also, whenever you enter a building, it’s always a good idea to close the door behind. You said that zombies don’t come in behind you because you’re not gonna know until you turn around and you can get cornered.
Please keep this up Cartoonz! Love your stuff! And PZ is one of my favorite games! edit: also, I have some tips for you! Depending on your settings, most cars will be unusable or lack keys. You got lucky, you found an unlocked car with keys in the ignition! Usually, you can find keys on hooks or in containers in houses, or rarely on the floor around the car or even on zombies near the vehicle! The keys will always spawn near the vehicle they work on, and they are named to help you identify the type of car. Second, make sure to check zombie bodies! They often have good loot, can spawn keys for buildings, have ammo, electronics, armor, crafting materials, etc.
At the very beginning, Squirrel said he was by a hospital. Then they spent the last 30 minutes or so looking for a hospital, without Squirrel recollecting that he allegedly saw one at the beginning.
tips on survival that I can give you. Know the moodles and what they do, for instance some moodles like panic and pain can reduce your stats and make you weaker as in your strength to kill a zombie can be hindered drastically. Once you understand the moodles you will understand why your character cant kill zombies or aim that shotgun. Always carry beta blockers if you are clearing large numbers. Also know when to run. Close spaces with lots of zombies is bad, better to be in the open, or fight them in a choke point like a open window or a fence where they have to stumble in to get you. Good luck out there.
so glad to see you guys playing that great game would love to see you play it more also feel so bad that the ONE time toons got hurt he got a scratch with only like 5% chance to be infected and failed that checks so brutal
It is great seeing toonz play project zomboid! When you play coop, you don't need to sleep, so I can see why they were curious about why they were never tired.
@@ms_scribblesyou can enable it in the settings, but it is inconvenient, as it only fast fowards time if both players sleep at the same time. Otherwise, you'll need to stay in bed for a good while while your tiredness fades away slowly
You know what i like best about your videos? Just your total lack of a reaction when Squirrel is freaking out over something....the dead silence and then just changing the subject when hes telling you hes been bit again is freaking hilarious 😂
I hope delirious gets in on this with you. This is honestly one of those games like Minecraft or Rust where you can have a shit ton of people across the whole map. I know its not the type of game the vanoss crew would play but im still hoping lol
I looked it up The game will never outright tell the player that they are infected, and will instead develop symptoms over time. Therefore, if scratched or lacerated, you may not be able to know you're infected until the nausea and worse symptoms In Project Zomboid, dealing with sickness can be a difficult problem. To eliminate nausea, identify its source, rest in a secure location, avoid cold and damp environments, and keep away from dead bodies. Lemongrass can also be consumed to prevent food sickness. Also that scratch that you got the literal only one you got in the whole video got you infected which is why y’all can’t see it tell you anything about it so yeah you are dying but they said lemongrass can help.
Awesome video! Definitely a great early run, and I hope you make more videos on Zomboid. I did want to mention that Squirrel had it a bit tougher then you may think. He had very low fitness and strength so he couldn't back peddle away from the zombies very well and he hit like a wet noodle. At his stage in the game he's supposed to be sneaking around and stealth killing solo zombies, compared to him your character was a tank. Thanks for the 3 hr vid/movie!
I am currently at the 50 minute mark and idk if you figure these out in the rest of the vid, but I got some info that might be helpful. - To switch seats in the car, hold V to open up a radial menu of interactions you can do in the car, and the switch seat option should be there. - Using cars as a barricade has been a bit nerfed, they can still climb under the car to get to you. - Scratches and Lacerations carry their own chances to get infected, a scratch is about a 7% chance and a laceration is 25%. A bite is a guaranteed infection. - To tell that when you're infected, there will be a sickness moodle that shows up and will get more severe, note that the moodle shows up in other situations as well (being around corpses for too long, eating spoiled food, etc.) If the sickness moodle shows up way after a bite or a scratch with no other possible reason, it is a good chance you're infected. - When a scratch on your health menu says infected, it does not mean you carry the zombie virus, it means it will heal slower and is not much of an issue. You can find alcohol wipes or bottles of disinfectant or just use bourbon in order to help get rid of the infection. - Be mindful of insulating yourself too much. The normal game start is in the summer, so wearing fewer layers can help you stay cool. However, you can be more careful about heat by carrying more water or exerting yourself less if wearing more armored clothing is your concern. - Meta Events will occur in your surroundings, such as screams or gunshots, these will move hordes around so be mindful of them. The main one is the Helicopter Event, and will show up a bit into your run. They will follow you and attract neighborhoods of zombies. Either be prepared and hide, or start driving away from whatever you own. To know when one is coming, find a radio that can pick up the Automated Emergency Broadcast System. It can tell you if it detects unauthorized air traffic in the map. - Guns are loud but some are not as loud as you think. Pistols can alert a smallish area and rifles alert a wider area. Shotguns have the widest area of noise and will bring hordes on you if you're not careful. - One handed blunt weapons will train the short blunt skill, while two-handed blunt weapons will train long blunt, and the same with blades. Crowbars are a long blunt and they can train the maintenance skill reliably. Axes and Spears are the best weapons for killing, but axes require a bit of training and take some endurance, and spears are very fragile. - They are ways to open locked doors. You can lead a zombie into a building and kill them, there is a chance that they can drop a key. The key will always be for the building you killed them in, and it can open all the locked doors in the building. - If a key is difficult to obtain, you can dissemble the door. Look at what the door requires to be dissembled (Hammer and Screwdriver, or a Propane Torch and Welding Mask), and you can get into a room if you have some time to spare. - If you can't get a key or have the tools to dissemble, but you have an axe or any damaging weapon, you can aim and hit the door with your weapon. This will take a while unless you have an axe or a sledgehammer. If you're able to obtain a sledgehammer, you can get into anything and anywhere if you right click and select the destroy option. With the sledgehammer, you can destroy furniture, walls, and doors that are blocking your way. - Q to Shout might seem useless, but if you're careful, shouting while outside a house or a room can attract any zombie behind doors that could surprise you. This will reduce the chances of a bite to the back, or finding too many zombies to handle. Standing and pressing Q will let you do a loud shout, while crouching will let you whisper to attract only a few zombies in front of you. Crouch shouting or knocking on a door (hitting it with your weapon) might be safer options for attracting zeds. Hope those help, and if you guys continue zomboid, good luck!
Hold v while in a car or next to a car for more options. Fanny packs can be worn for a little extra space, worth picking them up. You won’t need to worry about sleeping unless you turned it on in the settings, multiplayer turns it off but u can/ should enable it. Mods are highly recommended. Hope this helps!
Love these lore videos of the characters houses and the obscure things pertaining to them, and specifically the way you narrate them. Please I’d love to see all them.
This is my favorite video from you for a good amount of time. Yes I love the content but this is actually amazing and fun to watch! As are your other vids but this definitely needs to be a series. I’m chomping at the bit for more!!
This is something I always dreamed about, I never expected you to actually play this gem of a game, and 3 straight hours of content too, I must be dreamin
Haven't looked through all the comments but getting the Zombie virus can also be caused by leaving blood on your body/clothes depending on the type of transmission selected in the game options. Would love to know how you seemed to have the key for every vehicle you came across though :P
So there's a setting you can turn on that highlights the zombies you're aiming at or the containers you're interacting with, i recommend turning that on for some quality of life. Use CTRL to swivel around to aim at stuff and check behind you. Spacebar is to shove zombies away from you, because your melee weapon swings have a sweet spot range where they do proper damage. If your shove knocks a zombie to the ground, you can stand over them and they can't get up or attack you back. Then pressing spacebar again will let you stomp their heads, to kill them without wasting weapon durability, just make sure you shuffle so your actually stomping the head and not the leg or whatever. You don't actually need to loot everything straight away. After you've got a weapon and a bag, just remember where caches of important stuff are - like food, skill books, meds, guns, building supplies, tools etc - and just come back later when you can move it in bulk after you've cleared out a few zeds. Perishable food will last a while in fridges until the power goes out, but its probably the highest priority thing to stockpile, then skill books.
Project zomboid just really proves to everyone that even with the TWD zombies, we would all struggle to survive. Especially considering the fact that most of us has more negative traits for survival rather than positive ones lmao

- You can attach weapons to your back and belt by right clicking them in your inventory, which will put them in the hotbar slot down at the bottom.

I'm so glad you guys found this game, and hope you guys have fun and continue to play, maybe with more people👀
Here are some tips:
-You can set sleep to optional in settings that way you're not vampires lol
-or to make it more difficult you can make sleep mandatory
-Cooking items (pans, pots) are very good items to have long term
-they can hold water
-guns are good long term but there is a set amount of ammo in the game so use wisely, also as you saw they make lots of sound and attract lots of zombros.
-to prevent your character from getting thirsty all the time you can keep a bottle in your main inventory and they'll drink automatically until it's gone
-books give you an xp boost, tv/videotapes give you xp as well as performing whatever action (doing stuff with wood raises carpentry, bandaging yourself gives medical, etc.)
-crouch walking can get you by zombies pretty easily
-as far as medical issues from zombies, bites you will die 100%, lacerations 25% chance of dying, scratches 7% chance of dying
-the better your clothing (yes you can upgrade clothing, I'll let you guys figure it out), the less likely an attack from a zombie will be a bite, laceration, scratch
-last but not least, don't get discouraged if you die, the game is set up to where you will die, opening message "This is how you died"
glhf ❤
I know long videos like this aren’t for everyone but I love it. Especially a game like this. Perfect for watching while I do chores. Thank you Toonz
(SPOILER) It was truly sad to see Toonz get infected by the 7% chance from a scratch after absolutely destroying all the zombies he came in contact with.
Wait, that's why his health drained?
I couldn't even see that stat, it's so small on my phone screen.
😮
It doesn't out right tell you, however if your character gets a fever, nausea and anxiety those are the signs that you got infected.@@Gutslinger
@@okayrain6495unless you get the mod that show stats
@@Gutslinger1:02:58 that’s what killed him
As someone who’s played a little bit of the game and still doesn’t know everything, the game has such depth and detail for example, you can’t place a generator indoors otherwise your character can die due to all the toxic fumes, but if you open a window, you’ll be okay.
Smitty made it look entertaining N now I get a 3 hour power vid? Thank you merciful tOonZ!
I think it's funnier to see new people play it and also more fun because at a certain point it becomes too gamey and I'd rather play it myself. Seeing new people play is fun, especially when they come up with things that are actually smart organically.
Glad to see this game getting the recognition it deserves!
fr
It is hands down the best zombie survival game out there. I've played a few and a lot were stinkers a lot were okay but PZ has insane depth and detail over everything else.
Crazy how much it exploded after the multiplayer update went out for the animation update. And there's still so much good stuff coming.
Cartoonz: You got bit, ur gonna turn into a zombie
Squirrel: Nuh Uh
Love it how Squirrel always leaves the car running.
Also you definitely can sleep in multiplayer. Everyone just needs to sleep at same time.
You can only sleep in multiplayer If a settings in sandbox is turned on
Hearing Squirrel panic as his character gets murdered in under a minute is classic PZ.
This game is such a gem. Really hope this is a reoccurring game on the channel.
At the very beginning, Squirrel said he was by a hospital.
Then they spent the last 30 minutes or so looking for a hospital, without Squirrel recollecting that he allegedly saw one at the beginning.
And the ambulance
Thank you for playing this! Wish Delirious had enough time to record this long of a video with ya.
I love how squirrel leaves the car running like fuel isn’t essential or there inside a closed space and they won’t suffocate
Cartoonz, there's an option where it highlights the enemies with melee, can't remember the setting rn, but you can look for it if you want :p
the option i think it is "Aim Outline"
tips on survival that I can give you.
It’s hilarious I knew exactly where Squirrel was from his descriptions. This is such a great game can’t wait to finish the next half of the video XD
I loved this game so much, I played it as a kid when it was barely started in alpha! Please do more Toonz!
so glad to see you guys playing that great game would love to see you play it more also feel so bad that the ONE time toons got hurt he got a scratch with only like 5% chance to be infected and failed that checks so brutal
Dude, I could watch unlimited hours of this. I hope you do long videos of this often. It's fun to watch.
I demand a series of this please, keep the narration too, 🔥
It is great seeing toonz play project zomboid! When you play coop, you don't need to sleep, so I can see why they were curious about why they were never tired.
Do you need to sleep in split screen
@@Glenn_Quagmire I could be wrong, but I don't think any type of multiplayer has sleeping.
@@ms_scribblesyou can enable it in the settings, but it is inconvenient, as it only fast fowards time if both players sleep at the same time. Otherwise, you'll need to stay in bed for a good while while your tiredness fades away slowly
Toonz’s intro was like he was preparing us for war 😂
You know what i like best about your videos? Just your total lack of a reaction when Squirrel is freaking out over something....the dead silence and then just changing the subject when hes telling you hes been bit again is freaking hilarious 😂
This is actually such a great game, id love to see Toonz make this a series
MORE OF THIS PLEASE CARTOONZ!!!!, also it might be good to bring in the whole squad!
Please ket this be a series. I love seeing new blood in the zombie pit!
I hope delirious gets in on this with you. This is honestly one of those games like Minecraft or Rust where you can have a shit ton of people across the whole map. I know its not the type of game the vanoss crew would play but im still hoping lol
I looked it up
The game will never outright tell the player that they are infected, and will instead develop symptoms over time. Therefore, if scratched or lacerated, you may not be able to know you're infected until the nausea and worse symptoms
In Project Zomboid, dealing with sickness can be a difficult problem.
I've played this game for a few years now.
This is peak excitement.
Hope this becomes a series Fr, great game to play wit friends especially wit modes. But overall glad to see you playing this beauty of a game.
This game started my channel! Its so good to see one of my favorite creators playing it, especially in long content form.
@roughtonhood4KYLE You're stuffs not bad man, you earned a sub
having FIVE of you guys play this will be a dream of mine, You, H2O, Squirrel, Rilla, amd Kyle, but SOLO would be a blast as well.
100% need a series of this - and 3+ hours is great!!!
Love these lore videos of the characters houses and the obscure things pertaining to them, and specifically the way you narrate them. Please I’d love to see all them.
Zomboid series would be so much fun to watch, keep up the content man!
the quickest time I’ve been killed is 7 minutes in game. I swear the zombie was spawned in the house with me
It’s a long and difficult trial, but eventually you’ll be able to make it to day 2 without dying
Toonz needed the song drinking and dreaming around the end when he got drunk and jump in the car 😂😂❤
I'm hyped that you're finally playing this game Toonz. You should really check out some of the mods. Huge quality of life changes.
More of this please. I really love watching Project Zomboid. Try living longer or make an episodes out of this.
I love this game. I'm so excited and looking forward to the update with animals and NPCs.
I would love a series of Cartoonz playing this game with his group, even like a modded or like a story kind.
Badass, I really wanted to watch you play this game!
Sincerely hope this becomes a series. PZ is easily one of the most difficult and satisfying games out there right now.
Toons, I never thought I see you play this game, but im grateful you chose 3 hours. Love your work and your energy, man
Also, you can wash dirty rags for bandage reuse
This is my favorite video from you for a good amount of time. Yes I love the content but this is actually amazing and fun to watch! As are your other vids but this definitely needs to be a series. I’m chomping at the bit for more!!
you gotta get mods it makes the game so much better
As an experienced lone survivor, watching them play is both hilarious and frustrating as hell
This is something I always dreamed about, I never expected you to actually play this gem of a game, and 3 straight hours of content too, I must be dreamin
Anyone realized that Squirrel sponned in the hospital during his second character and that they could have just gone there when Cartoonz was dying😂
Haven't looked through all the comments but getting the Zombie virus can also be caused by leaving blood on your body/clothes depending on the type of transmission selected in the game options.
Would love to know how you seemed to have the key for every vehicle you came across though :P
If you hold right click and drag off screen. You will look further, this also works in a car if the windows down/broken. ❤
I can only imagine the chaos of the whole crew played this
I like the part where you guys are inside a closed building with a running car. 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣
This was funny. Can't wait for part 3 man.
I would love for this to be a series on the channel so much potential with this game
one of my favorite creators playing a criminally underrated game what more could i ask for on a wednesday afternoon
Now imagine this with more people
That is always a masterpiece
already not even five minutes in and cartoons screws up by not taking both the cleaver and the knife, incase one breaks, or if squirrel needs a weapon
Project zomboid just really proves to everyone that even with the TWD zombies, we would all struggle to survive. Especially considering the fact that most of us has more negative traits for survival rather than positive ones lmao
Squirrel in the start was not bad, he was just vary unlucky😂
Props to that editing though, good work
