Love the video. Keep that White Nights Indigo for yourself. It's one of my favorites. It dries lighter than you think but when you layer, it's beautiful.
It was wonderful to watch the unboxing and as a collage artist, I was really lusting after that packaging paper. I may have to place an order just to get that, and maybe some more Roman Szmal colors.
I knew you would fall for Schminke's supergranulating colors, it was only a matter of time, lol! Edit: regarding the White Nights, it seems they change the pigments for the same hue from time to time, maybe for improving their lightfastness. My old palette has quite a number of hues which are now formulated in a different way.
Love this! I just ordered from Jackson’s yesterday because of the schminke sale. I splurged and got the Forest Boxed set. I loved the glacier series and they granulate beautifully. Thankfully I used DHL and now that I watched this I am relieved I did. Thank you for all your helpful videos.

The pans absolutely fall out of the White Knights palette. Even if you store it flat, they are loose enough that they sometime pop out just opening it. I used to stick a tiny bit of wall tak ( it’s a bit stickier than kneaded erasers, and I have it on hand because my kids love to rearrange stuff on their walls constantly) on the bottom of the pans to keep them in place. I do really like that the mixing tray is removable though. I ended up moving the paints to one of Studio of M.M.’s palette towers because it fits on my desk better. I can send you a pic on Instagram if you want or she has a channel here with the same name if you want to look yourself.
Hi Denise! The new Winser & Newton bright orange called Transparent Orange is "PO107." The pan I bought several months ago has the pigment number right on the pan. I double checked Dick Blick's listing and the pigment number is the same there also. Its also listed on Jane Blundell's website. Loved the haul!!!!
Hey Denise! Thanks for another great video, I especially appreciate your haul disclaimer. I just took a pocket knife to those pesky little tabs in the white nights palette. It might be a little spoon depleting, but you could just do a couple at a time. Or I don’t think it’s an unreasonable favor to ask someone close to you, a decent knife shaves them down without much trouble
Yes, I was one of the ones that voted YES, I love art supply unboxing videos, thanks for sharing, I live vicariously through others, saving up for my big haul. I was going to do a Jackson's haul but then I saw the shipping fees and was like :'( so I'll just watch this one and enjoy
Roman Szmal is my favorite! I have been using it since it was first offered from Jackson’s. I really hope you ordered Isaro Indigo. It is made with a brown instead of black, so it is unique, it gives it a softer blue.
Every order of White Nights I've received, whether single or in a set, has had dusty bits on the top of most the colors. I just clean them off before using. I've seen other people comment the same.
i love watching your channel. you're so informative and knowledgeable about watercolors. i come to your channel for all reviews. granted i am a novice right now but you give me inspiration to one day be as talented as you and be able to produce such quality pieces of work.
Thanks again Denise! As always I appreciate your compassion for the working painter, mentioning price ranges and not feeling a sense of obligation to try everything🤗 I've learned sooo much about pigments, chemical composition, comparing, what to look for (safer is better) and swatching! (I have a little of that mad scientist gene too) so enjoy seeing how you compose a pallette! God bless you! Thanks again
I love your live recorded videos Imho, Denise, you're one of the best on TH-cam and I enjoy your pleasant voice, candor, content, expertise, and effort.
Yay, haul! It always makes my day when you upload a video 😁 Right before you pulled out the plastic palette I thought you might have gotten one of those lavender/lilac White Nights metal palettes. Those are pretty high on my list...
They are awesome! But they do fit 7 White Night pans in a row, specially. I tried with Roman Szmal pans and the top and bottom row only fit 6 pans plus a hal pan - the rounded corners on the tray get in the way. :)
I work in a warehouse and receive boxes every day and I have to say that FedEx and UPS Ground services treat the packages equally, but in the past UPS was the most difficult to file a claim with because they like to fight it, while FedEx will make the claim process as easy as possible and have great customer service. It seems like UPS and FedEx take better care of the Express packages because that is where they make the most money. I have never had a pleasant customer service experience with USPS in regards to filing a claim, their typical response was "well, it was delivered, so it's no longer our problem" after they either lost a package or delivered it to the wrong address.
The Schmincke Super Granulating paints are lovely but 99% certainty you'll not need all of them. Many can be mixed with what's on hand. These look lovely 👍looking forward to seeing what you make of them
I loved this informal video, fog and all!! I now understand better what the "gummy" pans I run across are. Tubes too. Do you do anything to improve them when you are painting??
Thank you, Michelle! If its in a tube, you can try mixing up the paint as well as possible, but some formulas are just binder heavy. Just be aware of it and try not to layer over them too much - they like to move around.
Some of those Super Granulating colours look real gorgeous, but damn 12 Euros per tube still feels like A HECK LOAD of money (yes, I know, artist grade watercolours are costly, but still...) so I went with getting some more of the regulars. French Ultramarine and Potters Pink are already in my palette, but I also ordered that Mahogany and Manganese Violet to create some of those gorgeous super granulating colours myself :)
Remember that every single one of the supergranulating colors is a convenience mix! At least one of them uses Potter's Pink, so go ahead and experiment with that color.
@@RamoArt That's the exact reason I got the regular ones to dabble with instead 😉 Convinience is good and all, but with the regular colours, I'll be more versatile in the long run. Seeing that some of those super granulating ones usually got two sometimes even three different colours in them, I'll have at least three different colours at my disposal 🥰 I mean, it's not as if I'm uncomfortable with mixing, rather the opposite as the more inexpensive opaque water colours and mixing with them is how colour theory is taught here in Germany 😁
I love how they package things, the peanuts stuffed into the palette is so cute. Jackson’s is good for all paper and card, and they all like to put tubes and pastels in the boxes of three that they get them, bit confusing when you sometimes see the wrong colour label cos they’re re-using them. Ah, the fusion palettes, love them. Also that Schmincke light green-blue. I put my Roman Szmal pans in a cheap Jackson’s palette and they fit fine, big enough they can even fall out.
For the Roman Szmal full pans, here’s an easy way to get something like the White Nights palette. I use a Mijello 33 well Fusion palette. I’ve taken all the trays out (including the well insert), then use bluetack to stick the full pans to the palette. I love the flexibility so much I’m gradually switching all my paints to this arrangement. So far, the bluetack is holding well.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this tip! I’ve been trying to find a storage solution for these pans and hoping RS would come out with something. This is probably a much more affordable option...
Hello! Do you have, or would you consider making, a video with your colour and brand recommendations for a basic palette? I am in the process of replacing the student paints I started with, and it's a little daunting to pick what brand to get what colours from.
Hi Isa, I have several videos on a variety of palettes here on the channel, but its such a complicated subject to tailor to each individual. For that reason, I produced a full Skillshare class on the subject. You can find a link with a free trial in the description :)
Oh, and I have a Top 10 brands video updated from 2019 to tell you about which brands are suited for what types of painters if you're looking for brand information over pigment numbers.
@@InLiquidColor I saw it , both that video and the colour spotlights were very useful when I wanted some nicer colours to supplement my basic VanGogh (edit) student palette. I'll check out the skillshare class, since I'm at the point of replacing the basic colours and don't know exactly what to get. Thank you so much for answering!
@@Isatoday Haha no worries! I'm sorry everything is so overwhelming. The Skillshare classes talk more about pigments and mixing than brands, so I apologize that it won't be helpful there. However, contrary to this particular haul, I'm a big advocate of buying affordably and locally if you can, and then expanding your search if you can't find what you're looking for closer to home.
Hi Denise, thank you for the video! It's great to see/hear you again :-) Regarding the White Nights palette, they do sell it separately. It's not super easy to find, even in Europe. But in theory, it's an option. However, the White Nights full pans are ever so slightly narrower and as you saw, no other pans will fit inside their palette. Unless you are up for some tinkering :) I used sanded paper - I just rubbed regular-sized pans against sanded paper to shave off a millimeter. It doesn't take that much effort and afterward everything fits perfectly :-)
Thanks Kuba! Nice to see you in the comments again as well. I had seen other artists buy the palette separately, but since I was using affiliate money for this order, I had to stick with what Jacksons offered. In the long run, I'm sure everything will work out :)
I recently got a Rubens palette on Amazon US that is quite similar to your Mjello palette, except it has HUGE pans that can easily fit a 2" hake brush. In case anyone is looking for something like that!
@@InLiquidColor☺️🤎 Which episode is your favourite? Mine would have to be Our Mrs. Reynolds; it's just incredibly funny and the chemistry amongst all the characters was spot on (not that the chemistry was ever off in that show).
@@InLiquidColor Both incredible episodes, it's just really sad what Fox did to the series before it even got a chance to really get going. I can only image if Firefly had gone on season wise like Buffy did
Don’t concern yourself with improv presentations. It makes me feel like I’m chatting with a friend. Lots of interesting information and the colors are enchanting. Granulation is the business! 💖
Thank You so much for showing this! I have an empty White Nights pallet that is just sitting there because I could not fit regular full pans in them. Hubby is in the process of fixing that problem for me!! 😁😁 I have been thinking about trying the Super Granulating Schmincke also, I will be looking forward to your swatches and first impressions before I actually bite the bullet. I am currently waiting on a shipment from Jacksons for my first try at some Roman Szmal paints (6 to be exact) and a couple of Khadi 100% cotton rag sketchbooks. A few of the RS paints that I would have liked were also out of stock. I have missed you so much and get so excited when I see your videos pop up! I'm glad that you're doing well and look forward to more videos! 🥰🥰
Thank you Cajun! It's good to still see you in the comments! If you haven't already seen then, Oto Kano, Alice Lim, and Kimberly Crick all have amazing resources on the Schmincke SG colors. Links are in the description! But I'll try to get out a video as soon as I am able.
Thank you for your videos. I was a wee bit surprised to see you getting more Roman Szmal...your review of the RS paints was the most helpful to me of the many RS reviews posted perhaps because, as beautiful as they are, the aspects of them that made them less than ideal for your style of painting are the problems that I have with them--they won't soften out, and one ends up with all kinds of unwanted hard edges if one doesn't paint to edge of paper etc.. Would be interested in hearing more of your thoughts about them if/as you continue to use them. Also would be very interested in hearing your thoughts about A. Gallo paints if those ever cross your path!
I kind of got over excited about the new granulating colors and may have forgotten how I initially felt about them ;) I'll blame it on my fibro fog brain. I'll keep y'all updated to see if I like them any better moving forward!
I have that palette from Winsor and newton…. It looks just like it…. It was my first watercolor palette ever! I like the design but the pans slide everywhere…. So that is why I decided to buy a different one. I’ve gone through so many set ups…. Right now I’m with a plate and dollops on the ceramic plate. Lol! I will find something someday!
Glad to see you back on YT for all of us obsessed with pigments and swatching (literally watching paint dry). Your unboxing led me to a frivolous purchase as well. I've been enamored with these Schmincke super granulating sets since they came out. But so expensive. Just went to Jackson's and saw that these are now available in 5ml sets as anniversary editions. Needless to say, since I also suffer from full set syndrome", in my cart they went now on the way to the US via DHL Thanks for pushing me over the edge on these Denise (I think, 😋$$$)
When talking about the watercolor pallette, there's a pallette that is a hybrid of the 16 wells like the blue one you have, but instead of the small mixing well in the middle, it has the metal clasps to put in half and full pans. In total, I can put in 51 colors and it all fits in that same size. I absolutely love it. It sells on Amazon by Bright Creations. I also think Irit Landgraf here on TH-cam sells them on her website. She's the one I discovered them through.
Hola Denise! Can you please share your thoughts on the Renesans Polska handmade Polish Watercolors? I have a few of them and they are wonderful but would like to see what you do with them.... Hopefully!
I used to think 5m tubes weren't enough but I have yet to finish a pan of my tube paint over 2 years and I paint on a regular basis. And it now makes sense why wc artists have so many tubes. To try all the colors/brands.
This is such an amazing video, Denise!!! I've been binge-watching your videos as I find them so calming and relaxing 🥰I've also had a bad experience with a Jackson's order that was shipped through FedEx. At first, they said my address was incorrect even though all the details were right and when I contacted them they said they fixed everything. However, when I looked at the tracking they said it was still incorrect, this then went to the package being 'missing' and needing someone to investigate what happened to the package. I then found out that the package was damaged and a porcelain palette I ordered was broken. My order was refunded as Jackson's told me what had happened, I then reordered everything including the porcelain palette through normal tracked shipping and it came in perfect condition.
If you want a cool palete you should try the white nights tin palette! I bought mine off of etsy and got it in the mail a little over a month later. It fits around 36 full pans it is like the black palette but it is lavender and has 5 rows I instead of 4. They come in different sizes and can order a full set of just the tin.
Just wanted to make a small correction as the super granulating line does also come in 5 ml tubes, however I’m not sure if it’s only available in Germany
You should’ve bought the new metal tin set of white nights. The tin’s super pretty (but a little less functional- less mixing space) and the 35 set contains all absolutely lightfast pigments. Enjoyed the haul! Also white nights has updated some of the colours hence the pr19 Carmine and py43 raw sienna.
I really loved this, thank you for doing yet another amazing video! I have been loving your skill share classes too. I am so happy I found your channel and classes to help me in my watercolor journey!
I had a package come like that and had to call because 12 of 16 paints, Qor and Daniel Smith, were missing. That was not a good time as I ordered them for something specific and had to wait even longer to get them.
my fav paint in my white nights set is from the pastel range and its the peach colour, did not know how i would use it but its great for loads of things, tfs
FedEx destroyed my parcel too! They literally stepped on it and did a poor job of taping it up and the box was open when it got to me!! I want to send a picture to you so you can see it!
What a mess! I'll definitely be going with DHL for the next order. I did NOT expect quick delivery given the state of the world, but DHL delivered to me in two days! I was shocked.
@@InLiquidColor I had DHL deliver a package in two days as well once. Ive had multiple packages from Jackson’s, and always choose dhl. Your video has made me decide to always choose dhl for Jackson’s orders.
Yay! New video :) So excited for the future videos! the way they opened/handled that box is weird. I’m not sure if it’s a similar case but when I buy stuff overseas, the freight forwarder/courier has to check if there are any items that are flammable or have a flammable/toxic/poison (?) symbol. They mostly do this for liquids and creams. This happens to me when I buy skincare and makeup. But they usually put the items back nicely. (I live in Asia, btw)
i've not heard anyone talk about the granulation of the white nights mine are so granulating i got them 2 christmases ago so maybe the recipe is different
Just bought a bunch of paints from Jackson’s as my assistant (fancy word for care aide) accidentally tossed out my schmincke palette and a sketchbook ( the sketchbook hurt) and then wouldn’t you know it today they announced a sale... grrrrr, so I’m tempted to add the white nights as well now. Covid spending is hard!
I got a package from blick with a big hole in it the other day too! Also fedex! thankfully everything was in it and didn't get wet from the rain but it was really concerning
great video i really enjoyed it but i've got a question: is nickel yellow actually a safe color that i believed was unsafe for no reason, or did you buy that isaro tube bcos you just love the color so much just like that roman szmal cobalt blue?
PY53 Nickel TItanium Yellow is rated the same as PY150 Nickel Azo Yellow (which I'd ague many watercolorists have somewhere on their palette either in single pigment or as a mixture), both being rated "B." This is also the same as Cobalt and Cadmium colors. My current reason for trying not to use cobalts is their ethical mining/sourcing issues rather than toxicity. I have faltered in this rule for shades that are unique and not able to be easily replicated in hue mixtures. I have never used cadmiums, so I just choose to continue avoiding them for the ease in keeping additional toxic pigments off my palette. I typically do not keep PY53, but it is one of those colors I've been wanting to try out, so I'll make sure to be really careful when disposing of my paint water. It's not a perfect practice of my ideals, but hopefully it gives you an idea of my thought process behind it. No one is perfect, but as long as we're informed, we can make decisions based on that information. Here's a link to a database including all pigment toxicity and other qualities: www.artiscreation.com/yellow.

Wow that's quite a haul. I am very interested in trying the Roman Szmal pans. They always look great. Thank you for sharing.
Shout out to Jackson's for having a watercolour sale right around my birthday
Wooot!
Yes, my LE tube says PO107 but their full release of the color no longer has a pigment listing on it. Curious indeed!
I LOVE Mahagoni Brown by Schmincke, it's soo beautiful and unique! It almost looks like a multi pigment paint sometimes, but it's not.
I am pleased to see an artist FINALLY being brave enough to make a political stand against hatred and racism. Good for you! Love all art hauls!
Denise, when you were swatching the White Nights palette card, what brush were you using (~40:54)?
Every order of White Nights I've received, whether single or in a set, has had dusty bits on the top of most the colors. I just clean them off before using. I've seen other people comment the same.
i love watching your channel. you're so informative and knowledgeable about watercolors. i come to your channel for all reviews. granted i am a novice right now but you give me inspiration to one day be as talented as you and be able to produce such quality pieces of work.
Perfect video for having my morning coffee ☕, I hope all is well with you sweetie
Heather
Thanks again Denise! As always I appreciate your compassion for the working painter, mentioning price ranges and not feeling a sense of obligation to try everything🤗 I've learned sooo much about pigments, chemical composition, comparing, what to look for (safer is better) and swatching! (I have a little of that mad scientist gene too) so enjoy seeing how you compose a pallette! God bless you! Thanks again
I love your live recorded videos Imho, Denise, you're one of the best on TH-cam and I enjoy your pleasant voice, candor, content, expertise, and effort.
Thank you so much Liz! I really struggle since losing some cognitive sharpness over the years with my chronic health, so that means a lot!
A real joy to watch this!
Yay, haul! It always makes my day when you upload a video 😁
Right before you pulled out the plastic palette I thought you might have gotten one of those lavender/lilac White Nights metal palettes.
Thanks for the added information!
@@InLiquidColor thank you🙂🙂
Ps, I lived your Firefly reference!!
And to show how overwhelming brands can be, I said my student palette is from DaVinci when I meant Vangogh 😂
Yessssss not only do I get a Denise video, she also brings the ASMR
Love those palettes. Have two of them. Mejello?
Thanks for letting everyone know!
Two by two, hands of blue. Internal Firefly fangirl squealing happened with that nice intro of yours, so thank you for that!!!
Always happy to run into a fellow Browncoat!
@@InLiquidColor☺️🤎 Which episode is your favourite? Mine would have to be Our Mrs. Reynolds; it's just incredibly funny and the chemistry amongst all the characters was spot on (not that the chemistry was ever off in that show).
@@crafty_j957 oh gosh that's such a hard question! Either Our Mrs. Reynolds or Out of Gas. Both amazing for very different reasons!
@@InLiquidColor Both incredible episodes, it's just really sad what Fox did to the series before it even got a chance to really get going. I can only image if Firefly had gone on season wise like Buffy did
This was really fun, thanks for bringing us along!
Don’t concern yourself with improv presentations. It makes me feel like I’m chatting with a friend. Lots of interesting information and the colors are enchanting. Granulation is the business! 💖
I finally got that White Nights palette as well, only I got it empty.
But I'll try to get out a video as soon as I am able.
i adored thi video, thank you Denise for sharing with us all these goodies
What is that colour beside neutral black ? It’s so beautiful
It's called Marengo... I have the tube version and it is wonderful!
White powder is there to prevent paints from sticking to the foil afaik
Glad to see you back on YT for all of us obsessed with pigments and swatching (literally watching paint dry). Your unboxing led me to a frivolous purchase as well. I've been enamored with these Schmincke super granulating sets since they came out. But so expensive. Just went to Jackson's and saw that these are now available in 5ml sets as anniversary editions. Needless to say, since I also suffer from full set syndrome", in my cart they went now on the way to the US via DHL Thanks for pushing me over the edge on these Denise (I think, 😋$$$)
Haha sorry to be that extra nudge but I hope you enjoy them! That's exciting to hear about the smaller size!
I love hauls! And thanks for still mentioning BLM & AAPI!
Hola Denise! Can you please share your thoughts on the Renesans Polska handmade Polish Watercolors? I have a few of them and they are wonderful but would like to see what you do with them.... Hopefully!
Hi Laura! I have some Renesans here in the "to be reviewed" pile, but haven't gotten to them yet. I will as soon as I can!
I have missed your voice 🥺 thank you for another great video. Instantly relaxed by your channel and I LOVE an unboxing! ♥️xx
Can I make a pallet watercolor pallet in an airtight container and keep moist or do I need to keep them dry
Can you review the arteza watercolors please?
Sorry, I won't be reviewing them. I'm not a fan of them and don't like to make negative videos.
@@InLiquidColor oh ok
I just bought a bunch of Schmincke from Jackson's too, and now they are on sale, darn!
They're on sale till mid May.
Shucks!
I used to think 5m tubes weren't enough but I have yet to finish a pan of my tube paint over 2 years and I paint on a regular basis. And it now makes sense why wc artists have so many tubes. To try all the colors/brands.
I hear you there! I was just remarking on how I haven't used up some 5ml tubes I got four years ago!
Great video! Can you tell me the name of the palette you use for Roman Szmal paints? Would like to order one for my growing collection. Thank you.
It's a White Nights tin, but I can't find a link. Oto picked it up for me in a European shop. Sorry!
I believe Jackson's carries this now as well.
Love your videos. You are a pleasure to watch. What was that flat brush you were using?
Just wanted to make a small correction as the super granulating line does also come in 5 ml tubes, however I’m not sure if it’s only available in Germany
You should’ve bought the new metal tin set of white nights. The tin’s super pretty (but a little less functional- less mixing space) and the 35 set contains all absolutely lightfast pigments. Enjoyed the haul!
Also white nights has updated some of the colours hence the pr19 Carmine and py43 raw sienna.
I have that new tin and it's such a well made and beautifully colored palette. And you can fit 35 white Nights pans and 5 half pans. I've tested.
What color would you blend with the Caput Mortum? I have that color in watercolor pencils and dont know what to do with it.
I honestly use it a lot on it's own for wildlife. It's so lovely.
I love unboxing videos!
I really loved this, thank you for doing yet another amazing video! I have been loving your skill share classes too. I am so happy I found your channel and classes to help me in my watercolor journey!
Do you get more than one halfpan out of a 5ml Tube?
I am so happy to see you unbox using gloves because I do the same and then sanitize everything 😆
I had a package come like that and had to call because 12 of 16 paints, Qor and Daniel Smith, were missing. That was not a good time as I ordered them for something specific and had to wait even longer to get them.
You killed me with the blue gloves!!! *shiver* scary!
This is amazing! An obscure pigment you should try out is py128 in van gogh's watercolor range.
my fav paint in my white nights set is from the pastel range and its the peach colour, did not know how i would use it but its great for loads of things, tfs
FedEx destroyed my parcel too! They literally stepped on it and did a poor job of taping it up and the box was open when it got to me!! I want to send a picture to you so you can see it!
I’ve had fedex refuse to give my packages to me before so I always choose dhl on jackson’s.
Still waiting for your m graham gouache review 👀 love hauls! This one was satisfying ☺️
It's coming! Been working on it for the past week. More practice is needed before I can give you my informed thoughts :)
i've not heard anyone talk about the granulation of the white nights mine are so granulating i got them 2 christmases ago so maybe the recipe is different
Just and FYI... Jackson's just started selling the Schminke Granulating colors in smaller 5ml sets for around $38.
Oooo that's exciting to know!
Seeing my stickers in another video of yours really just MADE MY DAY! :D Also I love these chill videos, such nice company!
Love your stickers! :D Happy to have them around. Thank you, Ellen!
Your stickers are beautiful Ellen they adorn in several places around my room and palettes
@@mikeyfinger8026 Aww, thank you! :D
I love this. So we’ll done. It’s like a little movie.
Aw thanks so much!
I'm so sorry Desdeny! That's so heartbreaking about the palette and sketchbook. I hope that you're able to make some new memories.
My experience with DHL and FEDEX was just the opposite. FedEx arrived very quickly and in great shape.
Love unboxing videos... Helps make me aware of products... Unfortunately, very dangerous for my pocketbook... LOL
Thanks so much for all of that info, i'm definitely going to keep that in mind when buying more colors💖
This is amazing! Everytime I use watercolors, things get out of hand :D
I had a bad experience with FedEx, they held it up in customs for over a month. DHL has always been great and worth the extra $5
Oof, I'm sorry to hear that!
