@B12 Deficient yeah I understand that argument, but I don’t think that hunting and killing an exotic species is the same as manufactured and farmed animal meat. Cows, pigs, chickens, goats, etc., are not going extinct bc of hunting or the black market trade for these animals. Pangolins, on the other hand, are being massacred and their population is being desecrated bc of these malpractices. Again, I understand where you’re coming from, but it’s really not the same.

The more you repeat ''muh hooman evil'' the less anyone will do anything about this, because it's very easy to just pretend that we're too stupid to fix things, and a lot harder to actually get out there and try to make a change, wallowing in self pity and self hatred does you no credit, nor does it help endangered animals.

Poverty. Poverty drives the hunting of these. As the man said, going into the jungle is dangerous. He would not be doing it if he did not have to. You hear him thank his God several times. He needs this to survive. He doesn't know of another way to survive (and don't go into all the jobs he can do, he is not in the privileged situation to speculate. He is trying to survive). In order to reduce the poaching, reducing the need for people to hunt these vulnerable species, you have to address poverty.
Employing the former hunters to protect the areas they used to hunt in might be a viable solution, but that takes investment from the country.

Remember that wildlife trafficking is not limited to butchering and selling animal parts/meat - animals are likewise sold off alive to be bought as exotic pets. Don't support social media where people keep slow loris, kinkajous, wild cats, rare wild-caught exotic reptiles, etc. They may be cute but they suffer as individuals and as a species when they are taken from their habitat for our enjoyment.

So infuriating. Every single day 10 more primates or other small wildlife pops up on social media and it's sickening. I will never understand looking at a cute monkey and thinking "OMG I totally want to force one to wear a diaper and clothes and sentence them to live in my home." It's disturbing. Not to mention, 99% of the people obtaining them are too stupid to own one. It drives me crazy.

@@whimsical_travesty You're pretty much as wrong as you can be in this situation.
There exists corruption in poorer countries yes, but not more than exists in any other country.
When a 'friendly' (democratic nation) wants to give aid, they don't do it out of the goodness of their hearts, they do it for political gain. They give money to corupt politicians intentially because they know that they'll embezzle the large sum. This keeps the citizens poor and the need for aid coming. What do they gain from giving aid? They gain the support of their local people and it's a great way to get foreign nations to agree to hosting overseas military bases (as well as many other agreements that are far from popular in the country receiving aid). Have you ever wondered why those who give aid don't tend to care what/where/how it's being used?
The few times aid may have good intentions, like from NGOs and the like, they tend to support with material value (think clothing drives, book drives, etc.) But this is the exact kinda stuff that puts local book stores and clothing stores out of business (who would pay for a shirt when they could get them for free?).
It's probably best not to give aid at all, it causes so many economic as well as social issues that further destabilizes countries.
So I'll ask again, where will this money come from if a lot of these nations can't protect their own people, let alone animals?

    • @varnageT
      @varnageT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@F. Friedrich Kling Hauss Africa has more than enough resources to maintain and sustain its population and then some. however Africa along with Latin America, are the 2 continents still reeling from colonisation with the vast majority of African nations being 50 years old or less. This coupled with constant interferences that have been documented by western colonial powers during those 50 years have all but ensured that the majority of Africa will remain poor and down. The biggest pushing force behind all of this is simple capitalistic greed, poor hungry people will sell you their resources for $10 to see tomorrow, while western, and more recently eastern nations then sell those same resources to their own people for thousands.
As a simple non pangolin related point to prove those point of capitalistic value chain, there’s currently a big push to have “slave free”/ “fair trade” chocolate. Most of this chocolate is harvested by poor west Africans for cents to the pound on days of labour intensive work. Only for that same exact chocolate to be sold for $1 a bar for the cheap stuff that’s only 30% cocoa. If you want to to break down the leaders and assassinations that western governments have confirmed they’ve committed across the continent then I very well can. But I will not accept the bs statement a continent 3 times the size of China lacks the resources to maintain itself. That is factually inaccurate.

@F. Friedrich Kling Hauss for you to say africa is in a state of near anarchy while knowing the state the Colombia is in is pretty rich. And understand this isn’t me blaming, this is simple logic and reasoning. If you understand the history of events and the events leading up to the present you can understand the present. Ignoring that and acting like it the past exists in a bubble and doesn’t affect the present is absolutely ludicrous. See there is this notion that Africans blame their problems on others when I’m actuality Africans are informing others of the problems that they are causing. This refusal to accept what Africans are saying is also part of the reason that Africans more and more look towards the Chinese as business partners. If you refuse to look at your history and the impact that other nations policies with your nation had on your people then good on you. But here I will not sit back and listen to someone try to make out that africa put itself in this situation

@F. Friedrich Kling Hauss also your statement that the 2 countries that where the exception actually show you to be prejudiced in your views because even so much as a cursory google of peaceful/ stable African nations would have lead you to countries that where not former apartheid states

@F. Friedrich Kling Hauss prejudiced and racist are two different things, and you hadn’t done anything to lead me to believe you are racist (unless you’re telling me you’re racist right now since you brought it up). Now on to your unvarnished facts, GNP is not a good determining factor on what life is like for the people in a country for instance 2 of the highest GNPs on the planet are CHINA AND INDIA. Now I’m fairly certain if I asked an random Indian person on the street if they felt like they were living in a country with the seventh highest GNP they’d probably say no. Now what I can tell you is despite its relatively high gnp (which is still lower than Nigeria’s) South Africa has been rated as one of the worst nations when it comes to income inequality. Say what you will about a country having a massive amount of money, if that money never reaches the majority of its people then it’s meaningless to them.
The thing about brutal unvarnished truths though is that they’re not pretty and when they relate to people they often come with brutal unvarnished reasons, reasons of which you want to call blaming when in actuality are very valid points. The brutal and unvarnished truth is that most of the migrant crises that are happening globally at the moment are (if not directly then) indirectly caused by the actions of western powers that seeking cheaper labour and resources at the cost of humans. That is the brutal unvarnished truth, you can try to look away from it if you want but that is the truth

@F. Friedrich Kling Hauss look, I’m kinda tired of this conversation but I’ll leave you on this. I’m from Botswana, my country got independence in 1966 at which point we were considered to be a country doomed for failure. Currently we have a gdp per capita (a more accurate measure of what each person gets) of around 8,000usd. That’s not bad for 56 years of independence for a country that should have failed. To put that into perspective and I hate to do this to you, Colombia has a gdp of 6428usd and over 200 years of independence. To use the language you used when referring to Africa and to claim the continent is bloated and over populated is factually incorrect and incongruent with the reality of the very short history of “independent” Africa. Africa is still growing and will continue to grow and as the planets resource hub, we should have more than enough resources to sustain our measly 1.3b people for so long as we’re allowed to self determine.

In the latest edition of the 2020 Chinese Pharmacopoeia (Part One), four varieties, including pangolin, aristolochia, Tianxianteng, and Huanglian Yanggan Pills, have not been included. Among them, on June 5, pangolins were promoted to the national first-level protected wildlife.
