- Welcome to episode 147.

Thank you very much for reviewing our game and being so kind about it, that was ace! 😃
Oh, I love those photo re-creations, Paul! Captures the spirit of vintage nostalgia so well.
Morning feast of Speccy Goodness :) thank you Paul
I had a VideoFace (Romantic Robot version) and could definitely save screens on it 👍
I have the romantic robots version too. Bought it in the early 1990's. I seem to remember a quite large portion of the software that came with it was in basic and I rewrote some of it to create a nicer UI. I wonder if I still have that on a tape somewhere?
I really liked mine. I used some images from it in some games I made
I also had one, I think it's in storage and I promised it to Paul when I found it, but apparently I was too slow!
Data-Skip also had a (tiny) store selling everything Sinclair related when few other places in the Netherlands did. I bought my 128K toast rack from them, as well as the Cheetah midi keyboard, a Multiface, the Spec Drum, the DK Tronics Light Pen and the AMX mouse, and more that I'm probably forgetting. Good times.
15:37 Nice Red Dwarf reference!
My friends from Hilow (developers of DataDrives (a high speed, menu driven cassette drive controlled by the computer), Barba Negra (snapshot, debugger and graphics viewer interface), Eprom cards and modems (all for the Speccy) and Iron Byte (programmers of Freddy Hardest in South Manhattan (Guardian Angel), Buggy Ranger, Narco Police and Mega Phoenix (PC version), and myself had the Videoface running along a computerized (PC) astrological chart (programmed by one of them) in a stand at a posh Video Fair in 1986-87 held at a Casino Hotel in Montevideo, Uruguay. We took pics of people willing to pay to have their face digitized and printed... I don't recall the saved screens being of inferior quality to the "live" ones, it worked fine digitizing from video cameras or VHS recordings...
Thanks again, Paul! Love these shows. :)
Inject this into my spinal column and refer to me only as Mr Clive Eubank Sinclair. LETS GOOOOOO. RIP.
Good show paul and Goeff , I'm 100% sure there was another gadget , where you could digitise your self in pixel form .I know because I had one back in 1987 .but to save was one picture at a time . Slow process getting that to run lol you should have come over to the Retro Robbins area you would have loved while I had to show off , still I have some more interesting projects for you to have a butcher's at next year🎉
I wasn't able to get to Coventry from London early enough to catch you at Crash 2024. I might try and stay the night before next time
having spaffed every penny i earned from a paper round on my 48k the ONLY game i had for weeks was scrabble and it was bloody hard !!!
Nice to see a face to the voice!
17:45 SD-card loader (or USB thumb drive), HDMI, AY-sound chip, joystick interface that can do Kempston, cursor, Interface 2 and Extended colours by means of ULAplus... Sounds like you might want a The Spectrum instead!
Yes I agree, this came out of nowhere, and man, it looks great, and has loading & saving onto MicroSD card, by way of a dongle.
Imagine if this came out, back in the day.
I would have been a happy boy.
I recreated the roll of paper with the graph and listing from the ZX Printer box.

Trio!! I want my Trio and I want it now!
Great to wake up to a bit of Speccy goodness. I had wondered if you would be looking at The Spectrum from Retrogames but I assume that will be upcoming.
Yep. Next episode.
Avenger is a GEM for Speccy.
And Chaos y awesome.
Brilliant both!
Chaos is the only zx spectrum game I still play regularly. Get your friends round, get a takeaway in and play Chaos! The perfect night in :-)
Thanks Paul for another great show. I wonder if there are any Z80 gurus out there that could reverse engineer the digitiser and write some new software for it? Some people like a challenge. Steve
I've got the Rombo Vidi-ZX. Neat bit of kit, but also of no real use.
The saved pictures look awful. LOL.
I own the digitiser that bob had. He used it to make the rampage loading screen
In a world with DivMMCs and effectively near unlimited fast storage it does make me wonder if you could make a FMV game on the Speccy. Or maybe a more direct port of Dragons Lair at least?
Was hoping you'd get to do a review and hear your thoughts on "The new Spectrum", next episode maybe?
Put the kettle on, load Scrabble and watch an intelligent, entertaining game of computer vs computer!
Hah! I recognise that Smash advert.
I was expecting something on The Spectrum. Didn’t you get a review copy? What do you reckon?
No review machine! I have one and review coming in next episode.
Thank you
You don't seem to be aware (because you didn't mention it) that the Way of the Tiger game is an adaptation of a popular (back then) series of gamebooks.,
Is it possible the screen grab doesnt work because Caps Lock is enabled? Sqij does something similar from memory?
So does Pi-balled
What’s your thoughts on the new Spectrum Retro? Are you going to be reviewing it?
Trio!!!!
Beat me to it 😂 TRRRIIIIIOOOOOOOO!!!
I’ve been trying to get in touch with you for a long time about collaborating on a future video. But so far I have proved unsuccessful.
I'm just wondering if that is Marian Gold from alphaville on the videoface box
I thought it looked like the singer from The Blow Monkeys (Digging Your Scene)
@@piero_75 yep you could be right, thanks, that was going to bug me for a while!!
@@BornIn68 Goodness knows what he is doing on that box though!
I know you don't normally take requests but I'd like to hear your thoughts on Dynamite Dan II in a future episode 👍
I think that and first one, are some of the hardest Spectrum games ever made.
Superb as always, thank you! - Could you please do a feature on KWYLL, the upcoming new Spectrum game creator that's in development? it is amazing!
Really tell me more?
I would love to create games, but are to thick to understand how to.
When i saw this, I was hoping for the 'THE SPECTRUM' review, Have you got one, are you doing a review ..?
Yes, I collected it today, so no time to review. Prefer to give my money to independent shops, and Lees Games in Morecambe reserved me one. Sadly this is the earliest I could collect. Review hopefully in the next episode.
@@BuckingTheTrend2008 Hurrah..!!
Have you seen the new Donkey Kong game for 48k?
I dunno why neither of you look like how I imagined from your voices?
… I thought sure the Jeff would be a long haired jim Bagley type..
