    I watched the doco "Is This ADHD" today here in NZ on Channel 4 On Demand (E4)!! I self-diagnosed recently aged 70. If ppl can't afford to go Private OR don't want to wait 2 years for an Official diagnosis, then at the very least take the online test. Self-diagnosis is effective if you answer honestly. If the result is Positive then begin to learn coping strategies and minimise the negative impact on yourself and your loved ones...

    Good documentary apart from the glaring problem with the 'discovery' part where he 'tries the medicine' for one day. That was almost misleading. Even though every professional made it clear to him what the condition was, he almost selfishly decided no to drugs after one day. You need weeks and weeks of trial and error until you get used to what works for you and then it just gets better from there, the more you know about the condition and how to manage it. In other words, he was either too scared to find out how the drugs could improve his life or just too distracted and decided he had had enough fun with this project-- typical of this condition btw if you missed it. Getting the diagnosis is the first step, that's the easy part, the difficult part is getting the help to go from there, it doesn't have to be pills but it sure does make it much easier.

    • @BlackWolfCosplay
      @BlackWolfCosplay ปีที่แล้ว

      Right? I found the doc really interesting... up until the part about medication! One day, and one tablet? Is not "trying" meds and finding they don't work for you, a lot of them need to either build up in your system or at least allow your body enough time to adjust and get over the negative effects 🙄 day 3 of trying the lowest dose of concerta I couldn't move, I felt so listless and unmotivated, after 7 days no bad side effects at all (unfortunately didn't notice enough of a benefit after giving it a few months). I know the impatience to just want to find something quickly and cba to wait but unfortunately that's the way it is!

    • @BlackWolfCosplay
      @BlackWolfCosplay ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a spectrum, so he may have just some aspects but not everything :) it's like how two people with ADHD can have completely different experiences with it. Some people with ADHD hate driving because they can't focus on it which is dangerous, I find the things I get distracted by when I drive are things like traffic lights, pedestrians, road signs, other cars, bikes etc. So all the things you need to be aware of which works really well. I think that's why it can be so hard to diagnose sometimes

    ADHD has become a joke. Every person and their dog claims to have it these days. Even my mate who is a GP said so, you can ‘diagnose’ it right away. It’s just feeding into the victim mentality everyone loves to have these days.

    • @eleseclarke6038
      @eleseclarke6038 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's actually a long process to get a diagnosis and there are long waiting lists I got diagnosed with Autism at 30years old it was a lengthy process being neurodiverse doesn't make you a victim

    • @madams989
      @madams989 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@eleseclarke6038 nope, you can diagnosed medically by filling out a quick questionnaire. If there’s a ‘long list’ then you are only proving my point. If everyone has a ‘condition’, then does that condition exist at all?

    • @eleseclarke6038
      @eleseclarke6038 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @madams989 not in my experience it took a long time I had to go through an evaluation with trained medical professionals also its not just filling in an questionnaire and not everyone is neurodiverse

    • @morrello2801
      @morrello2801 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@madams989 not all people are neurodiverse, and not all neurodiverse people have the same conditions, and not all people with the same condition have the same set of struggles. Getting diagnosed with a condition is valid and unique to each person and can really help them deal with their struggles more.

      Kinda, until diagnosis most people don’t acknowledge a lot of the symptoms. It’s only once you get diagnosed that you properly learn about yourself and ADHD

    • @deanslife1
      @deanslife1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SleepyJord I had the diagnosis but I knew years before it, I googled why do i keep losing jobs came across a reddit post and people were saying to the poster it sounds like you have ADHD, once I googled what that was and read up the symptoms and it all more i 100% knew I had it, the diagnosis was a just a formality, I know myself so someone else telling me didn't make any difference when you have so many of the symptoms
