The mic in the S22 Ultra is incredible. So clean sounding compared to the Iphone which you can hear a lot of wind and background noise from. I think the mic quality of the new samsung phone is what impresses me most in this video.
The camera on the iPhone 13 looks better in the video but the photos on the S22 look so much cleaner and more detailed. As an apple fanboy I have to admit that Samsung is better this time. Great comparison as always!
I wish the Samsung can catch up with the iPhone with video, that 13 pro max video is clean AF, maybe the galaxy s23 will catch up in the video department. Software updates are definitely needed. I’m also curious about the difference between SD 8 gen 1 vs exynos on photo differences. The portrait video looked terrible on the s22 here. I’ve seen reviews where it looked better on Samsung (SD version). I owned the s21 ultra then switched to iPhone 13 and I MISS the s21 ultra camera. Let's try to keep in mind that the IPhone 13 PM has alot of updates whereas the S22 Ultra hasn't had all the planned updates its getting for the camera and video so its gonna be unstoppable and incomparable in a month or 2.
Samsung cameras usually get better a month after release (especially the s10 in 2019, the selfie cam was a disaster and stabilisation also got better by a lot)
My galaxy S10 plus just died 1 month ago because the motherboard gave up, i didnt even use it that much, i used my galaxy A3 2016 more intensively then the S10 lol and yet im not still stuck with the A3 after 6 years, still great phone tho and the galaxy S10 plus definitely got better camera software tho
I have the 13 Pro Max right now, came from the S20 ultra, and I just miss the versatility with the cameras on Samsung devices, I'm considering switching back to Samsung.
@@Thetechchap yeah really hope they fix that. Pretty sure not even my note 10+ has that judder. Also night time shots the lights flicker weirdly due to the judder it seems. So far the picture quality I've seen from s22 I'd incredible vut the video has been super disappointing due to the judder
Samsung is improving for me, the images are tighter and the bokeh heffects are far better, because I've compared them to the operators where they're exposed, plus samsung has just appeared, and the software hasn't been updated yet, so it's going to be even better.
This is actually the first phone camera review I've ever watched (and I watch a lot!) at normal speed and didn't skip any bit. Very well made review and kept me engaged. 👌🏾
Wow, the cameras on the S22 Ultra are shockingly amazing! Samsung definitely cleaned up with its AI. Seriously can't wait till I get mine around mid-March.! Personally, I may not like the boosted contrast look in all the shots, although it'll probably look good in most scenarios. Also, I've seen in other videos that the shadows are brought down to increase clarity; something else to consider. I'm just taking mental notes on how I'm gonna be editing photos in post... hah!
If you want a „real“ looking photo iphone is better for that. Samsung blows shadows and brightens everything which often results in a nicer pictures but not more close to real life
I'm kinda leaning on S22 Ultra here. The 13 pro max is dim when it comes to video taking, almost to the point where it has a filter on while the S22 Ultra seems so vibrant. I wonder if samsung is using something processing methods to have theirs so vibrant.
For video on androids there's now an app called Motioncam that enables shooting true RAW video, like actual CinemaDNG. I highly recommend giving it a try
Hey Tom - thanks for this comparison! I have a 13 Pro Max right now and my new S22 Ultra will be here in a other week or so. I'm voting for the Samsung for photos and the iPhone for video... EXCEPT - I dislike the iPhone's audio when you compare the two side by side. Evidently I am too hard to please!
The camera on my iphone 13 pro is really good but I really hate the yellowish tint on both pictures and videos taken by it. I'm going to make the switch to the s22 ultra too.
The cameras are way better in the S22 Ultra. The details, colours, edge detection, contrast, etc. Even the daylight videos looked better. The only area where it was behind was the night video, which is not very relevant. Very impressed.
The video stabilization is also behind the iphone, hopefully they can fix it in an update. I did prefer some shots on the iphone, like the castle, and the video with the ducks, I just thought the colours were nicer (although - maybe they weren't realistic). But overall this isn't such a big deal since you can tweak those kinds of things if you really want to. I also think the s22 has a little bit too much contrast and is a touch too sharp, but the iphone is a bit washed out and too soft... somewhere inbetween the two would be nice. But yeah overall s22 is pretty far ahead when all things considered.
One thing to note. It seems like the S22U tends to lean slightly darker. That means the image can be brightened in post processing and the detail will remain intact. Brighter images tend to lose detail that cannot be recovered in post processing.
@@stillkountin better software, battery life, etc….u name it because like the main comment I too was a scamsung user and their recent phones won’t even last 6 months before going to absolute trash especially the battery but build quality and shaking while taking video among other issues u name it as for their TVs scamsung charges highest price for bottom of the barrel so replaced the QLED with LG C1 and difference felt like ages ahead
I am a mirrorless user (Sony and Lumix). I don't like iPhone 13's output because it is heavily sharpened especially skin tone, and saturation is too much. However, S22's output is sharpened more, and color is exaggerated even more. iPhone 13 Pro is much better.
S22 ultra. I currently own the s21 ultra and my family loves the pictures that I take on my phone and they all use iPhones. The s22 ultra will be my second phone...
I just pre-ordered my S22 ultra. I'm coming from the S10 plus. The only thing I will miss is the ability to expand my memory. Unfortunately, att did not offer the 1 terabyte version, so I had to settle for the 512GB version. I use a lot of memory, and I am hoping I will not run out of storage before my next upgrade. I really wish Samsung would give us the ability to expand the memory in later models. I know, that ship may have sailed already. I may or may not cancel my pre-order. I'm still on the fence about the limited memory. Samsung is out of stock on the 1 terabyte version.
I think that apple have reached the limits of a 12mp sensor and it’s finally starting to show. Can’t wait to see what their processing can do with more pixels to work with.
10:47 - How can you say the S22 brings more detail here? This is not correct. iPhone looks better in terms of detail. Look at your hair! Samsung is applying sharpness to the shot (no the same thing as detail) that is what you see: more sharpness, which tends to mimic the real detail by reinforcing edges, which creates a fake sensation of more detail, but i'ts actually worse!
For video, Apple has a fight but for everything else, The S22 Ultra kills. I just wish the Fold 4 would match the s22 Ultra in terms of camera and would also include a slotted S Pen and expandable memory. 4K display would be insane as well. Would be a day 1 for me no matter the cost
@@alexsmith1207 fold 3 didn't match the s21 ultra camera module so it's possible Samsung doesn't put too much emphasis on the camera because it's a productivity phone not a camera phone
Imagine if Samsung developed their own system software as the already have their own chip. This would be a serious game changer. They can maximize optimization. Rocket up al their phone battery life, performance.
@@asianstud7 You have a very simplified way of seeing it. Samsung phones run Android so are always limited by what Android can do when it comes to camera software. They essentially have to optimise their own software on top of Androids own
@@franklingoodwin you're talking about something else entirely. I said Samsung has so much smartphone market share that it can be worth it for them to have their own OS instead on relying on Android. So that they can better optimize and own and develop the "whole stack" like Apple can with ios. Also, fun fact. Samsung could have bought Android before Google. Unfortunately, looking back , it was a tremendous mistake on Samsungs part to not have bought it. Look it up!
Both have great cameras, but in this comparison, I think the S22 Ultra edges past the iPhone 13 Pro Max in quality and certainly camera features. Apple really needs to step up the camera quality in the next iPhone big time. Their lead in video is getting narrower all the time. I have high hopes for the iPhone 14.
Considering the reviews of the iPhone camera quality when it came out were praising it as leading in most qualities, but now recent phones have overtaken it we should expect apple to take the lead again with their phone this year. It’s still impressive that they still claim the best video quality after all this time.
Great content. As for the 🎤 the s22 ultra sounds much richer and clearer. To me s22 ultra pictures most of the time look more realistic. And don't forget the s22 ultra has the app something res. So you can do pro resolution.
What format were you using for photos? Personally, I would never let the phone decide on the final picture for me, hence shooting in RAW and developing in post. Regarding the exposure issue, that can be corrected by exposing for the hi lights, and pulling the shadows in post. A standard workflow for RAW dlsr captures. Vastly increase the visible dynamic range.
I don’t know how relevant is this camera test before official launch which is in 25 feb, as Samsung said till then they will release an massive software update mostly regarding camera’s.if compares s21 ultra with S22 ultra, s21 ultra looks much brighter on any scenario so definitely s22 will get an massive update on cameras
I like that you picked only one at the end while still saying they're both good at different things. I love Supersaf videos too, but he rarely gives his final choice if there was only one you could have like you've just did 👍 No matter which phone we prefer, we can't be upset by your choice. I've ordered the S22 Ultra as soon as it went on for pre order even before the first review was out and I'm happy to see it's as good as I've expected 😅
The green light or dit next to the camera is to show that the camera is active. It's meant to be a security measure so users have a more safe feeling of not being spied on.
That stabilisation on the S22U in the first minute of the video is so bad. But hopefully will get fixed with the release update. I think a lot of things might get fixed later on, which is a good sign (for example the yellowish colors as well).
It's surprising considering the s21 ultra had better stabilization than the iphone. And apparently the s22 series has 58% better ois. This is probably just due to the early software
I am an iphone user. But here S22 for sure I felt better. I always choose the picture which is social media ready and pleasing to eyes. And the sound quality of s22 while recording blown my mind😧
Thank you v much for this comparison video! I think you were v fair in your assessment and I really appreciated the range of scenarios you featured! 😁 Looking forward to future videos! 😌 I ordered an S22 Ultra in green and now I'm sooo excited!
Still quite early, Samsung phones receive huge camera updates in the first two months and throughout the first year of release. Hope they fix the stabilisation soon and add Expert Raw to S22U
When asking for moving objects I think its more important in lower light situations like indoors. Outside it's bright enough for the camera to choose a higher shutter speed. For me is video recording more important but can't get used to the iPhone. Still grab my S21 in most cases. I really hope Samsung fixes the camera jitter which is mainly due electronic stabilization.
I agree, I think the Samsung camera overall is the more reliable in most use cases. It’s weird but I feel my iPhone 11Pro max took better pictures than my 12Pro max and even my 13Pro max. The pictures seem to be getting more washed out as the go on, the dynamic range also seems to be worse. So often now my backgrounds are blown out. I feel iPhone still wins with video though but the only reason it’s still in my pocket is because of the eco system and work flow on my desk…especially with Universal Control, it’s incredibly useful and streamlined work flow incredibly well!
Something I never see any reviewers mention is the shutter lag on with these cameras. My S21 Ultra would will sometimes take a second after I hit the shutter button before it actually takes a photo which means I’ve missed several photos of my family when trying to capture spontaneous moments. I also noticed my S21 Ultra had a bias towards using a slower shutter speed in order to keep the iso down in low light so often times my images where blurry. I read about many people having the same issue as me with the S21 Ultra, but some people said they didn’t. I also have an iPhone 13 pro and I’ve noticed it has zero shutter lag and will use a higher iso in order to get a faster shutter speed in low light. I would love to know if the S22 has fixed these issues as I would sell my iPhone 13 pro in a heartbeat in order to go back to Android.
@@bobmarley7787 that’s good, but there are plenty of people who do. It’s a known issue that dates back at least to the Galaxy S8. I don’t experience it on my Note 10 or my S8, but it was very noticeable on my s21 ultra. There are also videos on TH-cam that shot it happening on certain Galaxy phones. Samsung has known about the issue for a while as well.

I like the iPhone's videos but they still have the noticeable lens flare, so S22U for me i guess.
S22 ultra is absolutely amazing.
🔥🔥🔥
Just beginning to realise how good the Samsung S22 Ultra really is.
LOL! That intense zooming into the eye ....that's something my friends would do to me. T.T
It took my S20 Ultra about 6 months to peak in camera quality and to have the focus issue fixed.
I guess there is some problem with the software of the s22 because even the s21 ultra does not shake that much in the video.
Fingers crossed for an update
@@Thetechchap yeah really hope they fix that. Pretty sure not even my note 10+ has that judder. Also night time shots the lights flicker weirdly due to the judder it seems. So far the picture quality I've seen from s22 I'd incredible vut the video has been super disappointing due to the judder
Heck, My Galaxy Note 10 does better job then s22 Ultra stabilization. Must be a software issue
@@godofchaoskhorne5043 I got note too...what do you think...should we upgrade? :)
@@Thetechchap Looks like you didnt use the super steady mode, right ?
I'm not gonna lie videos quality on iphone look wonderful...but photography on Samsung looks incredible
Come on Samsung, you just need to nail the Video Quality, hopefully an update could maybe get it close to iPhone's video capabilities.
The first impression here is the noise cancellation on S22utra is awesome. Wow very clear
For me it's like this.
Apple == SDR
Samsung == HDR.
Photos: Samsung
Videos: iPhone's
Wow, the cameras on the S22 Ultra are shockingly amazing! Samsung definitely cleaned up with its AI. Seriously can't wait till I get mine around mid-March.! Personally, I may not like the boosted contrast look in all the shots, although it'll probably look good in most scenarios. Also, I've seen in other videos that the shadows are brought down to increase clarity; something else to consider. I'm just taking mental notes on how I'm gonna be editing photos in post... hah!
Just use the 16bit RAW and dont care much about Samsungs contrast :) Big stepup for photography imo
I can't wait!!
I'm definitely leaning towards the s22 ultra personally. The photos are just more real looking and thats what I want.
If you want a „real“ looking photo iphone is better for that. Samsung blows shadows and brightens everything which often results in a nicer pictures but not more close to real life
@@nickbraendle3708 lmao ur joking rt, iphone looks more artificial than real wdym iphone is real.

Damn camera and mic on that Samsung is so dope. Also the zoom and details. Damn Samsung.
Gotta say that I'm impressed by the microphone of the s22
Hey Tom - thanks for this comparison! I have a 13 Pro Max right now and my new S22 Ultra will be here in a other week or so. I'm voting for the Samsung for photos and the iPhone for video... EXCEPT - I dislike the iPhone's audio when you compare the two side by side. Evidently I am too hard to please!
you are lucky man bro i have oppo a83 XD
The camera on my iphone 13 pro is really good but I really hate the yellowish tint on both pictures and videos taken by it. I'm going to make the switch to the s22 ultra too.
@@Long0214 how is the S22U going to be better when it literally picked up all yellow in this test?
2:14
What color are your jeans? Blue or gray?
One thing to note. It seems like the S22U tends to lean slightly darker. That means the image can be brightened in post processing and the detail will remain intact. Brighter images tend to lose detail that cannot be recovered in post processing.
The microphone quality bests the iPhone hands down. It's so crisp like a nicely baked set of potato chips.
Honestly.. the iPhone is more reliable even though I'm a hard Samsung fan.. hope some software updates will fix it all
Ur capping only in video iphone is better than Samsung
@@stillkountin better software, battery life, etc….u name it because like the main comment I too was a scamsung user and their recent phones won’t even last 6 months before going to absolute trash especially the battery but build quality and shaking while taking video among other issues u name it as for their TVs scamsung charges highest price for bottom of the barrel so replaced the QLED with LG C1 and difference felt like ages ahead

@@saibajinzero iphone better in video nightmode and macro, but its still early in 2022. I think iphone 14 will be the best cameraphone of 2022.
I am a mirrorless user (Sony and Lumix). I don't like iPhone 13's output because it is heavily sharpened especially skin tone, and saturation is too much. However, S22's output is sharpened more, and color is exaggerated even more.
iPhone 13 Pro is much better.
I wonder how many people watch these on screens that don't effectively show the differences
OMG i really love the galaxy S22 sharp image and batter details and what a amazing sound on S22 🤪
S22 ultra. I currently own the s21 ultra and my family loves the pictures that I take on my phone and they all use iPhones. The s22 ultra will be my second phone...
Same. My friends who use Iphone always ask the pics i took from my s21 Ultra
Once you go over the typical storage of a computer or game console, with your phone, it's time to admit you have a problem. Seek help
I think that apple have reached the limits of a 12mp sensor and it’s finally starting to show. Can’t wait to see what their processing can do with more pixels to work with.
Next iPhone will be with 48 megapixels.
Samsung has always had the best microphone quality ❤️

Great comparison. I've been seeing alot of reviewers giving the crown to the iphone without really showing why. It's nice to see a decent comparison.
What’s with the video stuttering/being jittery on the S22? Am I the only one seeing that when he is moving the camera and outdoors?
Yeah i was gonna say that
at last Samsung catch up to iPhone camera quality, maybe catchup is an understatement... they did it better than iPhone this year.
I mean, its clear it’s closer with almost all the factors but Samsung edges them just as Apple edges the video stabilisation.
If only Apple fixed night videos on iphones and not cheap out on glass to have reflections all over the place.
Fold 4 would of course match or be better than the S series considering it has its own unveiling in the fall

They really should they have a lot of the worlds market share to do so if they really wanted to .
@@asianstud7 You have a very simplified way of seeing it. Samsung phones run Android so are always limited by what Android can do when it comes to camera software. They essentially have to optimise their own software on top of Androids own
@@franklingoodwin I think they're saying ditch Android and create their own Samsung OS
@@Bmasta717 They already did, Tizen. It's not as good as Android and isn't on any of their phones or smartwatches
Look it up!
Samsung is officially back in the game again!
Wow, the stabilization on the iPhone 13 Pro is amazing, it looks like it's on a gimbal
Thanks for the video mate, quick question… is there still a camera rattle when you shake the phone? Thanks
Iphone proresRAW
I personally Take more pictures with my phone than I take video so I’m going with s22 ultra💪🏽🔥🔥
I think 99% of us make a lot more pics than videos, the storage would be full very fast otherwise. :)
Audio sound on samsung really good tho😂
Have you had the chance to try the 12-bit HDR on Samsung? As usual, great video.
Fantastic video like always! what a beautiful village you chose to test the cameras! I'd go for the S22.
Thanks for testing moving subjects! I can't believe nobody is doing that.. like not enough people in this world have pets and/or kids.
It still stomped the mud out of the iPhone though, so it doesn't matter
I am an iphone user. But here S22 for sure I felt better. I always choose the picture which is social media ready and pleasing to eyes. And the sound quality of s22 while recording blown my mind😧
Seems like without 1st major update. S22U is holding up pretty well! Looking forward to it
Watching this video makes me crave for an upgrade... from S21 Ultra to S22 Ultra. Samsung is really doing great! Wishing to have one. :)
Thank you v much for this comparison video! I think you were v fair in your assessment and I really appreciated the range of scenarios you featured! 😁 Looking forward to future videos! 😌 I ordered an S22 Ultra in green and now I'm sooo excited!
Samsung’s video is still very jittery. Not at the level as 13 Pro Max but it is improving.
An update will fix it.
Much better colors than iphone. Iphone looks the same and boring since iphone x
@@amankorotania3222 Samsung colors are far from true to life now especially with S22U. For video, the iPhone captures the most accurate colors.
Samsung finally got the win. .. great improvement 👏
At last, heaven and earth difference. Samsung wins.
Galaxy finally got skin tones right. Galaxy all the way. Much more pleasing photos.
The iphone is too warm and yellow. The 22 is more natural and cold. Definite win to the 22
is it just me or the s22 ultra is a little jittery on the video test?
at 0:34 do anyone notice the dynamic range transition 😱 on s22ultra? danggg.. the skies not even blown out
This video left me speechless. Very nice review. Good job!
May I ask how was the battery? Did it also improve compare to S21U?
I agree, I think the Samsung camera overall is the more reliable in most use cases. It’s weird but I feel my iPhone 11Pro max took better pictures than my 12Pro max and even my 13Pro max. The pictures seem to be getting more washed out as the go on, the dynamic range also seems to be worse. So often now my backgrounds are blown out. I feel iPhone still wins with video though but the only reason it’s still in my pocket is because of the eco system and work flow on my desk…especially with Universal Control, it’s incredibly useful and streamlined work flow incredibly well!
Hmm, Tech Chap didn't react 😀
Fantastic review as always. Agree with the S22 Ultra taking this one.
I have no shutter lag whatsoever
@@bobmarley7787 that’s good, but there are plenty of people who do. It’s a known issue that dates back at least to the Galaxy S8. I don’t experience it on my Note 10 or my S8, but it was very noticeable on my s21 ultra. There are also videos on TH-cam that shot it happening on certain Galaxy phones. Samsung has known about the issue for a while as well.
@@Flying4Film false. They are an extreme minority. Vast majority don't have an issue with it at all. By that logic there are tons of videos with iPhone having shutter lag
