This is just UNBELIEVABLE. And I was there thank God one of the never-to-forget moments of life. Larry´s drumming, a joy!! And power!! U2 power!! Patti power! The crowd!
So awesome. I had the great fortune to meet and chat with Bono ages ago when I was 18, this was 1987. (Everything people say about his charm is true. He was unbelievably kind and gracious and we talked for over an hour at a desolate Sag Harbor disco one winter night.) And I asked him what music he loved and he REVERED Patti Smith, particularly "Horses", he told me and recommended to me. Because I was a shallow young person, I thought- oh isn't that kind of ancient 70s stuff? But he was was right, she is brilliant- her book, "Just Kids" is a masterpiece btw-, So it was a kick seeing Bono with HIS idol here- because Bono was a bit of MY idol at the time I met him, he really does adore Patti Smith. He told me to my face 28 years ago, not kidding! It's so cool., this clip. And she's in fine voice. Good stuff.
Well all right then. I've loved Patti Smith forever. Now, forgive me, but I sort of fell off from U2 (after Unforgettable Fire), but this song, this performance is truly powerful. There is obviously big respect between the band and Patti Smith. Well done, one and all.
Look back through U2's career- They've screwed up big time performances with other musicians b/c Bono didn't know the words their songs. Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen all come to mind.
Watch Larry´s attitude and performance on this song, he´s really enjoying and at his best... It looks to me that his preferred music style is something like this song, maybe his "boring" face at some U2 songs is because he could not be at his 100%, as if being in U2 is somehow, limiting his performance
If this is really a benefit show, U2 is of course appearing in a very symphatetic way. But I still cannot understand whey they are so much against sharing their royalties with lesser known colleagues through the time-honoured practise of letting PRS and such organisations keep a percentage of all income to support young talents and non-established initiatives. After all, U2 probably benefited from a keen and diversified music life when they themselves were at the start of their career. U2 fans, please enquire into this...
U2 is a CHRISTIAN band. Most of their songs are, in fact, inspired directly from Biblical scripture, both Old and New Testament. But Bono, The Edge, and Larry should know that to not give Christ any open and public recognition for all the success U2 has enjoyed in the last 35 years is equivalent to denying Jesus Christ being The Lord and Savior of humanity. Bono, this a letter is to you: TELL THE WORLD YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN AND THAT YOU ARE GRATEFUL TO THE LORD CHRIST FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE. The world needs to know that Christ is the only answer to rebuking the evil running rampant like a hungry lion. No song or public speech by any human being will ever change the heart and mind of any hurting man, woman, or child unless that song or speech openly declares that Christ loves all those that come to Him in honesty and humility to be loved and transformed into a CHRISTIAN. Pray for yourself. Pray for the fallen. Pray for the living. And pray as Christ taught us to pray (Matthew 6:9-13). NEVER MENTION THE WORD "islam" AGAIN!!! Shame on you!!! You are the hypocrite told to us in scripture crying "peace, peace, peace". And the final blood shed has not even begun yet...

Such a powerful song. Great performance.
In my opinion this tour is already legendary, playing with Noel Galaher and then Patti Smith ... wow ... epic.
It is so good to see her. I love Patti's guts - her major guts!

Patty is the coolest person in the world and she doesn’t try to be cool
i was lucky enough to be there - a good concert (not great) but this finale was brilliant
I'm impressed Bono let her sing the entire song, save the chorus. Quite gracious. Not Stephen Colbert-like at all.
He has great respect for her, as he should, and let her sing her song. I love them both.

Climb it clown
U2 is a "boys band" type of making money machine
Ugh. Patti Smith. Camera lenses must have been shattering throughout the auditorium. I'd have to triple-bag that AND get well plastered.
2 billionaires trying to act naturally
Patti Smith loses all credibility
Just go away. This is the best arena band ever delivering the most powerful song in the history of rock with its songwriter.
Arena band says it all. I'm still waiting for The Edge to write a decent song
Patti Smith has done this with U2 before you dope. Look back to the 80s, 90s, 00s, and their last tour- She's been a fan for a very long time.
2 GENIUS! PEACE AND LOVE!
so much beautiful!!!!
Amazing.
