    🔥💥Question: How do you store your equipment? Do you have an off season?

    • @tuttt99
      @tuttt99 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I cut a broom handle and hung it from my closet shelf. I use it as rig rack when I am not jumping. It's off the floor and in a climate controlled environment for any extended time.

      I've been told to take the canopy out and stuff it loosely in a pillowcase or inside an old t-shirt. That way the fabric has rest from any potential stress inside the bag

    Hi, Master rigger here. It is perfectly fine to keep your rig packed during an off season, in fact I would recommend it, just ensure you pack your pilot chute in a manner where it is flat. I have seen rigs that have stayed packed for 20 years and they still worked exactly as intended. There is no need for a bunch of extra stuff. In fact, it is just another way for stuff to potentially become damaged. Store your rig at room temperature in a gear bag or in a bin as she shows. If you're worried about the risers, disconnect the 3 ring assembly and massage the webbing on the risers. This is recommended every few months anyways.

      Would you throw silica gel packet or packets in the bin? So it stays dry.

  • @Wawet76
    @Wawet76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I keep my pilot chute out of the pouch even between weekends. My rig have 1700 jumps and the pouch is still good.

    Maybe my baby is spoiled as I would never consider stuffing her in a bin. I am fortunate enough to have a 3 door wardrobe for my diving and skydive gear. My rig has its own section and is hung on a scuba BCD hanger that is very wide with extra padding so not to crease or kink the straps and tubes. Helmet (visor open and sat on a pan stand for air circulation) and logbook on the shelf, case with alti and GoPro on the bottom, jumpsuit hanging. No mice, no spiders no nothing and to be sure, I have one of those moisture collectors. BCD hangers have regulator hose hooks that are ideal for keeping the pilot chute off the floor. A little tip for helmet storage: Store it with a dryer sheet inside, smells great and as fresh as the new jump season.

      @MrUSApatriot01 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, rigger here. You should massage the webbing as well. it is fine to leave it connected, just do what you mentioned every few months and your gear will stay in good condition.

    Thanks for the video! Very useful as usual :)
    I would only add to read the owners manual for each type piece of your equipment.
    There are some differences depending on each brand for each piece.
    I agree on not opening the reserve, since it's designed to be packaged "forever" and repackaged every only 6 months.
    But for the main canopy in my case it's recommended by the manufacture to "Store your parachute unpacked in a cool, dry place in a lightproof container." This is even more relevant for canopies that have harder fabric materials.

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great info. I heard about that for high-performance canopies but it's definitely not the norm for newer skydivers. :P What is your canopy?

    In regards to the pilot chute spring: springs don't wear out under tension, for a spring, it doesn't care if it's under tension or not, they wear out when they're actively compressed and decompressed. It's the movement, not the static state

  • @Dionisio181

    Store it in a bin es ok but never forget that condensation may occur in there, so try to use a cotton bag and get the gear in and then all in the bin to avoid moisture ;D

    Nice video. I have recently bought my own gear. The whole system has 80 jumps on it but the last time it was jumped was 2004. Since then the reserve was not repacked so it's good 15 years since somebody jumped in this gear. Going to bring it to the rigger next month, I am a little nervous what they will find in the reserve container...

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The time limit on a reserve is usually 20 years so you might have some left.

    I created a hanger in my closet much like most DZ’s have out of some simple pipe from Home Depot so my rigs can just chill on the wall in a gear bag
    I also have a bin that I put everything in for traveling by car. I’d like to see a great lockable hard bag that will hold 2 rigs for plane trips so I’d feel safe checking my rigs.

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Again, you want a temperature controlled environment like human comfortable. If there is only a little humidity, by keeping it in the cold you then can freeze certain components.

    • @MrUSApatriot01
      @MrUSApatriot01 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Master rigger here. I would absolutely not recommend storing your gear in temperatures like that. Keep your rig covered and store it at room temperature. The cold can affect the battery life of your AAD.

    i was once told if the gear isn't going to used for 3 months or more to disconnect the RSL and remove the cutaway pad allowing the 3 rings be free rather than have them held in position

    • @mjhenderson0311
      @mjhenderson0311 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can disconnect the 3 ring without removing the actual handle. I prefer this method to avoid causing unnecessary wear to the Velcro that holds the handle in place.

      @mjhenderson0311 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is a late reply, and you have regained your currency. That is a question for your coach or AAFI at that DZ. the specific dive flow should be based off of where you’re at in your solo student progression.
