  • This Film was produced as part of Hastings FLAG (Fisheries Local Action Group) and the Hastings Fishermen's Museum 'Our Fishing Heritage' project and made with co-operation and expertise of the Hastings Fishermen.
Anyone who is a regular visitor will know you can take a pew and watch two films in our gallery while the kids can read books in our young'uns corner. However, because of Covid-19 restrictions, when we open later in July, this will not be an option. So we have made these films available for you to watch with a brew, in the comfort of your own home.

2024 and hope these guys are still going. Hate watching these fishermen get turned over because of not being able to take more fish when other countries are killing our seas and have done for years with 'super trawlers.

Sadly there are not many boats going to sea from Hastings anymore. I used to work on the boats, but had to give it up as I couldnt earn enough to live. I think there are less than 10 working boats down there now. Such a shame.

@@Bandit_Pete Sorry to hear that - the UK fishermen have been let down by all our governments that have or are in power. I stopped fishing over 40 years ago, came back 3 years ago and was shocked of amount of blanks I was having. I now fish only from a 'lure only' boat from Brighton in a chance of a good days fishing - the skipper has Bass size limts for the table of no smaller that 48cm and upper limit of 59cm, obviously abiding with the 2 per person limit, per day. Of course we catch other species, but many returned because their freezers are full so they fish to top-up their freezers and sport. Cod are like unicorns, but do catch the odd one or two. Our fishing fleets will never be the same again and this is upsetting to see, I think there will come a time when it ceases to become viable for many more fisherman to go to sea. Our government will licence more boats from other countries to fish our waters and obliterate our demising stocks. I have fond memories of buying straight from the boats at Hastings.
