You mentioned that the head microphone does not have a realistic sense of space and direction, and that you don't recommend buying microphones that are placed in the shape of a human head. The realistic sense of direction (for example the sound feels like it's coming from the back or above) is due to HRTF. Basically, you have 2 ears, but you are able to perceive the sound coming from various directions thanks to the shape of your ears and head. The sound frequencies get altered when coming from different directions, and your brain interprets those changes, letting you know the source direction of the sound. That is why microphones like this exist, the head is there to simulate the way we hear sound, so that when the sounds reach the microphones inside the fake head, they'll already be altered based on the position of the sound. There are a couple issues though - one is that everyone has different HRTF, so while for someone the sound of the microphone might sound realistic, for someone else it might not sound good because every one has a different ear and head shape. Another thing is that it's not just about the shape, but also the materials of the fake head and ears, since those also influence how they alter the sound frequencies. This particular head microphone you bought might just not be built very well. For example when you talked from the back and front, I couldn't tell the difference. But for example the Neumann ku100 head microphone seems to match my HRTF fairly well, because it sounds realistic to me and I can easily tell the direction the sound is coming from. That would not be possible without the mics being placed in a head shaped enclosure. Just wanted to clarify that.
