@@Rav01508 Rising exports doesn't have much to do with a place being attractive to live in, take Japan, yeah it is clean and has decent exports but its people are sad and overworked! look at Spain, everyone is relaxed, other than the migrant problems, it is a better place to live in compared to Japan.

Quantity or quality? a decade ago, there were 15,000 more in 2014 compared with 2024, but what roles did these foreign workers filled? The added value an English language teacher bring to China in 2014, is less in value in 2024. What would be more telling is the breakdown of the current 22,000 foreign talents in China, how many are professors, researchers etc. As the report goes , what China seems to be getting in 2024 are top tier work visa holders. If increasingly they are getting top foreign human capital , that's a welcome development. More needs to be done, so I bet they will get there as it seems China is more open to foreigners than ever before

Thanks for the news, I'm trying to be up to date now that China-US relations will undergo serious changes. I'm currently trying to major in Data Analytics with a focus on Economics and are learning mandarin as my second foreign language in case I want to work remotely in Asia. As an European I have found the Chinese culture quite fascinating despite (and because of) how different it is from the rest of the world, but since I also deeply appreciate American values, my ideals are a mix of both. If anything, understanding these different mentalities should enrich my perspective and ultimately strengthen my beliefs. Appreciate you and keep making content 👍

While a large population can indeed be a burden if not managed properly, with the right policies in place-focusing on education, healthcare, and skill development-it becomes a powerful asset. India’s struggle to fully leverage its demographic potential serves as a cautionary tale. For China, the focus should be on harnessing the potential of its vast population, turning it into a driving force for sustained economic prosperity, innovation, and global influence. By doing so, China can solidify its position as a dominant global power, ensuring long-term stability and growth.

China only wants highly skilled workers and scientists/professors. To my understanding, the majority of Filipino workers in Hong Kong are doing low-skilled jobs. The main downside for China is the culture and language, most of the talents China wants probably already know English, and immigrating to an English-speaking country will always be preferred over China.

    (1) Foreigners don't want to be quarantined, that is confined to an isolated room. So, to avoid that fate, they head back home, perhaps even spreading the disease back to their home countries.
    (2) Geopolitical tensions between China and the USA. China is competing with the USA in many fields, like technology, and therefore it needs to attract the best domestic and foreign talent.
    (3) It is important to note that China wants highly skilled, educated immigrants. Medium-skilled immigrants are limited. Low-skilled immigrants are unwanted and will be deported. The USA makes it harder for skilled immigrants to enter because they are competition with native skilled workers for the same jobs; meanwhile, low-skilled workers can just smuggle into the country by the boatload.

What China needs to concentrate on is not tech progress per se but how to fix its demographic problems and make its economy sustainable, it doesn't matter how much tech progress you achieve if there is no one to benefit from it, better be a warm humanistic rural feudal society with people on it than a dystopian AI robotic society where just in order to have consumers, IVF is needed due to robots outnumbering people, robots that don't consume, a cold empty place! Those that can sustain a young healthy population base will eventually rule the world, demographics is destiny!

Not sure if this matters, even if true. PRC already has the most STEM educated workforce to draw on, + a growing number of ethnic Chinese in the US emigrating or returning to China due to the growing witch hunt in the US. All as confirmed in the number of research papers + IP patents, etc coming from China.
Also a lot of foreigners in China pre-2019 were of the lower categories, like 'English' teachers. These have all been screened out.

If Beijing can set forth a special citizenship policy where there is a path for friends of china to accept Chinese customs and become Chinese citizens, and allow people to settle permanently as people have done throughout history in the old days of the silk road, while keeping their dual ancestral citizenship ties, so many more workers would stay and build. At the end of the day, hearts will do what hearts do, and if someone is supportive of the just Chinese cause, an american/Brazilian citizenship won't stop them, just as a Chinese citizenship wouldn't stop traitors of China from doing whatever they were going to do.

Why don't you think about things dynamically? Ten years ago, China's automobile industry, mobile phone industry, and chip industry were all foreign-invested, and these industries will inevitably shrink as China's local manufacturing industry upgrades. Uncompetitive companies cannot survive. Do you pay these foreign workers? Not to mention that the United States has led Western countries to decouple from China, prohibiting investment in China, and decoupling chip high-tech companies. This is how the problems caused by the United States became China's question?
