You will NOT regret going down the Skynyrd rabbit hole, 1977 or BEFORE They’re the best.
Being impressed by the crowd at this concert is just proof of how cool your grandparents were back in the day, because all those people you saw going nuts are in their 60's and 70's today
I'm 61 & I was there.
4 guitar army!! Gary, Steve,Alen, Leon!!❤❤
The 70s were the best decade musically and Skynyrd was one of the best in my opinion and definitely my favorite band ever. Keep rolling out those 60s thru 80s rock reactions and I'm here for it. Glad you discovered this. Great reaction young man.
The 70's really was the best decade for music. ✌❤
I remember this.....I am 72 now.....The good ol days
... "back when cool guys squealed their rear tires"?
The best music
The coolest clothes
The sweetest girls
The badist cars
I’m old now but it wouldn’t trade my time for anything
Musically , sorry you folks today , you really have missed the best period in history !!❤
I was 20 in 1977…we sure knew how to have a great time! Hat‘s off to all of us (now a little little older) party animals! Cheers
We didn't believe in sun protection. The girl in yellow shorts had a bad sun burn, which was considered an accomplishment if you could avoid peeling.
Those in the crowd are now your grandparents and great grandparents.
The crowd knew what was coming But even then....🥰
If you were to have a tournament of all rock legends in a fight. Ronny Van Zant would win the whole thing.
Skynyrd played Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama on July 4, 1975. Tickets were $1.99 because it was America’s 199th birthday. They ended the show with Free Bird, Dixie and Sweet Home Alabama. Ronnie didn’t want to quit playing so the city pulled the power on them. Ronnie threatened that if they didn’t turn the power back on, they were going to tear the place down. Good times.
It was a different time back then, so sorely missed by many who grew up then. And yes, they do have the rebel flag on the stage and no one freaked out about it or anything. A different time indeed. Somewhere along the way, the fun and the energy of music like this went away.
AWEEEE
There's nothing that can compare to the music and FANS that were in the 70's .. I'm glad you got to see this! FANS OF ANY GREAT BAND WOULD FOLLOW THEM AROUND IN THE BLAZING HEAT.. RAIN.. COLD.. NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!❤
75,000 at stadium.
Allen Collins absolutely killed it here.
There were 4 people who were playing guitar.
Quite the precise reactor you are, bobbriest434! Very seldom do reactors include Leon Wilkeson, bassist, in the guitar count. He does a stellar job, especially near the end of "FB." He's plucking and fingering those thick bass cables (they're more than strings) cleanly and quickly. Keeps up with the speeding "regular" guitars very well.
Every time I hear this, I think about Ronnie Van Zant who died in a plane crash. This song to this day is the most requested song at concerts.
There's a guy standing behind a speaker cabinet with long hair and sunglasses, that's a 23 year old me. All those guys were very close friends of mine that I truly miss hell out of them. We all had a great time playing music together.
Also the girl in the yellow shorts sitting on the guys shoulders was Susanna Bass, it's so great to see yourself and people you know in videos like this.
Nothing will ever match the 1970’s. Much respect Jim. I was 12 in 77’. We lived the tail end of the golden age. The greatest times of the 20th century. (1960-1986). 🤝🤘✌️
Try Skynyrd “ The Breeze”
it’s great to see you young guys appreciate the classic rock i grew up with 👍
I was 13 Years old in 1977. Freebird is the most requested song. Bands will ask for songs to play and someone will shout out Free biird. Most Bands will just laugh but sometimes a Band will play Freebird!
That's Allen Collins on lead guitar. Ronnie VanZant is the lead singer. The band is Lynyrd Skynyrd from Jacksonville Florida. I'm from the same side of town their from.
That's so cool. Born in the 2000s and just getting to hear some of this amazing stuff. Great reaction. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hendrix, Zepplin, the British Invasion, Yes ....... on and on.
I've watched many reaction videos to this, and one thing we who lived in the time of this, for me, I wasn't there, but I was 19 in 1977, and people don't know how to live IN the moment anymore. Cell phones everywhere, people so busy recording everything, they don't really see it or hear it in the moment.
Im 63 young man so grew up and seen the best Rock and Roll artist there will EVER! be (including LS)....todays Rock is a flat out joke (dont listen to it, its garbage!)...i wouldnt turn my age back for nothing, not just the music but the way of life.....i have a list a mile long but for example there was no bullying cause people had EVERYBODYS! back...if you didnt want to smoke pot or do drugs your friends respected it and remained your friends...we were not snowflakes being offended by the littlest shit....i feel sorry for the young people of today cause they will never know what America used to be like...all i can say is good luck, smh - GREAT REACTION :)
..."Class of 76"...Don't ever stop going down this Rabbit Hole...we who were in that generation believe the guitar riff at the end never ended and is still playing...
I’m class of 76 too! 🤘
Such a loss. I was supposed to see them shortly after they died. Was so bummed. Gonna see them in September (they’re still awesome)…
Check out the studio version as well. These guys did not miss...song after song! ✌❤
You dont get any better this! You did a very good job! 😊❤
This concert was just a little over 3 months before the tragic plane crash that killed the lead singer Ronnie Van Zant , guitarist Steve Gains backup singer Cassie Gaines and the road manager Dean Kilpatrick on October 20th 1977 and just a few months ago we lost the last original member Gary Rossington . They are still going with Ronnie’s little brother Johnny singing but this is their last year touring
I believe this was a Day on the Green! ❤✌️
In my backyard.
Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash in 1977. My favorite songs are "Simple Man", "Free Bird" & "Sweet Home Alabama". They had lots of great songs such as "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Saturday Night Special" etc.
I miss long hair on guys.
Good reaction big dawg! Love seeing how into you were, which is what happened to me when I first heard it back in the day.
I remember the day Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashed 3 months after this. It was all over the news on tv. Tragic.
At the time, I don't think I was aware that some of them survived.
Anyway, yes, they "went in" on this concert. Phenomenal!
I was not even a teen yet in 1977.
This was my first of 12 "Day On The Green" concerts. It helped that I went to HS in Marin & my ship's home port was Alameda.
... Hey Kid... all those hot looking chicks with the halter tops are my age... pushing 70 now..
Nice job, young man…
THANK YOU !
Another good song of there's Sweet Home Alabama.
This may be the greatest live performance in all of history.
This is great, but I like the Knebworth performance better.
Nope... this is it!!!@@christinemcmillen9020
Real musicians ❤😊
Congratulations!🎉
Hey 👋
We used to listen to them before they were called Lynyrdskynyrd. They grew up in my neighborhood in Jacksonville, GA. There were a dozen other garage bands like them. We'd visit all of them depending on if we liked them a lot. They became so popular, someone offered them a horse barn and field where they could accommodate the bigger crowds coming to hear them. Very sad they didn't live longer. All free, of course. They didn't charge anybody money to hear them in those days.
I’m born and raised in Alabama and unfortunately, I can tell you now they are not from no BS Georgia. They are from North Florida on the Bama line so wonder where you’re tryin come from son???
Jacksonville FLORIDA 😊 Not GA. And you grew up there? 😂
This was Southern rock and I'm from the South. I saw them do this at Memorial (football) Stadium in Charlotte, NC on July 13, 1974. It was Under the Stars festival. It featured a lineup of ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rare Earth, Leon Russell, Elvin Bishop, and Billy Preston. That was about 12 hours of my life I would not trade for anything! Things were different then and in many ways a lot more fun. And give me some 70's Molly Hatchet too who I saw many times over the years.
Listen to simple man same band
Oakland baseball stadium. Soon to torn down. Oakland is part of greater San Francisco. Used to be able to tolerate the flag of the south.
great reaction! def subscribing! *hopefully it was satire 🤞 but.....* I about died when u finger-counted the months! 🤣🤣🤣 how old are u in this reaction?
keep on keepin on young'n! this era of music is timeless! 🤙😎✌️
Chicks were hot back then, so much fun to be with. Check out their song Gimme Back My Bullets and the song That Smell 🙂.
This was my teenage years
I was there! Amazing concert the 60s and 70s were dominated by the guitar!
you should listen to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
I reacted to that !!
2:57 Bless his heart--Kinda looks like he forgot to do his laundry and had to raid his little sister's closet. ~LOL~
7:58 The girl in the yellow appears to have been pranked by her friends into thinking they were going to see Barry Manilow. Man--I'd have been jumping all over the place.
She’s just an introvert that’s all.
You had to count to see what was the 7th month. Hilarious!!
Young man if you like this you should check out another great guitarist his name is Stevie Ray Vaughan Texas flood live at theEl Macombo
I was there 65000 Outlaws Santana and Peter Frampton also on bill In fact Frampton headlined Crazy
Great reaction bro, respect for the people in the past that gave you what you have today!!! Liberals don't
Screw you
Not the time or the place for political blather. Besides, you're WRONG.
It was Oakland Festival baseball ⚾️ stadium. They weren't even the main headliner.
For me Allen was the best guitar player ever. But they were the best musicians.Ronnie was the right singer for the band.
I love your enthusiasm. You're fun to watch. FYI i have a song for you that's beyond incredible and most Americans never heard it. It is in French, but it's the performance that is captivating as well as INSANE lyrics - get the video with english translation. It is THE saddest song you will ever watch. They guy brings tears to your eyes. Its call Ne Me Quitte Pas (Don't Leave Me) by Jacques Brel. I swear this will be an all-time favorite! Keep up the great work and the love Chase!
That’s your parents rocking back in the 1970s
More like your grandparents!
Grandparents
Also check out their song Saturday Night Special. If you like that look up ZZ Top’s song Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers 🙂, ZZ Top has many great songs too but that’s another 🐇 hole 😊. Lots of great music you have to look forward to.
Please do "THE BALLARD OF CURTIS LOWE" there's no music video.. maybe a lyric video? But that's a cool song telling a story... and its not that long.
The Oakland Coliseum was designed for football games the average house Lynyrd Skynyrd probably all screaming that was just an amazing concert I wish I could have been doing but I guarantee we are just as hard younger generation missed out sorry about that take out of The Breakup Song more of a pain and Demon Break Up Song they killed it
That guy at the end kissing his girl. Guy's, don't be clingy! 😂 cringey. 😂
And she's like, get out, Allen and Steve are playing for me! :)
You'll probably not ever listen to the studio version again!
63.000 people
This is the edited, shortened version.
this song sort of started a guitar war. You should check out The Outlaws- Green Grass and High Tides. It was made to show other guitar players can match or surpass Skynyrd.
As great as that was, nothing could ever match this.
Allen Collins absolutely killed it here.
This is a great band but the song has been overplayed. True story: the Drive by Truckers, who are probably the most Skynyrd-loving southern rock band on tour today, hate this song because it has been done to death. They were doing a wedding ca 1989 (when they were Adam's House Cat in Florence, AL) and a drunk redneck kept yelling at them to play "Free Bird." Patterson Hood took a paper airplane someone had made, lit it with his cigarette lighter, and threw it at the guy, saying "there's your f***ing Free Bird" and started playing Sweet Home Alabama instead.
On that score, if you like this you should try the Drive By Truckers. "Southern Thing," "We Ain't Never Gonna Change," whole lotta hits.
