    Hi Guys, do you think Pulsar will release any binolculars with figures comprable to the new Telos? The

      If you plan to be out in bad weather (rain, snow, fog, high humidity) a lot, then you should worry about NETD but if day-to-day is more likely to be fair weather don't stress about it.
      In good / normal conditions I'm not sure I would be able to tell the thermal image quality apart.. and personally prefer looking through two eye pieces.

      @thomasjacksltd Thanks ever so much for the reply. Lastly, do you think the extra £1200 is worth it over the XP mergers?

      You wont be disappointed with either of these but ideally test the XP and XL side-by-side for yourself. If you're in the UK, anywhere near Stratford on Avon, you can make an appointment to see them in the Thomas Jacks showroom, or check out the exhibitions we're attending here: linktr.ee/thomasjacksltd.
      BTW have you seen our Merger XP video?: th-cam.com/video/l6_pFqxBNS0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XNJi5NaJTWhr6sTi

      You wouldn't see a bird that size with any commercially available thermal device.
      The best available thermals (like the Pulsar Merger XL50s) will 'detect' a 2m tall warm object (such as a person or a deer) 2300m away. But 'detecting' in thermal terms means it's picked out by at least two sensing pixels, so you also get a sense of it by it's shape and movement.
      Watch this to see how we found a completely concealed 15cm kingfisher at about 25m). th-cam.com/video/v_DTaPtWor8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qRIO_Lmbo__OAQ9h

    Seems a bit of a fail that it only has 16GB recording. The price of micro SD is very low. For the huge retail cost of these binoculars I would expect 256G.

      Having taken these out on a few occasions specifically for filming (and recording a lot) I've never run out of space.
      It's easy to download everything to a computer and you can set videos to record in compressed mode, so you can increase the storage capacity. Like you I did wonder if 16GB would be sufficient and I'm pleased to report it is.

      @@thomasjacksltd Yes I guess you are not really needing to record hours of footage with these. Thanks for the info.

      Just doubled checked for you and the Merger LRF XL50 has 64GB of internal memory!

      @@thomasjacksltd That definitely sounds like a good improvement. Thanks for checking.
      I will need to save for some time before buying these beauties.

    What would you say is the major difference between the Merger XP50 and XL50? Is the higher resolution of the XL50 most noticable when you zoom in compared to the XP50? Is there a major upgrade in the image when not zoomed in?

    • @thomasjacksltd
      @thomasjacksltd  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't taken both out together but I'd say the XL's were superior both zoomed out and zoomed in. More pixels, more tightly packed in means better image quality. The XL's at night were clearer than daylight.
      The exception, where the XP's theoretically will come out on top would be in poor weather (rain, snow, fog, mist, high humidity). Here the XP's bigger pixels should capture more information to give you a better image.

      @@thomasjacksltd thanks for the reply! Hopefully there will be a video comparing the two in the near future. Keep up the good work!

      @@thomasjacksltd So that's basically a difference between NETD < 25 and NETD < 40... I live in TN which is very humid in summer (~90). Would you recommend the XP for me? I'm planning to use the binoculars in dusk to spot owls. Thanks!

    • @thomasjacksltd
      @thomasjacksltd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For high humidity, the larger pixels (17 µm) in the Merger XP should do a great job of capturing a heat source and spotting your owls. But if you do get a chance to compare the XP and XL's for yourself (at a retailer or outdoor event) I'd recommend that.

    Great review. I’ve been trying to find video evidence it can see things through the fauna. My worry was buying it to find owls and not being able to see through the trees and needing a line of sight .

    • @thomasjacksltd
      @thomasjacksltd  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Animals and birds on the edge of a treeline / not completely hidden by fauna will show up. The thermal device is allowing you to see through the gaps in the leaves / branches, so smaller pixels (they're 12 µm in this Merger) should allow you to see through smaller gaps.
      The other benefit of these Merger XL's is the sheer size of the sensor (1024x768 pixels) which can zoom in closer to the action to give you a better idea of what you're looking at.

      @@thomasjacksltd got it! So they have to be within ‘sight line’ even if I can’t see them. The less disturbance I can make trying to find wildlife the better and these definitely seem like the best way forward. Appreciate your reply . 🙏

      Have you've seen this - filmed a while ago but it's a good comparison for bird spotters to show the difference between some of Pulsars most popular thermals: whatth-cam.com/video/AlLWDUD_HmU/w-d-xo.html
