Overview of pricking irons from Sinabroks and how pricking irons work. Use pricking irons to prepare the holes for hand stitching leather techniques like saddle stitching leather.
Pricking irons cut slits or pricks through the leather. The different options are based on the shape and direction of the cuts, which determines the length and direction of the stitches.
You can choose the distance between the teeth depending on how tight or wide you want the stitches to be. You can also choose how many teeth you want depending on the application and scale of your project.
Leather workers use pricking irons when making leather belts, leather wallets, leather handbags, leather dog collars, leather garments, and many other handmade leather goods.
Made in South Korea, Sinabroks pricking irons are top-of-the-line tools due to their fine materials and craftsmanship. They all have hand-polished teeth for precision cuts and smooth entry and exit. We recommend using vinyl pricking pads to protect the teeth instead of a standard cutting board.

Correct me if wrong, but from my understanding pricking irons aren't meant to punch holes in leather at all, where chisels are? Pricking irons just mark the spot for your awl to go through?

      That is correct.

@@krumdub the video isn’t “wrong”: pricking irons can be used to put holes in light leathers, but their main purpose is to mark the location to pierce the leather with your awl.

@@tinstar599 ah ok, thankyou for clarifying. I swear, when it comes to leatherworking I am most confused about pricking irons vs chisels and how people use the words interchangeably and use the tools interchangeably as well

Re: placement of iron on leather, can you please elaborate on "next to the edge"?
,Are we supposed to be between marking line and edge of leather, on the marking line or below marking line
    Thanks

Thanks for asking! We would recommend measuring and marking the distance when working on a finished product. You can use a straight edge and scratch tool for this, or a scratch compass can work too: www.buckleguy.com/34-scratch-compass-and-replacement-scratchers/

if i wanted to punch the holes in each piece of leather before i stitch it together, i would need the the normal ones and the inverse for the other side?

The inverse irons are more for providing a different stitch style. If you use the regular irons to punch all the way through the leather you would not have to punch on both sides.
