The presentation of the tabua is just the as our Samoan culture. When the husband passed away the lady's family come with a special fine mata, we call it "ie tonga" ie ole aamiiga, this fine mat will be present as the token of forgiveness, of whatever mistake she had done during her stay with her husband. * but people or families had now looked at both side if they had children, then it's the husband's family to return the fine mat, and tell her tribe/family, she will stay within her children's in her husband's family/ tribe. It's our culture just in case the husband's family don't appreciate her. The other say we say, ua mutia le ala, which means the connection between the husband and wife is connected or bridge as one family because of their children's. Vinaka Ura thanks for the vblog
The exchanging of the whalebone is like with fine mats in the Samoan culture. It’s for officially asking the husband’s family for forgiveness of any wrongdoing she may have done. Another for last farewell and ending their marriage bond with death. It is why fine mats are a big part of the Samoan custom and tradition. 💯💯💯💯💯
When they say "It takes a village to raise a kid" this is what they mean. Whole village working in harmony. The village will raise you and also bury you when the time comes. Wananavu Viti. Vinaka Yanu na nomu varaitaka tu na noda varau na kawa i taukei vei vuravura taucoko.
Isaaaaa the reality of life - our maritime villages encounter and decisions made in respect of the beloved ones who have passed away. Thank you all, Turaga Naitas and Marama Naitas for sharing your story with us. 👏👏🤝🤝🥰🥰

Indeed it's still an issue with a busted mortuary or no mortuary where the person who dies gets buried the same day in the maritime areas. Daily struggles but just another day like normal. 😊
